The Dog & Duck / If you wonder where I disappeared suddenly...
« on: November 30, 2009, 06:58:22 AM »
I got a massive allergic reaction during the weekend after dinner (when I was playing LOTRO; noticed suddenly I had difficult to breath and to see the screen -> eyes, lips, fingers had all swollen and I had urticaria all over my body), and had to get to the hospital. Could barely breath when I got there, but got good care. I am home already, but not that fit yet, my fingers are still like small balloons.

I am allergic to nuts, but the meal I had wasn't supposed to have them. Not quite sure what caused the reaction thus, which makes this slightly more confusing.

Lord of the Rings Online / Legendary skill book pages
« on: November 28, 2009, 08:52:17 AM »
Dunno if I was dumb or something, but I found all the pages to one of my legendary skills (Exposed throat) from the AH, prices were from 30 to 75 silver (except page 12 which was 120 silver). Reading a few guides about the grind spending 480 silver in all didn't feel that expensive...

Anyway, I got the burglar books from Garry yesterday, and now I have the pages for one of them (and the best one too, if understand the skill descriptions correctly; a "free" 20% chance to open a fellowship move (Garry: please read that as "conjunction") every 10 seconds while doing lots of damage too. Now I of course need to continue the grind to 41 to actually slot that quest :D

Lord of the Rings Online / Fellowship moves
« on: November 27, 2009, 08:38:25 AM »
The other day in Lone lands I noticed we didn't take advantage of fellowhip moves very well. A couple times I was the only one choosing a FM move (and these did happen during the wipe-fest of the final chapter in Book2). I mean, if the chips are down, it certainly is *not* the time to ignore FM's, if you ask me :)  I am pretty certain this was caused by perhaps people not quite aware of how good FM's are, and thus just a lack of information. When things are going pearshaped, click that damn bullseye to select the FM, and if things are going to hell, click green (if we had for example all clicked green before the wipes, we'd have had massive healing, making the task for the minstrel much easier) :)

Anyway, for the future we should agree on what FM's to use in what situation. We didn't communicate about FM's at all, as mostly that was not needed (we were steamrolling through most of the content). For example, the fellowship leader might be adviced to set a GGBB as the default move for four-men fellowships (and maybe GGGBB for five men fellowships), and it should also be agreed on who clicks the FM in which order :)

There is an excellent guide to FM's at http://community.codemasters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=396876
Please all check it out, it is well written and has good examples. I think it might give some food for thought :)

Lord of the Rings Online / Recipes in the guild house
« on: November 19, 2009, 05:21:58 AM »
I suppose everybody knows there are *lots* of different recipes in the storage-chests in the guild-house. Well, everybody but me, I guess, because I figured this out only yesterday...

Grinding those hillmen for the Man deeds (first 150 hillmen for Balance of Man and then another 250 hillmen for Strength of Morale, good thing was that I had already killed about 60 when I started the grind yesterday) has seen lots of recipes drop. I've selfishly held on to the tailor recipes, but I am swimming in other recipes, and the coffers at guild-house are getting full... There are one-use recipes and normal recipes for purple weapons, rings, tools and food, most of them requirig at least artisan skill (the armour and weapon recipes for example seem to be for stuff intended for level 42-48, which is IMO pretty odd as they drop from level 32-36 mobs; those hillmen sure are weird). Please go check the guild-house coffers if you are weapon-crafter, metalsmith, jeweller or cook :)

Lord of the Rings Online / Skirmish Soldiers, what to choose?
« on: November 18, 2009, 01:45:09 PM »
I've read the bits available on skirmish soldiers, and I don't quite know what to do with them.

Warrior = Champion
Protector = Guardian
Bannerman = Captain
Herbalist = Minstrel
Archer = Hunter
Sage = Loremaster

For a burglar a tanky type (protector) would be nice, but who is going to heal him? The warrior (the champion type) apparently likes to run way ahead the burglar, thus phukkin up mezzes (but somebody doing AoE damage would be nice). Heals are always nice, but the burg usually is able to heal himself pretty well, and what else use is there for the herbalist?

At the moment I am thinking perhaps a Bannerman would be nice for a burg, and I think a Bannerman would be useful in practically any fellowship too. Can tank a bit, can heal a bit, can buff a bit, can hit a bit, can sing&dance a bit...

Or is there perhaps some cruicial point I am missing and should consider?

Lord of the Rings Online / Burglars are great!
« on: November 18, 2009, 10:08:28 AM »
Just thought I'd mention the obvious: Burglars are great.

I have had so big issues to continue the epic-quests with my other toons, that I haven't even bothered past Book 1. Fitzer the Burglar at level 36 has mostly by soloing got much further. In fact, the halt came yesterday in Book 4 where you have to defeat that level 41 elite forest troll (who I thought I was supposed to talk to, not fight with); simply couldn't hit the damn thing often enough (but instead of dieing, the burglar valiantly HIPSed out of sight) because of the level difference.

Thinking I need a couple more levels to actually be able to continue the epic story, Fitzer transfered to Evendim which I had mostly skipped so far. Completed some of the green quests, did hit 37, then entered solo the instance for Thief-takers bane. It did feel sort of difficult, and in the end, after countless waves the third ranger died (I was *just* too slow to sprint from the ranger group furthest up the stairs back to the first group) and the quest failed.

Porting out of the instance, there was a fellowship outside. They asked if I am interested in joining them for Thief takers bane. Well, sure, why not :)  They then continued that they had just wiped when they had tried with four (their lowest level was a 39 hunter, highest was a 42 champion), but they now had a minstrel arriving to join too... Anyway, was a breeze to do the instance now, and I am pretty sure I did almost complete it solo (at least it took a shorter time with the fellowship to complete the quest than I had in my failed, but I guess the new wave activates only after the previous one is beaten). Anyway, one of the best  instances I've been in, especially when I tried to solo it (and I am pretty sure I could have soloed the place on the second attempt when I knew what was going to happen, although I would have had to wait for my cooldowns to reset after the first attempt), very cool quest which I hope to get to do again now at some point  :)

After that did the riddle quest series (I cheated the part where I had to head up to the camp of the gaurak, didn't figure it out so I read the solution from the net  :-[ ), but had to log off then. Hopefully today I'll complete a couple more of the quests in Evendim, then hit 38, and after that I'll have a re-match with the forest troll, so that I am at same stage as Kurtt in the epic quest :)

Lord of the Rings Online / The joy of transfering a server with a character
« on: September 02, 2009, 05:32:01 AM »
If anybody ever intends to change server with a character and expect things to happen within the three busiess days mentioned in the LOTRO FAQ, you have to consider the following:

1) The day you make the transfer is not counted.

2) Thursdays are not counted.

3) If one of the days happen to be a bank-holiday in some EU country, it is not counted.

4) If a day has some major problems (some server crash for example), it is not counted.

This is my intepretation from the e-mail I got from Codemasters customer service. Ie while it appears a week has gone since I payed for the character transfer, only *two* days has actually passed. I pray there is not a bank holiday somewhere in Europe today or that no servers crash, because tomorrow is Thursday again...

General Gaming / Elememtal: War of Magic

Stardocks take on "Master of Magic" and/or "Dominions".

Looks pretty impressive, the feature list is even more impressive. If Stardock actually can pull it together, it will for sure be a true contender for "Dominions 3" on the best ever made 4X fantasy game  :o

Lord of the Rings Online / LOTRO, me and things
« on: August 25, 2009, 08:19:17 AM »
Been lately playing my Burglar on Laurelin (the one which I attempted to get transfered Snowbourne two times, but failed for some reason) together with a player from the Paradox forums the past few weeks. Very on and off (as I have once again gone totally bananas with Dominions 3; I plot world conquering strategies even when I sleep...), but I actually managed to get a horse last week :)

Anyway, I thought I'd suggest to this friend of mine if we wouldn't transfer to Snowbourne. Would be fun to be in a kinship :)

Warhammer Online / Invite to the guild
« on: July 20, 2009, 04:40:10 PM »
Any chance for an officer type to be online sometime, or to promote me or Jere to Rank 2 so we could invite each others alts to the guild?  :)  At least I am sick and tired of getting tells from random people asking to join their crappy guilds, I'd want to proudly show my HoJ colours even with my alts :)

Lord of the Rings Online / Classes and stuff
« on: June 22, 2009, 07:27:54 AM »
burgs are THE best solo class and i do not joke on that they can solo EMs of same level.
I really should give my burg a chance again. Sort of got bored having to always run solo back in the days (even though burgs can solo things most others would have trouble with) but it was slow going (sadly being able to solo things is not the same thing as breezing through things). I played a bit with him last winter again, and altough the class is now better, I still couldn't find a group for anything :(  He still havent completed all the Great Barrows quests for example :(

While on the other hand I have tremendous fun with the champion. I've reached level 22 without dieing or getting even close to dieing, and while he has trouble with elites (especially those that knock senseless) the killing speed is simply awesome (and the self heal + self power boosting are nice). After getting heavy armour on has made me feel way more comfortable with him, in Ardour stance (yeah Garry I know, spit spit, but I *am* trying to avoid getting used to Fervour because of the massive soloing nerf (I rely a lot on food healing and drink potions like a junkie, and 30% off of those are not nice)) he has about 40% mitigation (armour+parry+evade) and AoEing stuff is nice :) With a warden I can survive through lots of  crap, with the champion crap has no chance because I am the fan :P

I've also finally decided to burn the accumulated destiny points on useful stuff, so I've had the blue bar for experience ever since I came back from the vacation (sadly will only one of those 250 point boosters left). Experience is thus racking in real fast for little effort now :)

Hmm, the patch-notes seem interesting. Perhaps it would be a time to see how the game is now, at least in the lower levels :)
