Repost of a post Dale Irvin made in Command on the alliance forum. Im sharing this here as I do think its a good move, and tbh closeness to NPC 0.0 was one of the reasons I hauled us across new eden in the first place...
Great wildlands is the nullsec npc region next to Molden Heath. You cannot hold sov there since it is NPC 0.0 so no TCU SBU etc etc...However there is still the same things you can do in other 0.0 space, ratting(angel rats), plexing(phat lewtz), moon minning and of course PVP.
Now at the moment with our size we are not going to be able to live in 0.0 without friends, there are just to many powerhouses that are going to kick us out in the first few days. In Great Wildlands there are a few allainces that had blue standings with SEALS. RE-AL, True Reign, Ethereal Dawn, Warped Agression are a few. I have been in and out of the region and I have talked with them and they want us to go down and to help boost the number of allies in the area.
A bit of History in the area, many in the allaince know of Cult of War(Cow) and thier pets such as Gentlemens Club and Yarr and CO who basicly go around just killing stuff lived in GW. RE-AL and True reign have been living in the region fighting COW for a long time now and have had great success their only problem being their numbers. COW and their pets have just recently left the region and claimed their own sov basicly emptying GW of reds. Leaving only blues to take over the area and the only real threat that is left is the roaming gangs that pass by there is no more big nasty allaince living in the area.

What I would like to see is if we can our diplos can talk to theirs and we can get some activity going down there. I really think this is our best chance in 0.0 for us right now and it would get us used to the nullsec life as we want sov in the long run.

So folks, what say you? Ive already experessed my support for such a thing in Command, but I'd like to get an opinion from us all on this.

Thats my concern.
If everything is blue (and afaik Re-al and TR are NRDS) does that mean we have to live in something similar to providence but without the roamining gangs to shoot at?
Also Dale is seriously overestimating Re-Al/TRs hold over GW, they nominally have some idea of keeping it nrds but they don't have any ability to enforce any kind of hold over the valuable moons or similar there.
COW/GC still hold significant amounts of moons and probably most of the good ones.
However I see the point Mang makes and agree that it is probably a very good way to go for the alliance. I just fear they will settle into the same "grind npcs and rocks" they are in now.

Always possible but as said I'm never without concerns. That doesn't mean I'm not for it in general as long as we go in with open eyes and not as pets of re-al and TR.

Seems a good idea - making friends and connections can't be bad - plus its just next door to Kasrasi so gets my vote. Once we get a few dreads and carriers we can start taking some of cows moons off them as well. Bit of exploration for gas clouds and some booster production might also be on the cards. All good if you ask me.

Hrod - tower(s) you have plans for in GW, we can use a staging tower (for MAADI anyways :D) ;)

Yes, the idea is in L1s at a good moon there, but won't put it up until I can supply it with jump capable ships. NOT!!!!!! hauling fuel for large towers in a indy :p

Haha yes, and in npc 0.0 you are even unsafer.
(oh and to clarify I won't haul in a freighter either in 0.0 ;) )
What I will do is continue to probe moons. To help the alliance and try to find something juicy for us.

Basically, seems someone wants us to be pets to a no holder alliance... Thats worse than being pet to holder alliance.

let's wait for diplo's to do their thing, they didnt really have time to do stuff, but if this is how it's going to be, it might not be their best advert to getting more ppl into GW to help defend it.

ok i talked with them today and they said they have no problem with us living there but as long as we operate nrds we can have access to the x up and intel channels, and once we start fleeting up with then we will be blue. as far as u3k goes he said that they try and keep that system just TR and re-al but they will not be hostile to us.

To me it feels, well, like they intend to keep the by far best system to themselves and dictate terms. But maybe I'm just to sensitive and paranoid what do I know. In either case, it'll be a COLD day in hell when I take orders from either.

MM and Razor learnt from our own painful lessons what it takes to be a spaceholder and we would not be easy alliances to remove from power while we retain the people that learnt those lessons. I have confidence in my alliance's ability to cope with challenge because we went through the highs and lows of of spaceholding without anyone to protect us, we had to find out very bitter lessons on where we needed to improve. How does one learn those lessons when protected from any real adversary?

Hehe the russian pets threatened me when I was up there poking around.
They "claim" BRT and beyond for themselves. There were a few bubbles (one medium and 3 small) nothing that stopped you from warping into the system though only out) on the gate down towards GW. Didn't stay around long but most likely ratters and miners there with combat ships at poses.

I suggest we take it easy till we get a good idea of what is going on. I won't advocate basing (hauling a lot of our assets there) in V-I if we are at risk of getting kicked out of there in a week. We don't know who or what VIP is. They are bigger than us, are probably more active than us, got more experience in PvP, etc. Plus who knows what bonds they got with the rest of ER?
I suggest a little more humble stance till we are there for a few weeks and get better bearings of the local situation.
But that's me...

Seems to be indication of them allied to legion of xxdeathxx (stupid damn name).
Which means there are nowhere in gw to live which has value. As we will be set red by real if we us u3k and the other even remotely valuable system has a whooping 3 belts (and wouldn't be surprised if they have some rule about that as well).
