The pet combat system will actually be quite good for mid-raid downtime. I always hated the amount of time I wasted in raids just standing there.

Two things that are winding me up over this.

Scenarios, blatantly ripped off from LotRO. Could they get any more obvious?

Also, Murderball? They're stealing PVP ideas from a game still in beta?

Lol blizz!

I dont think it matters what new content they bring in, looks to me like a lot of wow players have just got bored shitless with the game, for me it just became a law of diminishing returns with each xp and they killed more and more of the social aspects of the game (ie no group quests, cross realm pvp dungeons etc), add to that the dumbing down of the game with every new xp. Wow just seems to be aiming for the lowest common denominator as a target market and the game has become so bland that interest in it is waning. Of course that's probably just my opinion and the subscription stats probably say something else entirely? Anyone knoe if the figures are rising / falling? My guess is fairly steady but that the original customer base has nearly all long since departed and replaced.

Blizzard is a company. They are here to make money. They are good at what they do. Most people would cry if they checked their bank statements to see how much money they have actually spent on playing WoW.

Pandas are pro.

I agree they are in the business of making money (and if you sell a decent product, why not?), however they are losing focus on what the people they want to take money from actually want. This car crash amalgamation of 10 million genres into the WoW banner is horrendous and the "pay to win" auction house in Diablo 3 means a lot of diablo fans wont buy it (hence why they are giving it away for free with 12 month sub), and Starcraft 2 being shit.

at least CCP are admitting making mistakes (albeit 18 months too late) do you think Blizz ever will?

WAR is still in beta? Ok, so yes, I think you could say that. But Rift has Murderball too, and that ain't in beta.

Thing is, Murderball is fun. Blizzard makes money by copying fun stuff from other games.

Uncried tears are not on wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tears), so they dont exist.

CategoryDescription
Basal tearsIn healthy mammalian eyes, the cornea is continually kept wet and nourished by basal tears. They lubricate the eye, and help to keep it clear of dust. Tear fluid contains water, mucin, lipids, lysozyme, lactoferrin, lipocalin, lacritin, immunoglobulins, glucose, urea, sodium, and potassium. Some of the substances in lacrimal fluid (such as lysozyme) fight against bacterial infection as a part of the immune system. Lysozyme does this by dissolving a layer in the outer coating, called peptidoglycan, of certain bacteria. It is a typical body fluid with a salt content similar to blood plasma. Usually, in a 24-hour period, 0.75 to 1.1 grams (0.03–0.04 ounce avoirdupois) of tears is secreted; this rate slows with age.
Reflex tearsThe second type of tears results from irritation of the eye by foreign particles, or from the presence of irritant substances such as onion vapors, tear gas, or pepper spray in the eye's environment, including the cornea, conjunctiva, or nasal mucosa. It can also occur with bright light and hot or peppery stimuli to the tongue and mouth. It is also linked with vomiting, coughing, and yawning. These reflex tears attempt to wash out irritants that may have come into contact with the eye.
Crying or weeping (psychic tears)The third category, in general, referred to as crying or weeping, is increased lacrimation due to strong emotional stress, anger, suffering, mourning, or physical pain. It DOES NOT OCCUR during the brain's Fight-or-flight response because the sympathetic nervous system inhibits lacrimation. This practice is not restricted to negative emotions; many people cry when extremely happy. In humans, emotional tears can be accompanied by reddening of the face and sobbing — cough-like, convulsive breathing, sometimes involving spasms of the whole upper body. Tears brought about by emotions have a different chemical make-up than those for lubrication; emotional tears contain more of the protein-based hormones prolactin, adrenocorticotropic hormone, and leucine enkephalin (a natural painkiller) than basal or reflex tears. The limbic system is involved in production of basic emotional drives, such as anger, fear, etc. The limbic system, to be specific, the hypothalamus, also has a degree of control over the autonomic system. The parasympathetic branch of the autonomic nervous system controls the lacrimal glands via the neurotransmitter acetylcholine through both the nicotinic and muscarinic receptors. When these receptors are activated, the lacrimal gland is stimulated to produce tears.

In a research conducted by the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel, emotional tears from women have been found to reduce sexual arousal in men. Emotional tears are made up of a different chemical component than those evoked by eye irritants and can relay chemical messages to others. The change in sex drive could be attributed to the drop in testosterone provoked by the chemicals in the tears meant to reduce aggression. In the animal world, it has been found that some blind mole rats would rub tears all over their bodies as a strategy to keep aggressive mole rats away.

So true.

Activision Blizzard Inc. reported third-quarter results Tuesday afternoon that beat Wall Street’s expectations, despite a light release schedule ahead of Tuesday’s launch of the expected blockbuster “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.”

However, the videogame publisher saw its shares fall more than 3% in after-hours trading, after closing at a new three-year high of $13.93 during the regular session. During a conference call with analysts, company officers said subscribers to its popular online game “World of Warcraft” fell more than 7% from the June period to 10.3 million by the end of the third quarter.

The game is a major contributor to Activision’s bottom line, with a large base of recurring revenue from monthly subscriptions. It is also believed to be the most vulnerable to competition from “Star Wars: The Old Republic,” an online, PC-based multi-player game set for release in December by Electronic Arts

Mike Morhaime, head of the company’s Blizzard division, said on the call that the majority of lost subscribers were “from the east,” likely referring to the company’s large base in China.

“China still represents more than half of our global player base and historically December has been a very good month for subscriber trends,” Morhaime said. “We have a number of initiatives planned. We plan to be very aggressive in terms of our marketing promotions and we’re looking forward to the end of the year.”

The videogame publisher also raised its forecast for the year, citing the strong launch of “Modern Warfare 3” as well as better-than-expected sales of a new property called “Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventures,” a toy-based game that went on sale last month.

No sales data were given on “Modern Warfare 3,” which also hit stores Tuesday. Analysts widely expect the game to be the industry’s best-selling title of the year — as was its two predecessors.

For the third quarter ended Sept. 30, Activision reported net income of $148 million, or 13 cents a share, compared with net income of $51 million or 4 cents a share for the same period last year. On a non-GAAP basis, net income for the recent quarter was 7 cents a share.

Revenue was $754 million. Accounting for deferred revenue from the sale of certain online-enabled game titles, net revenue for the third quarter would have been $627 million, down from $857 million last year.

Analysts had been expecting non-GAAP earnings of 2 cents per share on net revenue of $558.4 million, according to consensus estimates from Thomson Reuters.

Activision did not have any major game releases during the quarter. Results were driven primarily through the company’s digital side, which includes downloadable expansion packs for its “Call of Duty” franchise as well as its Blizzard unit, which owns popular, subscription-based online games such as “World of Warcraft” and “Starcraft.”

For the fourth quarter, which will include results from the retail launches of “Modern Warfare 3” and “Skylanders” and other games, Activision said it expects net revenue of $2.17 billion with earnings of 55 cents a share, on a non-GAAP basis.

Analysts had been expecting revenue of $2.1 billion with earnings of 53 cents a share for the period.

For the full fiscal year, Activision said it now expects net revenue of $4.25 billion, compared with its prior forecast of $4.18 billion. Non-GAAP earnings are now expected to come in around 85 cents a share compared with the previous forecast of 68 cents a share.

Both WoW guilds I'm in have had steady attrition of late. Not people jumping ship to other guilds, just getting bored of WoW and doing something else. I might keep my sub going through Christmas, but I have to admit I'm rather done with it, at least for now.
