id have hoped for a director with more sci fi experience personally, 1 movie will never be enough to give the full feel of Dune and its "wheels within wheels" political landscape.

I have on VHS (three VHS cassettes in fact) the Dune with Sting starring, and while it is an ok movie, I do think Dune deserves to be made with more and better resources at use. I hope this new one will be such :)

The problem is that it isn't really suited for a movie.
Kind of like the foundation stories.

the dune movie with sting in it is a rather castrated version of the books.
