Warhammer Online / Did you know?
« on: November 12, 2008, 09:40:00 AM »

I find new things out about WAR everyday,  heres a couple you might not know!

  • When you visit a Merchant and wish to dye your items,  if you left-click on a colour it will dye the primary colour of an item. If you right-click a colour, it will allow you to dye the secondary-part of that item.
  • In order to dye your cloak,  take off all your clothes except Cloak,  tick the "Dye All Items" tickbox then select the colour you want.
  • Logging off in a Warcamp or Chapter-camp will give you increased rested-XP.

Please add anything you will think is useful :)

Warhammer Online / How to pronounce your toon!
« on: November 07, 2008, 08:17:09 AM »

Hey guys (its me, the random post guy!)

I remember spending about a year playing WoW before finally getting TS setup for guild,  only to find that I was pronouncing peoples toons wrong and they were pronouncing mine completely wrong..

So I thought it might be good idea for us to attempt to explain the pronunciation

Warhammer Online / Pots for PVP!
« on: November 06, 2008, 12:38:56 PM »
Ay'up guys,

Don't know if you guys had realised or not,  but it IS possible to use Potions in PVP/Scenarios..

http://www.wardb.com/item.aspx?id=157869

With Pots out there doing 1500 instant heals (at 40),    you'd be daft not to carry some around with you..

Lets admit,   money in this game is stupid..       So this is definitely something worth spending some of that huge fortune on :)

The pots have saved my lives quite a few times, which means I dont miss out on that XP/Renown I would of done by being dead and running back!!

Note:   There are also Pots to increase Toughness, Strength,  you name it..

Warhammer Online / Scenario Teamplay - Calculating contribution
« on: October 31, 2008, 02:59:39 PM »
Thought I'd have a slight rant, while getting your opinions on somethings that upsets me..

If I came out and said,  the only true TEAM-WORKING in a Scenario PUG is the fact that Healers are healing everyone,   then I don't think I'd be far wrong..  (slight exception may be RP's who resurrect)

As an example,  Engineers have choice of 2 Morale abilities for Rank-2

1)    Increases your damage by 100% for 7 seconds
2)    Decreases all damage your Group takes by 20% for 15 seconds..

I'm no saint, but I'd be thinking to myself..

Option 1 is going to improve my DPS,   therefore improve my Renown and XP..
Option 2 isn't..   although it might mean we win the game..

This is my core point for this thread...        The difference between doing something with measurable contribution and doing something that might win you the game...

I think the same logic can be used for nearly every single utility ability in the game..

From Abilities that drain the enemies AP's,   lower resistances,  lower AR migration or anything like that..

When I played on my Arch-Mage,   I very rarely used the Action-point drain ability..    I just didn't seem to find the time to use it..        I'll also admit that it has no clear contribution to my "Damage Caused", "Healing done"..      So maybe at the back of my mind its not something I consider ..

Do you think the Magus casting the root was to stop everyone, so people could DPS them down,   or do you think he was doing it to save himself?   I'm going to say the latter...

Are you like me?      Do you do everything in those 15 minutes to maximise your DPS or to do as much healing as possible?

That is definitely my priority for majority of the time,   however I will look out for opportunities on how I can help people.

On my Engineer in MT,  I will use Barb-wire when I see the Bauble-holder is running my way and he's being chased...

On my WP in TA,  I will attempt to resurrect Tanks,   because I know how important they are to making advances...

So why is all of this?     Is it because we're selfish buggers?    or is it because Mythic put a Scoreboard at the end of the Scenario, and we're all so god damn competitive?

I'll hold my hands up and say that I will always look after myself first when I'm on my Engineer...

On my WP,  I have been known to sacrifice myself a few times, so that someone can survive...       I'll use my Rank-1 morale ability to keep a Tank up,  knowing that if I don't cast it on myself that I'll die within seconds..

So without annoying anyone or accusing people...

How do you feel about this?      What sort of utilities don't you use?       What examples of team-play are you proud of?

The key purpose here is to find out a LOT of details about the other careers in this game,  by looking at the abilities you don't often see...         Its also to try and understand the difficulties that careers have in using these abilities..

I think overall contribution would greatly improve if we all knew what everyone else does and how we could help them..

Discuss :)

Warhammer Online / Engineer - The life of a suicide-bomber
« on: October 31, 2008, 02:00:17 PM »
Firstly I apologise if the title offends anyone,  its too be taken as a joke, and its probably the best way I can describe my experience as an Engineer!

So I thought I'd do a career writeup for a class that I completely love...

Engineer interested me from the beginning,  but after starting with my WP,   I quickly replaced those interests with fears..      The Engineer class appeared to have low-survival,  low-dps and was almost a comedy-class with gimmicks..

My first experiences of engineers were a rare-breed of RDPS peps,  standing at the back of the pack,  next to his trusted turret and spamming his "Shoot" button..        After the smoke faded,  these engineers were doing worse DPS than the tanks and so I was truly put-off..

But how wrong I was... and I can't begin to say how amazing this class truly is..

My first assumption about this class was that is was a Single-point Ranged DPS class..      I now realise that this is the course of a Mastery-tree called Rifleman....   but nothing like the common "Grenadier" mastery-tree, that the majority of Engineers prefer Pre-T4.

Engineers are in-fact the Gods of AE dmg,    they have so many AE options they cause you to lag due to the huge streams of figures rising from the head of all your victims..

Acid Bomb -  Does AE dmg over 20 feet for 21 seconds
Friction Burn - AE Cone effect for 30 feet,  doing DoT over 9 seconds to each
Blunderbuss Blast - Instant DD AE upto 40 feet.
Frag Grenade - Does AE Dmg over 20 feet for 15 seconds
Land Mine -  DD to all within 30 feet and knockdown for 2 seconds
Napalm Grenade - Static AE dmg, intensifying over time for 30 seconds
Strafing Run - AE Cone DD upto 65 feet
Sticky Bomb - DD effect with DD AE effect on completion over 20 feet
Static Discharge - Instant AE DD over 30 feet
Grenade Turret - Does AE dmg

I'm currently Rank 19 and I've got Acid Bomb, Frag Grenade and Friction burn running all the time..      I'm using Landmines everytime it comes off CD (15 secs) and I've got my Grenade-turret firing away..

The amount of AE dmg that Engineers can put out is scary!

I've managed to top Tier-2 damage charts constantly through this AE dmg..     I've just started Tier-3, but I'm confident nothing will change.

Now you probably wonder why I said "Suicide bomber",  well unfortunately while some of these abilities are instant with decent range,    some are not..         I find myself getting just outside of melee range every 20 seconds or so,   just so I can keep my AE Cone abilities rolling.....  getting my Landmine and Turret replaced.          This is where the suicide comes in..          If you can get in and out without being snared,  you're fine!    However if you are trapped...        Its a bad outlook for you....      If you do manage to get out though...    you can now sit back for a bit and enjoy the firework show of dmg numbers from all over the screen!

Changing subject slightly,   I'm sure you've all heard of the Electromagnet,  its generally what people now associate Engineers with..

In my personal opinion,  this is a large mistake and moving out of the grenadier mastery tree is the worst thing could do as our AE dmg is what makes us powerfull.....   not a 20 CD Gimmick..

I will admit that I've got no experience with either the Rifleman or Tinkering tree's, but based on general concensus on the forums,  I see no reason why you'd bother...

Moving on!     So RVR is crazy,  mental,  fast-paced and a hell of a lot of fun.

PVE?  Well there are no negative points here!         Again, we are Gods of AE..

I'm constantly pulling 3-4 mobs,   using my AE and using ma trusty shotgun (blunderbuss) or firebomb grenade to burn them down..

I find this to be extremely efficient and I'm grinding through the PVE sections much faster than my Warrior-Priest ever did..

OK, so on to Survival..

Engineers suffer a lack of armor and generally low HP's,    but its not all doom-n-gloom!      We have an amazing root skill..   "Barb-wire"..    Its instant and its saved my life more times than I can remember!      Its basically the same as that annoying Purple-thing that Magus do to us...     So you can appreciate how annoying it is!

We also get an early knockback,    and I'm really enjoying my golf games in TA at the moment!

There are a few nifty-tricks down our sleeves too,    Landmine has a knockdown,  Concussion grenade has a decent knockback/DD,  we can even Self-destruct our turrets,  knocking down players for 5 seconds..    which is very powerful!

So to summarise..

I listed 10 AE abilities above,   that is a HELL of a lot of dmg!

While our single-target DPS is very poor (as grenadier at least),   we can put a LOT of pressure on enemy healers from the constant AE damage..

I don't suggest anyone starts an Engineer if you want solo kills,    I think its next to impossible on an Engineer..

Neither should you start if you want large numbers..

I see 30-100 damage all the time, but in the 100's... and that really adds up...     I believe that Engineers are very close to BW/Sorc in terms of overall damage capability..      with their utility on board..     They really should not be ignored!!

Note:   In the same way a WoW Warlock would Dot someone up before dying,  many a time I've died in RvR only to run back seeing the damage still flowing from those DoTs...

So come join in,   I can guarantee that you'll enjoy this class :)

The Dog & Duck / The golden years revisited!
« on: October 29, 2008, 12:07:20 PM »
Hey guys,

When I found this yesterday, I have to admit that a little bit of wee came out!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ScummVM

Some of the my earliest and greatest memories are associated with the games that this emulator supports..

In fact I personally think anyone who hasn't heard of "Monkey Island" should be kicked from the guild for lack of proper education!

My personal favourites have to be..

"Beneath the Steel Sky" -    Amazing storyline!   Just amazing...
"Day of the Tentacle" -  Oh just wow..
"The Secret of Monkey Island"...
"Simon the Sorcerer"  - Asparagus jelly anyone?
"Lure of the Temptress"

And what is better..    if not..  just too good to be true!..

You can port this Emulator on to so many different platforms..

I have it working on my iPhone,  my PSP and I would of got it on my Wii if I had it modded!!

I'm taking an indefinite break from Warhammer while I relive my early-years!   (when until the 80's graphics burn a hole in my brain!)

PS.   If anyone needs to find the game-files for any particular game,    message me in-game or go to your favourite torrent site :)

ENJOY!

Warhammer Online / Uniting Order
« on: October 23, 2008, 08:30:49 AM »
This is very much a "nice on paper, probably fail entirely in practice",  but thought I'd see what people thought..

Now that we're beginning some kind of "scheduled" keep-raid in T2/T3,     I was thinking about how many raids you'd need to do to keep the entire 3 empires locked down.

In my opinion, with the new keep changes (made it a lot more difficult right?), then potentially then Keeps are only going to be switching hands maybe 1-3 times a week?

So here's the mad suggestion..

What if HoJ (ie Beo) was to approach the other guild leaders (or alliance leaders) and suggest some kind of UNITED schedule for raiding keeps..

If HoJ were assaulting a Keep with 2 WB's every week,  with other guilds/alliance doing the same on the other days..

Then potentially,  we've got an amazing war effort going on..

I'm sure someone in the future will propose something similar,    so I thought HoJ might want to lead the way!

Warhammer Online / Bye î ... welcome E!
« on: October 10, 2008, 08:18:21 AM »

Hello!   All that have tried to invite me to a party will know the frustration with my special î

Which involves doing Alt-0238 to make the damn thing and invite me..

Therefore I went to Mystic and asked very nicely if they could amend my name,    I was refused..

However after going back and pointing out 3 places where my special character actually causes a bug in the PQ/Scenario screens,   they re-considered...

After much hoo-haa of last night.      When the first GM told me to re-log and completly failed to make the change or get back in contact with me...

The GM who was obviously more awake this morning has DONE IT!

Therefore..   I am now..... ENVICTA with no special characters!

Thought i'd mention it,  incase you wondered who I was or thought you were going mad :)

Warhammer Online / Tor Anroc - Strategy
« on: October 08, 2008, 02:52:16 PM »

Whether you love it or hate it,     at some point everyone is going to end up in "Tor Anroc" and so I was interesting in what people think the overall best strategy is.

In my opinion,   I think where Order go wrong for the majority of the time,    is that we retreat back to our base.

I can see the logic, where the closer you are to our rez-point the quicker reinforcements can support us..

However 2 really big issues with that

1.  The biggy,    you lose that bauble and suddenly you've got a whole load of Destruction between you and that bauble.

2.  Getting pinned into a corner invites AE attacks and Knockbacks = Bad

So where do I suggest?    I think we should turtle on top of the mount (Bauble rez point) with the Bauble carrier slightly behind us..

Due to the cliff-type edge,  you eliminate the LoS for AE attacks (from Ranged DPS).

Unfortunately you're probably putting yourself in a worst position for Knockbacks,  but I really don't see a solution where we can ever avoid that.

Order manage a similar type thing (minus the lava) in the lost temple scenario and we do a fantastic job of turtling!

Note:    is there anywhere in TA where you can put your back to a wall?   If so,  potentially you can make the Bauble-carrier immune to Knockbacks?    I can only think of 2 places,    each being in the separate bases.

Additionally to this,   if you don't have the bauble then PACE is the real killer weapon..

I can't get over what an impact you can have on the enemy if they feel you're approaching too quickly,    they really do feel the only option is to retreat..          So even if we're putting ourselves in a potentially suicidal position,  we need that charge...       Put them on the back leg and keep forcing them back....     Eventually you'll topple them..

Note:    Taken from an intelligent lady yesterday,   if you ever did manage to get into there base where they were Turtling and capture the Bauble,    immediately jump into the lava and kill yourself,  returning the bauble to the centre position!!

Feedback and comments welcome!

Warhammer Online / Warrior Priest - So misunderstood!
« on: October 08, 2008, 12:15:54 PM »
Hey guys,

I thought i'd give my opinion on Warrior-Priests,  because I learn something everyday about other careers and thought i'd share some insights for all you people who are yet to explore the world of Melee healing :)

Obviously we're in the Priest family,   although we really should be sitting on the fence between the Warrior and the Priest families...

One of things I find most people don't understand about Warrior-Priests is how different we are to both the AM and RP.

For both the AM and RP,    they use Action-points (AP) for their healing spells,   and since AP's refill in time (very quickly!),  they are able to continue spamming these without needing to do anything else . (I appreciate AM has a weird mechanic thats discussed elsewhere if you're interested!)

However the WP uses their AP for Melee abilities and our own resource named "Righteous Fury" for our healing/utility abilities.

The general mechanic is quite simple,     you donk someone over the head and you generate X Righteous fury.   The main attack ability is "Bludgeon" and will generate 30 Fury,   with a maximum of 250 Fury to be collected.      Fury DOES regenerate over time, but you need to be OOC and its very slow!

So for an example..       I've just started TA in Tier-3,   I start with 250 Fury, I'm charging towards the enemy and I start firing off my healing spells ..          Very quickly I'll be down to low Fury and i'll be unable to cast another spell..         I now have 2 options..           I either hit someone or I use an ability called "Supplication" which will convert AP->Fury over 3-5 seconds (generates about 150 fury)

Now i'm not a fan of Supplication,    so I prefer to get up close and personal and donk some heads...

Doing even a little DPS can quickly regenerate your fury bar back...

This is not common knowledge I feel,     as I constantly have people jumping in front of me wondering why i'm not healing them...          its normally because i've just had to spam 3-4 heals together and I'm now running on empty...     Warrior Priests are designed to top-up peoples health with our HoTs...     We're not designed to rescue you from 5% health.

Now the WORST thing for a WP is a Retreat..        because it involves lots of healing and no DPSing (unless your suicidal),      So you shouldnt expect a lot from us during this time..     Unless we can find a "safe" area and use supplication.

But on the counter of that...  the BEST situation for a WP is ATTACKING!..         Let us be up the front with the Tanks, hitting things and we'll have more than enough Fury to keep these Group heals/Shields and HoT's flowing..

So now a quick look at what a Warrior-Priest can bring to a fight..

I can only give comments on the Salvation (healing) tree,     but based on forums,   it would appear that the majority of us have gone this way..

Group Healing -   We have a fantastic Group heal,   150 foot range,  1sec cast and 2sec CD..    It consumes a fair amount of Fury but its the core of my healing at the moment.      To complement this,  we have a Group HoT (via Talents) that is instant-cast with 10sec CD.     Both of these combined results in 90% of my healing.

Direct Healing -   Unfortunately we dont have one!    I don't have a single large heal,      I only have a single-target HoT and a castable HOT with a small front-loaded heal (nothing impressive!)

Melee-based healing -   This is where we shine..    Divine Assault,   an amazing ability where you hit the Enemy 4 times,   each time doing 250% of the damage as healing to your defensive target.    I love this ability,   it can easily do 1200 healing at 26 and has saved numerous lives.

Utility -   We bring a number of Prayers to the group,  these ranged from +Armor,  25% chance for Heal on dmg,  25% chance for extra dmg when dpsing.

Shield -   Our shield is quite impressive,  its a group-cast, so every single team-member benefits from it.

So that's about it..

We're very capable melee fighters,     with fantastic survival from our heals..

Point us towards the enemy, charge and we'll throw out some impressive heals while continuing the face-smashing-pain!..

However if we're retreating or there is a stalemate (2 sides doing ranged DPS over no-mans-land),  then please give us some sympathy as we're probably running dry and can't really help you!

It should be noted that due to our lack of direct-heals,   if you run at us with 5% health,  even if we do have full fury,  then its very unlikely we're going to save your life because our HoTs won't soak up any burst damage thats going to end your life...       We prefer to Top-up peoples health, than to rescue you :)

Also this is my opinion and might not be shared with all WP's, but were not Raid-friendly healers.   Our heals are group-based which mean its very easy to simply focus on your group and ignore everything else.     I will throw my instant HoT on anyone I see when running into battle,  but mid-combat the only people who will benefit from my heals are my group as i'll be using my Group Heal/HoT in the vast majority of cases, although Battleground objective people are an exception,  so are our Tanks who are nearby.

Cheers,

Invicta (Rank 26 Warrior Priest - and LOVING it!)

Characters & Classes

Invicta - Warrior Priest (Rank 19, Renown Rank 15)

I maintained an equal RR until recently when the queues fell to pieces and Order started resembling headless chickens :)

Age: 28

Location: Cambridge , England

Timezone: GMT

Gaming Style:

When I first joined Warhammer,  I said i'd do exactly what I did with WoW,   where I'd level every "interesting" class to 15 and then decide what to play!

Well that didn't really happen and I've found myself addicted to my Warrior-Priest!

I would say I was a bit of MMORPG addict,     I played WoW for some 5 years since it went Beta and in that time I probably max'd out about 9 characters (5 on Horde, 4 on Alliance)

While I am very much focused on PVP,   I find myself able to grind the PVE-scene in order to progress through the game..       At times I feel like a robot,  mindlessly grinding away like I was being paid to do it..  (oh I wish!),  therefore my character choices are mostly suited to PVP.

in WoW I went for the amazing Warlock class,   followed by a Druid (PVP huh? Crazy-man!!) and then a Paladin ...

So in Warhammer i'm following on from the love of my Paladin,   going for a strong-survival class that can provide "offensive support" in PVP...     I Warrior-Priest fits job perfectly..

So to summarise..       PVP = GOOD

About me:

Riggghttt..        I'm a geek,  the best kind..     the pure-bred IT professional geek..           Mixed in with all the typical-geeky things...   Sci-Fi,  Metal rock and RPGs..     I'm very much the definition of the known generalisation ..  So woohoo!

I have an amazing girlfriend who is studying for exams and currently turns-a-blind-eye to my excessive 5-11pm playing schedule..         I can turn it off... honest.... but just give me 5 mins ok?      Make it... 10..

Not a lot else I can say without either boring you or making you cry :)

Oh one of the best things about MMORPG's is when you can duo/pvp with friends and I dont think either WoW or Warhammer would be the fun,    if it wasn't for my RL mate who plays here and is addicted as I am .     (He recently joined - Torgal)

Currently Loves : Battlestar Galactica, Heroes... Sci-fi books..     Ma 2 black Labradors!!..     Wasting time at work bitching with my mate about Warhammer loves/hates/tactics

Currently Tolerates :  Lost (if i ever designed a series, it would turn out very much the same.... random!)

Currently Hates : Religious nuts,   British Soaps (not dove.. its got creamy goodness!),  ASP.NET Arrays (Sorry, but it occupied me for 5h's on Friday!),  Dog pooh,    Virgin Media,  the A14 (you'd know the road if you were lived in East-Anglia).

Questions for us?

When can we start some PVP and bash some Destruction nobs?
