I'll wager its more likely the fact that they're nowhere near ready to handle the numbers.

A worrying issue this close to release. And they've probably deliberatly got the website/forums offline to avert the nerdrage :D

bahh the day any MMO launch goes smoothly ill stop playing them ;)

but theyd better get servers up soon or else ill get bored and do something else.

LOTRO was smooth (iirc anyways, I had no issues). But idd with your point - MMOs and Smooth launch dont mesh well.
