EVE Online / PvP Moa
« on: February 05, 2010, 03:15:28 PM »
I would again like some comments. I am planning to take this sort of a Moa for tonights alliance roam, unless there are some outburts of protests. I know it is pretty expensive with the rigs, but I am sort of willing to take the risk.

The design-philosophy

Range 5-20 km: With blasters the optimal range is well inside 3 km with my skills, and that is not a safe place to be in 0.0. Smaller railguns have piss-poor DPS (T2 ones have pretty good, but I can't fit T2 Medium railguns). 250mm railguns with antimatter ammo provides an optimal range of 20 km and nice DPS (even better with faction ammo, if I just happen to have any in store). Can't fit the 250mm guns without the rigs though, which could be a major pain.

Gank vs tank: While my main concern with this build was to have as good dps as possible, I want to have some change at living for a few seconds if under fire. 13k EHP isn't much, but perhaps it could be enough to live to another day.

E-war: Fitting in a target painter or warp disruptor sees the capacitor run dry very very fast. I can fit e-war drones though (any of the small ones), and I fitted in energy neutralisers as an example (mainly to be able to suck tacklers dry if that is needed).

Other: The last high-slot could have a small vampire or a small remote repper (not enough power grid to mount an assault missile launcher, not to mention medium vampire), so I decided to fit in a small remote hull-repper if that is needed after combat (can't really use during combat, as the range is pisspoor and the capacitor would run dry too fast).

Please, comments. Is it utter madness to take such a boat to a PvP roam? I know it is expensive, but I just *want* to use for once something that has a decent kick in it...

Warhammer Online / Patch 1.3.4 in February?
« on: January 29, 2010, 07:22:51 AM »
No patch notes available yet, but this post from Andy Belforf from Mythic.

Quote
Folks,

Everyone has been asking for more details about 1.3.4. Well, while I can't provide the patch notes, just yet, I can certainly give you a bit more information than what was discussed in Bruce's Producers Letter, including a rough timeline:

At this point the plan is to have 1.3.4 on PTS by the first week of February or (at the latest) early the second week of February. Patch notes, of course, will accompany the opening of Warpstone.

We will be introducing an entire new line of weapons earned via RvR (this is the "feature players have been asking for"). These weapons will be purchasable via a vendor and will not be bought using medallions or crests, instead utilizing an entirely new currency system earned via Scenario gameplay from tiers 1-4. More information about these new items and how they're earned will be forthcoming in a Dev Diary with Developer Sean Bosshardt.

Speaking of Scenarios...

We are completely reworking the current structure of Scenarios by removing some of the less popular and streamlining the tiering of Scenarios. There will be more details upcoming in a Dev Diary from Content/RvR Lead Mike Wyatt next month.

The last tidbit is a change to the way that the campaign functions. Starting with 1.3.4, once a Contested City flips into the Captured state (otherwise called "Stage 2") the Open RvR Campaign will now restart, leaving the realm sieging their enemies city with a tough decision: Stay in the city, possibly defeating your opponent's King, or retreat back to the open field to defend your realm?

So there's a little more meat to some of the changes coming in game update 1.3.4. Obviously we're pretty excited about these items and even more excited to talk about 1.3.5 and beyond in Bruce's next producers letter which will coincide with the launch of 1.3.4 on all live servers. We've had a great 6 months of improving every aspect of WAR and we're more focused than ever on continuing to deliver on what our players want: Fast hitting, skull crushing and engaging Realm vs. Realm combat.

There's never been a better time to join the WAR!

EVE Online / EVEmon, character bazaar and meaning of life
« on: January 24, 2010, 07:18:17 AM »
Right. So I got last week this cunning plan. I'd send myself an extended trial, upgrade that to an account, thus get 51 days of gaming time. I had heard many good things of the new (ie which were introduced last spring) tuturials (which I've never done), I thought to make a gallente toon to practise with drones a bit (as I was/am confused with all things related with drones), train up all learning skills to level 4 and hit skills skills to fly a Dominix (I chose this build from Battleclinic as my goal), and then sell it over the Bazaar at the official forums before game time runs out.

Now for the questions. Is there any way to figure out from EVEMon how many skill points I'll have at the end of training (which will be accordinf to EVEMon on day 47 of the existence of the toon)? Looking at the toons at sale on the Bazaar, there doesn't seem to be any ~2 month old toons on sale, so maybe I should cough up one more month of play time and train up some more skills? My plan was not to get rich on this (as the primary thing I wanted was to see the new tutorials and to learn to use drones), but at least half a billion ISK would have been nice for the effort ;)

The sad point is that I am actually liking the toon, more and more. Last night when I went to bed, I caught myself from thinking "I won't sell him, it will be nice flying missions while triple-boxing"... I must remain stern!

OMG, OMG! It's M.U.L.E!

It works, it is the good old M.U.L.E, and you can play it solo, two persons on same computer or over the net. Even the music is the same!

Oh, the happy days of my youth are here again!

You'll find me as Swuul online :)

EVE Online / Drones and corp hangar

To which department should I have put the sentinel drones from last nights PvP roam? I didn't see any drones in any department, so I dumped them to "Ships". I presume that is the wrong one, but at least they are easy to find from there :p

EVE Online / Tanking bait Osprey
« on: January 21, 2010, 07:32:21 AM »
Hello, it is I, Leclerc.

Err, no, it is I, Jarkko, with my mad ideas again!

What would you target in a cruiser-frigate fleet? Would you target that scrembling frigate, or that E-war Blackbird, or that Osprey shield-repping them?

Dunno, I'd be a noob and go by the primary rule of any MMO PvP's I've played in: "KILL THE HEALER FIRST, FFS!"

Thus I came up with the idea of a live bait Osprey. There are absolutely zero tanky fits for Ospreys on ze interwebz, prolly because you won't be able to fit much about anything. But you can fit one remote-repper!

Ok, so the ship can't do much except take quite a bit of punishment for being a cruiser. Oh, it can rep 394 shields per 4.5 seconds, which could make a Blacbird or a tackling frigate live for quite a bit longer. With practically zero mobility the last line of defense would be to jump out of the gate (if fighting at a gate), which means one shouldn't take any offensive thingies (like combat or e-war drones, for example; although remote repping drones could be used, but they don't appear to be that great tbh).

Please, do point out all the reasons why this is a stupid idea :)

The Dog & Duck / Alcohol should be banned for people over 40 years
« on: January 18, 2010, 10:38:09 AM »
We had a farewell party for one of workers (who got retired) on Saturday. We started with a brunch at about 16 local time, and the list things I remember are from about 21.

It should be forbidden for people over 40 to drink alcohol. Older than 40 people should not be allowed out on town at weekend evenings.

My left knee is all bloodied, I have very sore bulb on my forehead. Hapily nobody seems here at work remember much either, but they all agree it was good they were not in as bad shape as I was.

Next time I'll drink a glass of water and head home immediatly, saying I have fever and headache. Besides, beer tastes much better at home, and there is no younger collegues trying to get you drunk with all sorts of fancy shots and whatnots...

EVE Online / Playing EVE the cheap way
« on: January 12, 2010, 06:34:36 AM »
So, I have been on the "Play EVE 5 days for free" welcomeback trial. This morning I got an offer I can not resist: $9.95 per month if I activate the account during this period.

$10 is just ~6 real money (aka euros), or does CCP have policy of $1 = 1€? If it is 6€ for month, then it is about half price to normal. Wonder if I can buy more than one month for this offer...

EVE Online / Advice on which way to head
« on: January 08, 2010, 10:57:51 AM »
I activated Swuul's account this morning, at least now for the five free days. So I might go AWOL again, but I might not.  Most of my stuff seems to be in Anttiri and Kubinen, and that is good (the Hawk Mangala gave me is down in Fountain, and I guess it will stay there for the time being :p). The cruisers I handed over to the corp are somewhere (prolly nowhere by now :D), that is not an issue. Swuul still has the Harpy, Basilisk, Badger Mk II and an Osprey in Anttiri (I think Swuleia, when I activate that account, has all her stuff in Anttiri, so will be able to eat rocks immediatly).

Anyway, could I please get some advice on where to head with Swuul now? Both regarding ships&gear, and skills.

Lord of the Rings Online / Chests in the Kinship house
« on: December 26, 2009, 01:32:20 PM »
I took the liberty to tidy up the chests in the Kinship house. I vendored the now obsolete book-pages (ie the ones which got worthless at the launch of SoM). Many of the class-items can now be stacked to 50 instead of 20, and that did make room too. I was thus able to add a few dozen items for class quests that Fitzer has picked up on his travels, so if you are about to hit 45 with a toon, go and check the chests; there are now hundreds of class-quest items in the *second* chest (I moved all the class-quest related stuff to that one).

The first chest has the taxidermist stuff (which I *almost* took out for vendoring, but decided to put them back anyway, as the new stacking limits made enough room; still, if room ever runs out, I would vote for those to be vendored :) ). There are also various recipes in this chest.

The second chest has class-quest related stuff only (and a nice pocket item for 45 from one of Garrys toons; it is very nice, but not quite as nice as the legendary pocket item you can get as early as 45 by completing the quest chain).

The third chest (the one upstairs) has now only weaponsmith and woodworker recipes (of which there are most of).

Lord of the Rings Online / Moria, here I come!
« on: December 14, 2009, 10:28:32 AM »
Fitzer hit 50 this morning :)

WARNING: Lots of ranting follows.

Fitzer will now head to Moria, probably for good (except the skirmishes and if there at some point is kinship runs to do epic quests or visit dungeons). I simply *hate* the idiocy of running around for absolutely *nothing* most of the time playing in Misty Moutains, Angmar or Eregion (I didn't check out Forochel, but I seriously doubt that would have been any different).

I wonder who are the people who thought it is a brilliant idea to make quest like "Ride to arses end to find a bag, ride back across half the world, oh Gandalf knows a good trick why dont you visit him (in the exactly other end of the world) and then ride back to me so I can then send you to the arses end again to do something equally silly" is *fun* or exiting o rmentally challenging? The council of north quests must be the most phukked up quests ever seen however; you are required to get back and forrth constantly, and you don't get the travel location until you have completed the quests. Hooray for brilliant thinking! Don't we all love to spend 90% of the game getting back and forth between the quest locations and quest givers? Eragion is only slightly worse, as you don't have access to swift travel until you've completed the quests (but the snail version really is slow; I timed it, it takes more time with the travel route to get from Rivendel to what ever that quest hub in south west corner than it gets to ride there by yourself (the travel route goes halfway to Bree before turning turning south, a royal idea of excellence that too), of course you can visit the fridge or toilet while the travel route mount is moving but there is only so many times one has to visti the fridge or toilet in an hour...

In Moria the quest hubs are close to travel routes. I already did some quests there, although it was slightly dangerous. Then again, I *like* a challenge, I play to amuse my self, and I get more amused when I overcome difficult odds. However, my fuse burned with the back and forth moving there too, as the travel locations require level 50 (now that is fair enough, it is a requirement you basically need to do quests there, not the retarded system of "you get the travel location when you don't need it anymore".

/END OF RANTING

I have high hopes for Moria. The quests I did had a very good feeling, and they felt pretty challenging too. I hope the challenge level stays up even in the quests further in in Moria :)

Lord of the Rings Online / Class quest 45
« on: December 08, 2009, 11:08:28 AM »
Fitzer hit 45, and I got a couple class quests now. Tried to check some guides about this, but seems things are very different now.

Was there any dev-letter or anything on the class-quests? If I understand correctly, I should head to Misty Mountains and whack furry things, and then try to find cave-claws. Or is there something else to consider in the class quests now?

Lord of the Rings Online / SoM issues
« on: December 02, 2009, 05:57:01 AM »
There are some problems with corpses of mobs not despawning (and thus not respawning either) properly:
http://community.codemasters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=398804

The problems with skirmishes is according to the USA forums because of high traffic in the areas. If you intend to do the skirmishes from get-go, it might be advisable to park somewhere where you do not expect heavy concentration of players (I think I'll park Fitzer in Tinnundir).

The shared vault seems to produce some odd results when stacks are combined in the shared vault (if you have pre-ordered the adventure pack, that is). The correct procedure seems to be you should combine stacks in your own bag, don't do it in the shared vault, as the items seem to get misplaced (some claim they might disappear).

Be sure to have empty bag-slots and and quickbar slots. Dunno how many of the things we get on the EU side as they got on the USA side, but seems things disappear if there are not enough slots open for all of the stuff.

Lord of the Rings Online / Tomb of Elendil
« on: December 01, 2009, 07:54:29 PM »
Do we have enough people interested in the kin to get Tomb of Elendil done with a HoJ run? Or should Fitzer (at 41 now) try to PUG it?
