Title: EU III
Post by: Mangala on February 27, 2009, 12:08:51 PM
Is it worth me snagging off Steam?

I like the look of it, the depth it suggests attacts me...  but is there anything horrid I should know?

Oh, EU III, didn't notice this thread :)  There are some of us here who are from the Paradox forums you know :)

Yes, it is definitively worth it, if you like proper strategy games!

Anything horrid...? Be sure your gfx card can handle the game. It doesn't run on steam-powered lap-tops, unlike some people seem to hope/believe. Other than that, I can only give my thumbs up (but then again I am biased :P).

Also available from Gamersgate (Paradox own web-shop) at http://gamersgate.com/index.php?page=product&what=view&sku=DD-EU3COM

One thing to note with EU III from steam is that the tutorials dont work. So if you havent played them before and have no idea how the interface works then you may want to think again.
The main game itself is fine.

We need to set-up a MP game at some point. Altough I've heard Steam EU3 has some issues if trying to MP with non-Steam EU3, dunno if that is true or just an urban legend though. Personally I have the boxed version, of course :)

I'd be up for that - just give me a week or so to get a handle on the game so I dont embarass myself horribly.

Loving it so far.  Tend to play it on steam in offline mode with my laptop disconnected from the net otherwise I wander away from it :D

Took me a while to get into it, but slowly and surely im finding it easier to figure out evey time I load it up.  Started fresh games a few times to try out different strategies, still nowhere close to feeling able to MP it though.

Havent tried the HOI2 pack I bought yet, but most likely going to get HOI3 though :D

1) Open your browser
2) Go to www.google.com
3) In the Google search field type hearts of iron 3 demo and press enter
4) Select from the about 250 links provided where you want to download the demo from

just think it's stupid that hoi3.com says in news that demo is up and list will be updated, but that the list is nowhere to be found (not by NOOBs anyway)
