Private servers for previous MMO versions/shuttered games
« on: April 26, 2016, 09:46:02 PM »
There are reversed engineered servers for a lot of old games. They have various levels of quality but most are worth checking out.

SWG http://www.swgemu.com/   http://swgawakening.com/
WAR: Age of Reckoning http://www.returnofreckoning.com/
WoW: Vanilla  http://www.kronos-wow.com/
WoW: Burning Crusade https://www.vengeancewow.com/

Been thinking about warhammer recently and I think they made a mistake in having the campaign across the 4 tiers as when subs fell they could not get enough ppl into all tiers.

They should have had battlegrounds in the first 3 tiers and the world pvp in the forth.

I loved tier1 bg's they were really good fun they should have released a limited client just for tier1 and I would have been happy free ofc.

that's just my ramblings.

But you're one serious cease and desist letter away from the private server being shut down like https://en.nostalrius.org/. And losing everything "instantly". Admittedly there's always the risk of a dev pulling the plug on a game and official servers, but most of the time you can see that coming by constant server merges and overall dropping player base.

Should have just had T3 as the final tier, it was epic. Bgs were fun too, but the keep holing in T3 was stunning.

As for private servers, I played on Nost PVE for a while, that was very well done. Very much the vanilla experience I fell in love way back, community was pretty good too.  Will be interesting to see what comes of them and Blizz having a sit down, hopefully they'll help blizz understand pristine servers shouldnt be an option as its not what vanilla fanboys such as me want from a game ;)

(Wont play on kronos or other private wow servers, mostly as they all rock the pvp, and if I want good, interesting meaningful pvp I'll log into EVE :D)

Continuing this topic, if anyone has any screenshots from the Vanilla WoW days, could you upload them somewhere and PM/post me a link.

This is to assist this project http://forums.crestfall-gaming.com/

Thanks.

Thanks, anything could be of value. Vanilla information can be troublesome because they dumped on the IP with Cataclysm so looking at retail is no use for a lot of stuff.

Yes, I will be helping them soon I think. I'm a programmer by profession and because they have reworked their scripting engine a lot of quests need to be reworked. This effort has been about to start anytime soon for a couple of months now  ;)

Edit: Merry Christmas !

I know right.  I'll still dabble with Pservers but will follow Blizzard and see if they get it "right". Kinda hope its classic+ (some of those QoL changes from over the years are nice. Just no damn x-server stuff and I'll be happy. Or faceroll nonsense), but i'll accept straight up vanilla, warts and all.

The optimist in me says Summer / Autumn 2018. They developed WoW over a four year period, it shouldn't take two years to republish a finished product.

I don't think that they understand at Blizzard that they are the cause of the decline of WoW and blame outside forces, the same mentality can't understand why anyone would play Classic again. They probably view Classic servers as an expensive PR stunt and will push it out of the door with some lipstick on the pig and will be blown away by the response.

Putting it out when everyone has the arse with Legion would make sense, and it looks like everyone has the arse with Legion now.

Aside: Good to see TotalBiscuit looking so healthy. I had assumed he was dead.
