Does the CO website always run horrifically slow after a beta phase?

Posted this over on the CO beta forums, so C&Ping it here:

Ok, got a good couple of hours in, so heres my thoughts on the game so far. Just want to say that I recently started playing CoH too, so I have high hopes for this game.

Firstly, the Pro's:

Character creator is awesome. Actually managed to get the two heroes I created to look better than their CoH counterparts. Lots of options, but not too overwhelming. Thought there may be a few more, but adding capes/wings/back slot stuff from the get go makes up for all that

Combat is fast and fun, even with the perceived dullness of spamming an endurance builder. I chose Force for my first powerset, and really enjoyed the fwoomphyness of it. Love how you can run around while spamming Force Bolt.

Controls are good. Started with keyboard and mouse, which is run-of-the-mill mmo stuff tbh. Then switched over to a 360 pad, and was pleasantly suprised how much more fluid combat seemed to become. I kept switching back and forth between K+M and pad over the 2 or so hours I played, and found myself leaning toward the pad. Only gripe with it is the tool tips that pop up don't correspond to the actual buttons, but I expected that with the lack of pad support.

Died a few times, but overall didn't find the experience too taxing or to simple, so thats good. Enjoyed some of the humour of the missions (Furley anyone?) and also though the voice acting was very cool for some of the parts of the tut and later Canada. I got my main to level 9 with no real effort, and tbh, I didn't even watch the XP bar, so every ding was a suprise, which was always good. Also, performance was ok for me, despite it being a Wednesday patch.

Ok, now the con's:

My biggest, and probably only gripe with the game so far, is the instancing. Having to be asked to choose an instance everytime I zone started to niggle me, and I see this getting even more annoying as I continue to play. Now, I appreciate that this is required for having one server, but I feel it destroys immersion to a degree (lord, can't believe I just said that!), and I can't help but wonder how this will effect the community in terms of hanging around and chatting with other players, as mmo players are wont to do (Atlas Park, Org/IF/Dal etc). Also, how will I know where to find my bro's toon (who is also in the beta) or some of my guildies? Make sure we synch our instances over vent?

The only other annoying thing was the character creation screen popping back to the previous step whenever you make a change, but I'm sure that bug will get squashed soon enough.

So, basically, I suffered no bugs while playing, had a thoroughly enjoyable time (apart from the above con), and will more than likely be buying a lifetime sub in the near future.

Hope some of the above helps

Eve doesnt do that.

Tabula Fail did that and thats one of the reasons it failed :(

Exchange rates suggest i'll life time this - fire and forget style of MMO payment, even if my play waxes and wanes really often, it has spandex.  But FUUUU amazon.

Its not massively game breaking, and I think the other aspects of the game overshadow it, but it does niggle me. Still play it on release though I think.

Im very used to one server, no instancing stuff - what can I say EVE has me spoiled.  As you say the pro's outweigh it, but it will always be there at the back of my mind, however the only thing i let put me off games are their official forums - if I can avoid them, Im all set.

Tbh, the CO forums are full of whiney beta vets, so its best to avoid them. Even so, the 3 or so hours I spent with it today, got me hooked. This'll be my gaming bread and butter till TOR hits for sure.

I'm not quite as convinces as Kurtt yet. Then again, superhero-games have never been quite my cup of tea, and in any case Champions has not bored me yet after 3 hours of playing, like COH.

Also, the character creation was awesome. No surprise there - it already was in COH. Still, being able to pretty much create whatever you cooked up in your little twisted brain without feeling you had to make too many concessions is very nice! The ability to create your own Nemesis to battle the rest of your career against is also cool. So, as a storytelling game, I'll have to give it high marks.
And ok, I admit, it was fun enough that I fired up photoshop, searched the web for fonts that resembled the ones used in the CO sigs, and wasted a few hours making my own. That has to count for something! ;)

Still, I'm not convinced. My main concerns are these:
1) I haven't seen a lot of innovative gameplay. Ok, ok, I've barely finished the tutorial, but most of the quests seemed the generic kill this, gather a couple drops, bring item X to the park at the other side of town, kill 50 wolves - ah no. That last one was LotRO. :P
2) From what I heard most stuff is can be solo'd. On the beta forums they're basically saying that "you can do whatever you want, but if you don't min/max you won't be able to solo 5-man content". Wtf? So why did they make it a MMO at all? (Probably so you can show your wonderfully original superhero to the world, I'm guessing...)
3) Garry managed to get his toon at 35 within a few months time, playing around 10 hours a week at most (because they shut the beta server down a lot) for perhaps 2-3 months. The game has a total of 50 levels.
They better hurry up with providing endgame content at this rate!

I thought the look of the game was cool by the way. It took some getting used to, but it surely complemented it by providing a very cartoony look. One strange thing - it seemingly caused me to get a slight notion of motion sickness, something I very rarely used to have when playing first/third-player computer games, but haven't had since before wow's first expansion. Funny, experiencing that again as MMO-veteran. ;)

Is there a "good" and "bad" o the characters, ie factions? or is it more of a heroes versus each other style thing, so alignment doesnt really matter?

None yet, and the pvp is done in an Olympic games style.

I'm sure Villains Online is on the horizon though.

This was a sinister trick to lure me to the site, wasnt it?
Now I think the game is shiny too!  :-X
