I will have to redact some things.

For me running around with some friendly faces now and then is more important than the specific name we do it under. I know we can share chat channels and use discord, etc. But it's also nice to just see some guildies online. So I'd rather do that under name X rather than be the only one online under a HoJ banner most of the time.

I'll sub once people are done pounding the servers into the ground on the first day or two. Need to reformat a machine to run it first and I'm sure I can come up with some names that end on -kini if my main is taken.

Doing a druid on both alliance and horde. Planning to run my night elf over to Dun Morogh to start that goat reputation grind early just in case I play longer term.

Is Discord what the kids are using these days to communicate?

Wouldn't be the classic experience if everything went smoothly.

I'll have a look somewhere in September when the dust has settled. Currently running too much of a potato apparently.

...the first thing I'll be doing as I flip to 40...

Happy birthday, you old tart!

Can the game still run on a potato?

I'll probably sub at least a month or upgrade my expansion level (currently Legion). Get bored with the grind really quickly. Do Deadmines once. And that'll be that. :D

Or if there are a few people casually having fun under the HoJ banner I'll tag along longer.

Just got an email for a free 100 level character boost with a subscription to celebrate 15 years as well.

I can still remember how WoW physical copies were sold out the first few months and I couldn't get in until the next wave in April while a few friends were already playing.

Supposedly it's nowhere near being available.

I guess that confirms it for me then. I think I'll let my dad run out his Vista experience until next year on his laptop as well. We were considering bumping him up to Windows 7 and then 10. He can always get a cheap new laptop with Windows 10 next year since he only uses a browser and the occasional Word document anyway.

There's a tool by a well known security expert that makes it easy to change/remove a registry key that will prevent Windows 10 from downloading/installing:

Download button half way down the page on the right. Security expert. Definitely not a usability expert.
Also: sound warning when using the tool. Turn down your volume.

Turns out the girlfriend has been paying more attention than me. I already had 6,3GB worth of Windows 10 files on my laptop ready to be installed! Her laptop was clean. Damn it.  :'(

Removed that shit and disabled it with Never10 with two clicks.

So assuming Microsoft actually pulls the plug on the free upgrade on 29th July 2016...

What say ye? Upgrade from Windows 7/8: yay or nay?

Personally I'm still trying to make up my mind. Privacy settings in Windows 10 can be toned down manually. And surely Microsoft has been collecting plenty of our data for the past 20 years. That's not my biggest concern. I'm not too fond of the constant updating and rebooting it seems to force on you. Or can that be completely disabled as well?

My laptop is from 2011. Definitely planning to get new hardware before Windows 7 becomes obsolete in 2019. So I'm tempted to just stick it out. No telling which of my current programs will stop working or what might go wrong with an upgrade. Or if you need to do a full reinstall. Had a few months a while ago where my graphics drivers and Windows versions were causing a lot of BSODs, but they fixed that. Other than that I've been happy with Windows 7.

But you're one serious cease and desist letter away from the private server being shut down like And losing everything "instantly". Admittedly there's always the risk of a dev pulling the plug on a game and official servers, but most of the time you can see that coming by constant server merges and overall dropping player base.

Thanks! I have those but didn't try them yet. Reinstall time.
