Warhammer Online / T4 RvR Boycott
« on: September 02, 2009, 12:28:11 PM »
The last couple of weeks have been hell for Order in T4 RvR.  Essentially, the zerg has grown to monster proportion: Destro wont take even a BO with less than 4 warbands (I exaggerate but not by much).  They simply roll over any opposition and roll through the zones up to the forts.  It is at that point that numbers are capped and Order then has a fighting chance at victory having suffered all day at the hands of the zerg (even when we go to a zone without the zerg they appear as if from out the ground to stop us getting our miserable wooden-spoon renown for a BO capture).  This has led to a downward cascade failure of Order morale as all but the hardcore see less and less point in being grinder fodder.  All the usual signs of defeat appear - in-fighting, blame games, guilds closing in on themselves, paranoia of cross-realm spies (as if!! but it seems that some people care enough about the fleeting victories of WAR to actually bother to have spies) breaking communications, closed warbands etc etc.

Then, as if it this wasn't enough Destro feel they have to cheat to win forts: they pull the Lord downstairs and kill him away from the defenders.  Despite complaints and petitions and evidence (HD fraps no less) of this GOA have done nothing.  So now the biggest Order RvR guild on the server - Disorder - has decided to boycott all T4 RVR activity for a week and apparently other larger guilds are gonna join them (including this one for what its worth - me and my rapier will be taking a break while Grilhelm fights in T3). We are letting Destro have it if they want it that bad. Hopefully, this will provoke something to fix the problem (I can tolerate the zerg up to a point because its better than no activity at all but cheating when winning just sucks).

Other MMO's we have played / Camera Spin
« on: August 18, 2009, 03:45:17 PM »
Well I finally got in but now play is impossible without getting seasick - the camera spins continously around my character slowly panning upwards until I'm looking down and spinning.  When I try and run I have to constantly pull the mouse across - its like steering a shopping trolley with a wonky wheel.  Tried all the camera options I can find logged a bug ticket - has anyone else experienced this kind of thing?

EVE Online / War Decc against Eurythmia
« on: August 16, 2009, 09:32:23 AM »
As some of you may know I've had a wardec in place against Eurythmia for 2 weeks now.  I've hardened the POS and Lannee is nearly ready to act as gunner if there should be any action.  Thing is, the war dec is from a one man corp owned by a guy called Jita's Broker who spends all his time in, errmmm let me guess, Jita.  I was expecting the wardec to lapse after a week but it didn't and now he's becoming an annoyance for me to have to keep checking the POS, so I was thinking of taking the war to him somehow.  For which purpose, can I ask you guys, if you're in Jita or the vicinity, to just make a note of his habits and activities for me?  At some point I will take a look see if he has a POS anywhere - if he does you may like to join me for a takedown? well any and all info gratefully recieved. :)

EVE Online / COSMOS missions
« on: December 11, 2008, 01:44:52 PM »
These are fun to do as a group, a bit more challenging than equivalent level "normal" missions.  Also, great for faction standings increase, which is good for all sorts of reasons.

Here's a link for the Caldari COSMOS:

I'd be happy to join in on some of these if you need a tank / hacker / archeologist.

EVE Online / Tanking Styles
« on: December 05, 2008, 10:41:38 AM »
"Tanking" in Eve means how you defend your ship from damage, pretty much like all MMOs really except there isn't a specialist class for doing this.  Tanking in Eve is done by a finding an optimum mixture of your preferred ship's specification, the skills you train, your expected opponent and your tactics - get this right and even the smallest frigate has the potential to take down much larger ships.  I cant go into all the details but hopefully this will help you understand the discussion on various forums.

STYLES

There are loads of esoteric methods employed but the basics (as far as I can tell) are: Shield Active, Shield Passive, Armor Passive, Armor Active, Speed, EW and for small gangs - Spider.

(a) Shield / Armor, Active / Passive:  Ships have three "layers" which take damage - Shields, Armor, Hull.  So, shield tanking would mean buffing and protecting your shield from damage and you can pretty much guess from that what Armor tanking means.  Some people say "real men Hull tank" but generally if you start taking damage to hull you need to be getting ready to warp your pod to a safe spot before the infinite void of space rips your innards into a thousand sparkling shards.  Active tanking of either sort is where the pilot actively engages in keeping the shields or armor repaired.  Passive is about setting up the ship to have enough capacity or resistance to damage for survival until your opponent decides to quit or turns into salvage.  Spider tanking is a variant of active tanking where groups of ships repair each other in a web.  Shield tanking is a speciality of Caldari missile boats and will tend to die fast once their shield is gone.  Amarr armor tank as do most Gallente - don't expect them to bug out when their shield is dead.

(b) Speed tanking: this has been nerfed recently but is still viable.  Essentially it means orbiting at a fast speed around your opponent.  This requires a fast and agile ship if you want to stay within range to damage your opponent (otherwise you might as well break off), orbital mechanics generally mean the faster you go the further away you are unless you are agile.  High orbiting speed means missiles are less able to harm you and turrets are less able to track you.  Minmatar were the masters of speed tanking though small ships usually need to use this tank against the bigger ships.

(c) EW : this is using various forms of electronic warfare to mess with your opponent's ability to target, hit, track or maybe even find you.  I find this the most satisfying way to win  (any of you who play backgammon will know the satisfaction of playing a back game and watching your opponent's mood change from triumphal gloating to a despairing "wtf?").  Every faction has a special form of EW that they specialise in (but of course you can fly all faction ships if you train for them).  And there is a lot of meta-gaming going on about counters and counter-counters etc.  I personally love flying the Sentinel EAF and I just got into a Curse Recon - its just a shame that the Black-Ops ships were pre-nerfed (a stealthing, jumping Dominix would have been too godly I guess).

Warhammer Online / Class discussions
« on: October 31, 2008, 10:03:43 AM »
I'm hesitant to introduce a thread where we discuss individual classes because of the potential they have for arguments.  However, I think t would be useful, for the purpose of working towards Da Plan, for people to introduce to others the classes that they play: strengths, weaknesses, role, expectations from other classes, playstyles, special tricks, tactics etc. I suggest one absolute rule for this though: if you don't play the class, you have nothing useful to say about it so say nothing.  And, a second less absolute rule : restrict it to oRvR where possible since that is where we team up more often.  This could also apply to any Dest classes we may have played to help us understand weaknesses and tactics and how Order is perceived.  Sound good?
