over 45,000 players in new eden
reported by CCP Manifest | 2009.01.05 01:07:11 | NEW
What a great way to start out 2009--a new PCU (Peak Concurrent User) record of 45,186! While we've made tremendous serverside changes in the EVE Online infrastructure with the EVE64 and StacklessIO initiatives, it is truly a testament to our loyal fans that 5 years into EVE's existence we are still breaking records and more people are flying in New Eden than ever before.
We know we'll be trying to find leftover champagne from New Year's EVE to celebrate. When we do, we'll toast to you!
-
And I wasn't logged on then! :o Assuming the 01:07:11 is the game-server- time when this did happen :)
-
Now they only need 9950000 to reach wow numbers hehe :)

Nah, that is the number of players online at the same time, not the number of subscriptions. A WoW server croak if there are 2000 players online at the same time :)

Broken 1 week later:
46,436 at around 7pm :D
Keeps rising!

As we know this hit 51675 on Sunday.
Eves come along way since the days when I first started of 10k online or even the 26k or so when i started again in 2006.
Due in large to the Alliance Tournament VI finale this weekend, the PCU (Peak Concurrent User) record was broken the third time this year with 51,675 pilots logging in to the single-shard world that is EVE Online. That's well above the previous record of 48,065 and signifies the largest PCU jump we've ever had to break the 50k milestone.
In addition, recent goings on between major player Alliances, a vengeance-fueled assassination during last weekend's Tournament rounds and general excitement about the impending release of EVE Online: Apocrypha have all combined to energize just about everyone--players, the CCP Dev Team, media and people who have never even encountered EVE before but are now quite curious.
Like always the true credit goes to you, the players, who give EVE the unmeasurable depth that makes it unique. Thank you.

I wonder if we will break it again after the retailbox is released.
also noticed you can "buy" eve on steam. a ripoff if you ask me since you can also get a free trial if you join via the eve website itself.
@myself try to stay on topic
