EVE Online / Anyone want to buy 3 characters?
« on: June 28, 2009, 06:07:26 PM »
I'm clearly not playing at the moment, and my three 'additional' characters are cash sinks that aren't really doing much of use.
I have:

1 x Near Dread Pilot (26M SP combat jock, Gallente BS V, Large Hybrid V) with Gallente Cruiser V, Minmatar Cruiser V, [ Minmatar, Gallente, Amarr ] Frigate V - all sorts of gunnery specialisation.
2 x Miner Characters @ 9-10 MSP each (Myenne being one of these) - both of whom have Exhumers IV, Refining V, Refinery Efficiency V, Mining V, Metallurgy V etc

I guess I'm just looking for raw ISK, but I'm hoping they can stay 'in the family' ... the Dread pilot has a tainted history (I got him from a former BoB player, and then I had him in with Goons for a while) so as a result is basically not going to be able to join either alliance, but should be fine for everything else (and I believe is currently in Ma'adim).

The other two are from scratch and have only been in Ma'adim or NPC corps.

Let me know if you're interested ... I haven't checked the alliance forums for details on what the going rate is, but it used to be around 500M ISK/1M SP for well specialised characters (and they are).

EVE Online / o/ Hello
« on: June 13, 2009, 05:38:25 PM »
Hello :-)

What's been happening since the last time I stuck my head in?
Sadly, I realised it's been ages since I dropped by when I popped into Eve newbs and some people didn't recognise me :)

EVE Online / You've been quiet Vac ...

... because this Saturday my wife & I are moving to 'The Big Apple' and so I've been running around trying to get my life organised ...

Big work move, so I'll be around, but less so for a few months (and thus with the Goons more likely when I am) -  still reading and posting though - go kick arse in fountain; PL are dudes  :)

EVE Online / Wari Herre - 1.3M SP (600K in Learning)
« on: January 04, 2009, 06:27:45 PM »
I have an extra alt that I have no great use for that's being used on an account I could train something useful on.
Does anyone want a 'mostly learning skills enabled' Amarr Khanid. I was considering selling him on the forums, but he wouldn't get much over 500M, so it's almost not worth training him to the stage required (I don't get the ROI).

However, it's an excellent 'starter' for someone who wants a combat character and I'd like it to go to a newbie in Ma'adim ...

EVE Online / Module Types - an explanation

Loot: T1 - Named - Best Named - T2 - Faction - Deadspace - Officer

This is something that confused me a LOT when I was a newbie, so here some basic pointers.

T1 items - the most basic items; can be looted or built by players from blueprints.
Refine into heaps of minerals, so if you loot basic T1 items, simply melt them.
Example: Heavy Missile Launcher I
Large Graviton Smartbomb I

Named items - some items you loot will have an additional prefix somewhere in their name and in their attributes you'll find an entry reading "Meta level" 1-4, with 1 being the lowest, 4 the highest. These items are lineary better, than basic T1, either by offering improved effectiveness, less required fittings or using less capacitor. Meta 4 items tend to be on par with T2, on single occassions even better.
Named items refine into less minerals, than basic T1, so you may be best off putting them on the market.
Example: Malkuth Heavy Missile Launcher - named, Meta 2 (iirc)
"Arbalest" Heavy Missile Launcher - best named, Meta 4
Large Rudimentary Concussion Bomb

T2 items - these have more or less advanced skill pre-requisites and perform significantly better than T1 gear. T2 items are exclusively built-only.
Example: Heavy Missile Launcher II
Large Graviton Smartbomb II

Faction items - can be looted on very rare occassions; more often than not you are likely to find a blueprint copy of a faction item and can build a limited amount of it. You can also purchase some faction items (or their respective blueprint copies) from Loyality-Point stores at some stations.
Faction items require the same skillset, as basic T1, but usually perform better, than T2. "Meta level 6" attribute.
Example: Caldari Navy Heavy Missile Launcher
Dread Guristas Large Graviton Smartbomb
Deadspace items - similar to faction, but even better, can be found in deadspace complexes if you're lucky. "Meta level 8" attribute.
Example: Pithii C-Type Small Shield Booster
Officer items - some of the most expensive items ISK can buy. Officer items only drop from "boss"-type rats and have a prefix in their name corresponding with the name of the officer rat it belonged to.
Example: Estamel's Modified Large Graviton Smartbomb

To break basic loot tables down to general rat types:

Gurista anything - basic T1 loot, named loot - regular belt rats
Dread Gurista anything - basic T1 loot, named loot, faction loot - rare faction spawns in belts
(Pithi) something (Overseer) - basic T1 loot, named loot, faction loot, deadspace loot - very rare complex or bonus mission room items
Estamel/Chelm/Draclira/... - as above + possibility of officer items - very, very rare spawns in belts, only in 0.0 systems with very low true security status

Taken from another forum I frequent; hopefully removed of anything considered opsec by them.

EVE Online / Corporate Operating Model
« on: January 02, 2009, 12:58:27 PM »

A lot of this depends on how we take the corp in terms of operating model; there are a few ways of doing this:

1. Capitalist
2. Communist
3. Communalist

1. Capitalist - the corp runs an internal store selling ships at cost price to members. The corp has a set tax rate, but anything else is down to individuals and their wallets.
2. Communist - individuals have 0 wallets. Crazy concept, but the corp pays for everything, Everything is done out of Corporate Hangar Arrays and the corporate wallet. Large purchases are made by directors (i.e. nobody buys a chimera just 'cos they feel like it) - but everyone contributes and receives the reward of their contribution. 100% tax.
3. Communalist - individuals have wallets, tax rate is high-ish (40%+), corp gives away to members a bunch of stuff (T1 ships, modules, ammo, Liquid Nitrogen, Oxygen etc), all 'corp' expenses are picked up by the corp, T2 ships are often built and then sold internally at subsidy.

I prefer communalist, but I've played in all sorts of hybrids.
But in terms of general direction, I think we should focus on industrialist/logistics with a PVP presence. Being the guys who conquer systems and build capital ships is a great thing ... :)

Let's have a vote!

EVE Online / PVP Pilots
« on: December 31, 2008, 10:59:10 AM »
Generally there are six types of PVP pilot - you're not restricted to picking one:

1. High DPS pilots
2. ECM pilots
3. Tackler/Interdictor pilots
4. Gang/Leadership pilots
5. Sniper Battleship Pilots
6. Scout

There are others - capital ship pilots, logistics and 'priest' ship pilots, but this is a start.

What do these roles break out as?

High DPS Pilots
Role: Alpha strike with near instant damage (hybrids, lasers, projectiles) or high DPS with delayed damage missiles. Offense is your tank.
Direction: Aim to fly a HAC, Battleship or BC. Focus on DPS mods and rigs, light tank

Ship Skills:             Heavy Assault Cruiser V, Battleship V, Battlecruiser V
Skills:                      Weapon Upgrades V, Heavy Assault Missiles V, Medium or Large Hybrid/Projectile/Laser V (Med for HAC, Large for BS),
Torpedo Specialisation IV, Advanced Weapon Upgrades IV

ECM pilots
Role: Target negation, jamming means that remote targets will lose locks. Denial of targeting is your tank.
Direction: Start in a blackbird, progress to a Scorpion, then move to Falcon

Ship Skills:             Caldari Cruiser V, Caldari Battleship V, Recon Ships IV (V is a 33d train that XorX is currently going through)
Skills:                      Electronic Counter Measures (ECM) V, Long Distance Jamming IV, Frequency Modulation IV, Signature Focusing IV, Long Range Targeting IV

Tackler / Interdictor Pilots
Role: Get points on the target to stop them getting away, then just chip away at them to get on killmails. Speed is your tank.
Direction: Start in a frigate, move to interceptor, then interdictor and finally heavy interdictor.

Ship Skills:              Frigate V, Interceptors IV, Destroyers V, Interdictors IV,
Skills:                       Propulsion Jamming V, Afterburner IV

Gang / Leadership Pilots
Role: Provide bonuses to the fleet as well as well-tanked DPS. You will often be called primary, so tank well.
Direction: Start in a battlecruiser, move to Command Ship

Ship Skills:              Battlecruiser V, Command Ships V
Skills:                       Leadership V, Wing Command V, All the warfare and linking skills V

Sniper Battleship Pilots
Role: 150KM+ sniping of targets. Instantaneous mass damage to a single target called by the fleet commander. Distance is your tank.
Direction: Start with T1 Battleships, move to T2 battleships or sniping HACs.

Ship Skills:              Battleship V (All races have a sniper platform - though the Rokh (Caldari) is probably best)
Skills:                       Large (Hybrid | Projectile | Energy) Turret V ; Appropriate Hybrid / Projectile / Energy Turret Specialisation IV ;
                                  Long Range Targeting IV; Advanced Weapon Upgrades Advanced Weapon Upgrades IV ; Controlled Bursts IV ;
Motion Prediction IV ; Rapid Firing IV ; Sharpshooter IV; Trajectory Analysis IV; Weapon Upgrades V; Surgical Strike IV

Scout
Role: Advance of fleet searching, scanning safespotted enemies, providing warp-ins for the fleet to surprise enemy. Also generate cyno fields for moving capitals etc.
Direction: Start with T1 fast ships, then move to Covert Ops and then Recon Ships. Warping when cloaked is the key. Cloaking is your tank. Requires a lot of patience, the ability to work fast when a target is found, and no desire to be on killmails (although later on, Recon ships are a deadly scout).

Ship Skills:              Frigate V, Covert Ops Ships IV, Recon Ships IV
Skills:                       Cloaking IV, Astrometrics V, Survey IV, Astrometric Triangulation IV, Astrometric Pinpointing IV, Signal Acquisition IV,
                                  Cynosural Field Theory I

EVE Online / Forum Opsec
« on: December 31, 2008, 09:40:09 AM »
Since we're starting to talk plans etc; would be good to increase forum opsec - EVE is a game full of metagaming and although the original HoJ guys are pretty cool as we start to do more stuff, people will start to research ma'adim, HoJ and non-HoJ folks will join (which is a good thing ... right?)

Can we have the forum setup so:

1. New signups are asked for their EvE API key - this then needs to be verified for alt characters, corporation history etc.
2. The EVE Forums are hidden from casual view. If this means creating a 'public' subforum, then so be it.
3. A private 'Opsec' subforum is created and hidden from view except to a specific and managed list (only active corp members).

I know it seems paranoid ...

Warhammer Online / 1.1 kinda meh
« on: December 16, 2008, 09:11:44 AM »
Unfortunately I've just not been grabbed by 1.1.

I'm going to go dormant at next re-up; of course, if this was any other MMO company, I could come back in 6 months or so and pick up my old characters - according to mythic, they'll wipe mine in 3 months or so; so I guess we'll see.

I'll still be around here, and still very active on EvE.

EVE Online / EvE Character Sticky Thread
« on: November 25, 2008, 10:14:42 AM »
Here are the list of EvE online characters that HoJ members are willing to acknowledge existence of.

Vac and Beos will gladly fund most minor stuff to get people rolling here.

And as Beos pointed out, momentum in EvE is key - LEARN TO MAKE MONEY - you don't need mad skillz for this.
We currently hang out in 'EVE NEWBS' channel. (Channels & Mailing Lists, join)

If Beos or I give you money, buy the following:
Cybernetics 1 Skillbook (then train it)
+2 Implants (1M each, 6 sets, = 6M)

This will make your training life whizz past that much faster. Read the other threads about this (e.g. This one).

If you want to join the HoJ corp fly to:Anttiri and join Ma'adim Logistics

Warhammer Online / Patch 1.0.5 notes

Folks,

Okay, here’s the first part of the 1.05 patch from us. The 1.05 patch is the anxiously awaited “Combat and Careers” patch. As I mentioned already, it is over 17 pages long and still growing and it includes, among other things, adjustments to every career in the game. Some careers got a special shot of extra-loving goodness and some careers also got some tough love as well as some goodness as well. We hope to post the full patch notes tomorrow morning but as we continue to conduct a final review of all the preliminary changes and the notes themselves, it might be held up a bit longer, but I certainly hope not. It is, by far, the largest WAR patch yet and is by its very nature, full of far-reaching and sweeping changes. Here are some of the highlights of the patch.

1)   We are pleased to announce the official opening of our Public Test Server. Similar to our Pendragon sever for DAoC, this server will be both open to all players but players will be able to copy (not transfer, your character remains on its server) their existing characters over to this server at anytime. This server will get the latest, but not final, version of the game and feedback from this server will be used in making any further adjustments to the version. We encourage all players who want to help in the development process to give it a shot. More information on the PTS will be posted on the Herald.

2)   Rally masters have been put at every Warcamp to make moving around the world a bit easier and faster. This is only the first part of some improvements we are making to the transportation system to cut down on the time that players have had to spend simply running back and forth between places. The next step will be to allow players to have multiple bind points.

3)   Players’ should be able to use the morale button abilities more effectively now. In other words, the darn thing should work every time.

4)   Many of the issues with spell/abilities animations not firing off/ending properly have been corrected. Hopefully we got all of the issues but only time will tell.

5)   An additional gold bag will be generated when a keep or fortress is taken.

6)   Morale abilities will now display their cooldowns correctly at all times. This is just one of many UI fixes.

7)   The "Ability Not Ready" message will no longer display when the remaining cooldown on an ability is less than or equal to the full global cooldown.

8)   Corrected an issue with the cooldown timers on the action bar buttons that was causing them to count down improperly. The timers will now count down in half-second increments beginning at 3 seconds remaining. See, I said there was more than 1 other UI fix.

9)   Another “warhammer to the head” to those that try to AFK in scenarios and PQs.

10)   All classes have had some abilities buffed and some abilities have been debuffed a bit. For example, the Squig Herder has gotten 30+ adjustments to its abilities. Out of those 30+ adjustments, the phase “damage has been increased” shows up about 80% of the time. As part of this update, the team has looked at every career in the game and made adjustments. Things such as Electromagnet, Fire Cage and snares/roots in general have drawn particular attention from the team and have had numerous changes/fixes made to them. Of course, where major changes have occurred to the careers a free re-training has been offered. Tomorrow’s notes will detail all of the changes and considering that the career changes are about 14 out of those 17+ pages, I think you can say that we made a whole lot of changes.

So, hopefully tomorrow's 1.05 patch notes will put an end to the “Mythic doesn’t respond, doesn’t want to make changes” threads eh? Nah!

Again, 1.05 is primarily the C&C patch, expect more other big patches coming as well over the next month or so. When you see the contents of the patch, I hope most of you, if not all of you, will see why we have been taking "baby steps" with C&C changes up to now.

Warhammer Online / Where's Vac?
« on: November 06, 2008, 10:22:44 AM »

Whereabouts and other details:

1. I'm still playing, don't panic - I haven't unsubbed.
2. I'm frustrated at progress and feeling sorry for myself
3. I've rediscovered my love of EvE so am quite happily doing some 0.0 PVP for a bit (Evemail "Ornan" if you're interested).
4. I'll be on-and-off a fair amount with WAR over the course of the next few weeks
5. Hopefully I'll rediscover the love and joy of the game I felt at the start.
6. I'll still forum whore a bit now and then.

Warhammer Online / Water water everywhere ...
« on: October 21, 2008, 10:30:40 AM »
... but not a drop to apothecary.

I'm after L100+ (ideally 120-150+) waters for apothecary.
They're heinously expensive to buy, and can generally be found in T3/T4 scavenging (which I have been doing).
My apothecary's up to 137 now.
