A reply to this, and a way to protect yourselves
Had a goon attempt to gank my Hulk in his armageddon a couple of days ago, I was afk at the time and just trying to get some minerals together.
The attempt failed, and I got some nice salvage loot from the attacker, it made my day, I'd purposely setup in empire because I wanted a day away from 0.0 pvp.
So how did I do it? Well I didn't read the miner's guide that talks about permarunning deadspace shield boosters, that doesn't help against alpha. Instead I set up for higher resists and concentrated on boosting my ship's effective hit points, if you can give up one of your low slots a Damage Control II will make a huge difference. I also have a high sec status so Concord arrived a whole lot sooner.

Good tip - except the hisec status thing - thats BS.
Concord arrive faster in higher sec space, or if they are already on scene, players sec status has nothing to do with it :)

And while having a sovless delve to move into, it still took the Goons having to NAP (set blue) most of the rest of 0.0 space to actually kill Kenny!

hmmm guess ill be fitting my hi sec hulks with a tank and 5 T2 Drones apiece just for the hell of it ;D

How do they salvage the destroyed hulk when they've just been nuked by hi sec forces?
EDIT: Ah, here it is:
Use your alt to scoop the loot of your victim.
Though I'm still not 100% on the mechanic. What's to stop someone else running in and scooping up the salvage while you're switching to your alt?

Nothing, ive done "battlefield clean up" before now before the actual parties have managed to get in gear :)
Although alts in eve's case are usually another account running alongside the main, rather than another character on the mains account.

Depends what drops - if as many hulk pilots do, the hulk was fit with a faction tank (pith, or gisti or pirate faction), then you could make enough to pay for a months game time :) But it all depends on IF said gear dropped, as it is not a given it will.
If all the goods on a tech 2 fitted hulk dropped, you'd still make around the 20million isk mark. For example: http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/killmail.php?id=3174031 (Ex corpie from my Sanctuary days lost a hulk to the first jihad last year); Only dropped 6mill or so, but had the potential to drop more.
The 20mill will for the ganker/jihadist cover the isk lost between the ship insurance and what you actually spent, so its a worthwhile risk :)

Another side effect of the Jihads - Market manipulation.
Both of ice prices in target areas, hulk prices, t2 fitting prices. All can be affected by a sudden increase in replacements being needed. Making the holders/inventors of t2 gear richer.

And since goons ´probably hold what? 15-20% or so of the t2 materials production they get richer.

I think hi-sec mining has changed a bit since the glory days of the first jihad. The Orca has arrived and now there are gangs of them hoovering up veld in 0.7 and above, or so I'm told.
Various tactics against the jihad : fit for the alpha strike, don't cry, insure, sacrifice the occasional alt. frigate to Concord so they hang around the belt.
Guess I'll start making those Armageddon BPCs I have lying around.
