Title: Excitement today
Post by: Rubino on March 23, 2009, 02:18:15 PM
We had some excitement today while I was putting the Roqual through it's trial run.
3 Hostiles turned up in system - and we got the miners out without a problem.

Red however was scrammed and they proceeded to have a go to take it down....
.... and they tried....
.......... meanwhile Red raised the alert in the intel channel (albeit badly) and the corp scrambled into combat ships.....
.... and they tried....
.......... a decent sized gang turned up from the fountain blue and Hrod and Const jumped into the fray - to which one of hostiles warped....
.... and they tried....
.......... the blues pounded back and the hostiles warped out licking their wounds - alas no kills - and the Rorqual was still at 85% shields.

Nice support by the corp - and a good response by blues in the intel channel - esp Event Horizon who turned up in force and helped out.  Kudos to those guys.

Sounds like you guys had fun :)  Altough I bet Red did, before help arrived, see in his mind dollar bills flying away  ;D

he said he had fun when he saw his tank hold against them so he lived to learn from the experience ;)

Whats your setup on the roqual Red?

Currently:

I'll be swapping out the Cargohold rigs in a week or so when the last bits have been moved and replacing them with either +shield or +armor rigs.
The adv of the armor over the shield is that it adds more of a "surprise" factor when dealing with hostiles.  However more shields means the shield resists count for more.

The setup will look something like (EHP of 1.277M with resists of 62/70/77/81):

Quote
[Rorqual, Near Term]
Capacitor Power Relay II

It's a pipe dread but the ideal setup imho would be (EHP of 1.404M with resists of 71/76/82/85):

Quote
[Rorqual, Ideal]

Mining Foreman Link - Mining Laser Field Enhancement
Mining Foreman Link - Laser Optimization
Capital Tractor Beam I
[empty high slot]

Which would be cap stable at 64% with everything apart from the tractor beam running.
I have a personal pref for the Dread items :)

This morning I was using T2 meds with some EW drones thrown in.
After the "encounter" I switched to short range Sentries (Garde & Curator) and some EW drones.
My drones weren't able to keep up with the Crow that was webbing me.

Imo when we get the corp funds up and running properly after the move one of the first things we should consider is to equip the few caps we have with corp funds using the best modules etc.
Especially for caps not meant for front line combat.

Also a question, the empty high slot wouldn't a cloak be a decent idea to have there??

14billion isk is average value of the best mods for caps (such costs are why MoM's are fun to kill :D) (officer/Complex).

Now if you mean best the corp can afford once its wallet on the up and super positive, then purely faction like Red lists above is a great idea.

Thank you for setup list Red.
The reason i was asking is because im using the time im away to train Sebnemm up as my Orca pilot (38 days left to go including rig and gang mod training) along with her BC and HAS capabilitys, Hellfire is already an Orca Pilot but her Hulk mining skills are of more use to me than having her in an orca.
Chalcocite will be able to fly a decently tanked Hulk with sentrys and Odin will be able to multi task btwn Command (Nighthawk), recon (Falcon) also he will have Caldari and Gallente cruisers and Battleships at V along with decent electronic and sentry drone skills. Im just finishing up his Sharon training at present also.
The main point being knowing what u were using that could keep three nastys at bay whilst help was incoming will be usefull in fine tuning my training until i get back to playing in a few weeks.  ;D

Cool.  Sounds good.

The things to keep in mind with caps generally and especially the Rorqual is that jumping uses cap - and that to make a jump requires a minimum amount of cap (affected by Jump Drive Operation).
It starts at 95% capacitor and can come down to around 70% at lvl 5.

The cap recharge rate is pretty slow on the Rorqual (65 mins recharge without mods) - hence the need for the Capacitor mods and hence the converse that one of your greatest risks is Nuets/Vamps from hostiles.  Without the Cap Shield booster active you've a regen of about 250 cap/sec - with the Shield Booster running you've only a net gain of 25 cap/sec.
The largest non-faction neut will drain 25 cap/s - which on a specialised ship (curse) maxes @ 50 cap/s.

In terms of defence then a mixture of drones is your best option.  While you can fit smartbombs - you're looking at a max range of approx 10km with officer (and hence expensive) ones.  You'll also run the risk of popping your own drones.  Yesterday I had an interceptor (crow) webbing me and orbiting at 10km (outside the range of SB's).  I tried T2 Med without luck on it - he was moving too fast - so I've gone with the short range sentries (T1 at the mo) which I hope will work better.  The T2 med drones did eat nicely into the Cruiser that was also having a go at me :)  I didn't see what/if any dmg that was done to the (hac I think) that was there (I was kinda busy at the time).  I'm also looking to carry some SW-900's (I didn't have any on hand at the time) which I think will also help but 5 of them will only drop a crow running a 4k/s to 1310k/s - handy only really if you've support on site that can stop any hostiles warping.

I think the sentries might work - but I'm worried that they won't be able to track something like the crow without setting them up first at range.
Something I need to test :)

The Cap Shield booster with the Shield Boost Amp will give you around 7800 a cycle (780/s) - again helpful and most use when you have a small number of hostiles around.  One of the hostiles yesterday (the ship I can't remember) was fitted with faction cruise (kinetic) and was hitting me for around 550/missile - which sounds like a lot until you consider that the rof for T2 cruise launchers is 17s (before skills and mods).
Factoring in skills and more launchers (5) and you're looking at around 2500/volley (10s) which can be tanked easily.

The main reason I was down to 85% shields yesterday was mostly due to the NPC's in the belt being BS's :)

We can test the tracking some day if you want. I should be able to orbit about the same as the crow with a vigil (or the stiletto if the risk of it getting blown up is small ;)).

Cool - we can start with a single sentry but there is some risk - you know how drones can be :)

Hehe yes I know.
Can start with a vigil and if that is no problem move to the stiletto. The main difference is cap and sig radius. Don't know if the sig radius affects drone tracking.
