Title: Electronic Warfare (EW) ships
Post by: Rubino on January 20, 2009, 05:32:27 PM
Lifted from the forums but a good summary of EW, specifically the recon ships:

Quote
Falcon/rook: prevent enemy from targetting anyone in your own gang/fleet. Awesomely useful, especially with this ship (the kitsune is handy too).
Curse: Energy thief. No energy, not tank, as someone else said. And in the case of amarr, gallente, and some caldari, no guns either. Vicious if used right.
Rapier/huginn: webber/warp disruptor boats. Prevent the enemy from escaping if they're buggered, and provides you with the ability to gain a confirmed kill rather than a damaged target.
arazu: shorten enemy targeting distance. Forces the enemy to have to get close to you. Handy if you want to remove snipers and ranged ships from the fight. combine this with jamming on the close ranged ships, and it becomes real nasty for the enemy.

All in all, useage of at least one of each of the above, if not multiples can be a real winner. You still need stuff like interceptors and so on, as well as some DPS boats, but these ships can really turn the tide if used correctly.

Having just managed to get a cheap Rook its where my training is going next, ill prob get a Falcon as well, as the cloak fitting on it makes it very nice.

Falcon, Pilgrim and Arazu are the only ones worth going for.
In that order really ... the rook's like a falcon that can't cloak ...

I recommend recon ships highly, especially the falcon. So much that I'm currently training recon ships V :-)

Just out of curiosity, is the Griffin worth anything in EW?

I'd think EW ships get targeted fast, and the Griffin seems to be quite cheap to replace. Ie what is the crucial point I am missing here?

It has a place, its a nice entry level EW bird, and as you say its cheap - its also in its own case, quite a good alternative to its own t2 version, the Kitsune.

Anyone got a good fit for a Blackbird?  Using t2 if at all possible, want to have a play with one on Mangala and see how it fits me :)

i set up a Scyte (http://www.eve-wiki.net/index.php?title=Scythe) today, got 2 tracking links, with a bit of training i could get T2 modules and be a nice complement to 2 snipers giving about 15-20% (or 25-30ish% for one sniper) extra range and some medium autocannons to fend of smaller targets
will have to train to advanced weapons upgrades to put the 2 missile launchers online too...

also possible to switch to faster tracking if need be, seems script switch goes pretty fast, not 10 secs like with ammo
