fountain defense participation
« on: June 18, 2009, 11:02:08 AM »
There is some annoyance about the general participation in defense fleets from the leadership in EZ, I can understand that to be honest. I've been trying to show up lately, usually I'm way to late.

Anyway I floated an idea on the EZ forums about it.

Other ideas how to get participation up to get at least our sov "safe".

(and btw const, they dont require armour RR ;) )

I just don't like the way MD and some others try to get participation up. The stick just won't work in a game, try carrot :)

I think almost everyone can give 2h a week to a defence fleet and many would probably do it a lot more.

For example (trying to expand my thinking to make it clear):
We need most defense between about 16 and 22 eve time (prime in europe and beginning of prime in the US) since we are euro heavy we have most people about at those times.
Lets divide that into 2h slots, 3 slots per day, 7 days a week so in total 21 slots.
We would probably need around 10 people to make a fleet that can work as a deterrent towards roaming reds so in total 210 slots in each week.
We have 600 characters in the alliance, lets say most have one alt so 300 players and then if everyone has to help out 2h a week that would mean we can fill 300 slots even :)

Have no idea if I'm making sense.
But to be honest I think it is a better way than demanding people drop everything they are doing 12 jumps from pnq when some reds appear there. Since if you are lets say ratting it takes some time to get to your combat ship and I doubt people will want to just dock up and clonejump there since it takes 24h to get back and then you will have to jump back to do it all over.
(and ofc then becoming angry when you lose a 700m ship, wth is MD flying and why the heck did he undock in that ship? if he knew there were hostiles around)

yup Md is a dick with his "do this or else...." ways doesnt he realise people pay to play the game so will do whatever the fuck they like, so you need to make involvment in defence fun and beneficial, anytime i got involved i was sitting watching others do all the fun, repping feckin pos's or being "told" to leave my SB and scout in my egg (before SB's could fit cov ops) and that is why i hate EZ :)

oh and "telling" people how to fit their ships in silly ways as i mentioned before i am Caldari trained with nice shield skills i have 0 armour tanking ability so why would i fit that way?

Take it away from them, but leave them the power to create money, and with the flick of the pen they will create enough deposits to buy it back again. However, take away from them the power to create money and all the great fortunes like mine will disappear and they ought to disappear, for this would be a happier and better world to live in. But, if you wish to remain the slaves of bankers and pay the cost of your own slavery, let them continue to create money." Josiah Stamp (Governor Bank of England 1928-41)

They seem to have realized this and RR means any kind of RR, they have the armour and shield BS in different squads mostly now.

true, but an unfortunate timing. not saying it was (is going to be) a onetimer, but excessive and not how it is all the time, at all.
understand your sentiments, but some perspective is in order imho

It is also a large portion of frustration which is understandable, people don't join the defence fleet but the main reason is probably "the reds will be long gone before I get there" rather than people being lazy fucks :).

He lost his ship this morning - ie during work time for most and afk time for many of us online.

And looking at the killers, he lost it to farmers.

Quote from: Alenzo

The people who ignore the pvp fleets are mostly the guys crying loudest when get shooted in the belts during ratting, so they get punished instantly.

1. we start to get better, everyone who wants to get better should join us on this fleets
2. we need to get 1-2 FC´s more, just in case you have some online if needed, any volunteers?
3. people have to get a little bit more self-sufficient in forming fleets and communicating in short ways, defence fleet 5 min, 20 members, ready at meeting point. my wishes

So they have issues with participation but don't want to try to fix it???

1. It isn't about getting better, it is about getting people to be able to plan their playing schedules.
2. Well no argument, always need more FC's.
3. Eh 5min? It takes longer than 5 min for me to switch from a ratting ship to a combat ship if I'm in the same system. It isn't possible.
