Title: He shoots he scores! Bloodbowl the game!
Post by: Mangala on April 07, 2009, 05:48:24 PM
http://www.bloodbowl-game.com/

Beta registration is up too:

http://www.bloodbowl-game.com/beta_registration/index.php

The game is a combination of a Wargame and a sports game The basics are extremely simple: two teams, one ball. The team that carries the ball into the opponent's end zone scores a touchdown, the team with the most touchdowns at the end of the game is the winner. However, it’s how you decide to do this that makes things interesting, the ends justify the means! It’s not just the players you have at your disposal either. You can bribe the referee’s to look the other way as you cripple or trample annoying opponents and hire illegal wizards to give you a hand directly from the crowd… Blood Bowl severely tests the finest tacticians' strategies
There are many races to accommodate every player’s profile and even more strategies for experimenting. Winning a game requires a strong game-sense and a lot of self-control.
For the player's enjoyment, omnipresent humor and the use of spells, weapons, and other non-regulatory means place Blood Bowl outside of the classic sport simulation genre.

I played that once at a friend's place while waiting for the rain to clear. (They had invited me over to help them dig up the ground for a vegetable patch in their back yard. Afterwards they fed me butterbean lasagne.) Only had orcs and humans though, I think. Looks like you get to play a lot more races in this.

Been drooling over this for years now... I still take part in table-top BB tournaments (altough I seem to fare worse now under 5th ed rules wher all my favourite exploits have been patched :P) every now and then, but back in the University where we had a league I played BB at least five games every week. I've tried to recruit the core of old BB group we had back then, and I think we will be there but not as many as I would like to see. If we get a BB group going here, I'll point them to come this way :)

Well, the NDA does not allow much to be said, so I am not going to post anything that breaches that. This section of the forum can after all be viewed by anybody (including bots) and I certainly do not wish to shoot my own foot :)

Anyway, many things are public knowledge already. The game uses the official GamesWorkshop LRB5 rules (http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1310002_BB_Complete_Blood_Bowl_Rulebook.pdf), so very easy to jump in for somebody familiar with the board game. Also, LRB5 rules are the result of 20 years of playing, so I for one claim them to be quite balanced :)

Not all teams are available at this phase, which is ok. The purpose of this phase is to test how the game server handles many games going on, so there is less of that looking for perfect team to trash, and more actual playing :)

The graphics are great and functional. The music is great, altough there is not that much of it; yet very thematic and gets you into the spirit of th game. The sound-effects are great; for example there is no doubt of when a turn-over happens.

There are some things with the UI that took a moment to figure out (double-right clicking to activate most things must be a French thing, first time I've encountered that :D), also there are some keyboard short-cuts (in case you are in beta, press N and/or G to cycle through different things;  those short-cuts are not yet (AFAICS) not mentioned anywhere but had a huge impact for me).

Chatting is done by typing, and for me it was not the perfect tool. It is ok, but it is not that great tool for socialising. With the 4 minute rule time is quite short, and at least I didn't have time to type anything in the chat box while plotting my moves. Conversations thus were quite hilarious: Complete your turn and type a lot in the chat box, to get replies 4 minutes later when the opponent has finished his turn (and when you don't have time to type anymore). Chatting by typing works fine between strangers, but when I'll play with friends (the released product, that is) I'll be using some VOIP system during games. Beer and chatting are after all crucial parts of Blood Bowl :)

In all, it is in much better shape than I did believe it to be :)  I am very exited (and tired, having slept under 5 hours last night...).

Heh, looking at the official FAQ at http://www.cyanide-studio.com/forumBB/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=183 I notice there are some things mentioned there that I refrained from posting above :D

Ie there are only human and orc teams available for the new wave of testers (but there are other teams in the ladder, ie those teams that have been in the beta before this phase). I personally rolled a cookie-cutter human team called Marienburg Marvels (say hi if you see me in the lobby) with 1 passer, 1 catcher, 1 blitzer, 1 ogre, 8 linemen, 3 Rerolls and Fanfactor 8.

Btw, Jim and Bob sound like I have always imagined they would :)

EDIT: Sheesh my spelling sucks again...

Redemptionists was my gang (until the expansion Van Saar was my choice). Flamers, zealots, flamers, and some more flamers. Can't go wrong with flamers really ;)  Also, the Redemptionst gang I painted is one the best painted I ever succeeded to complete (usually I paint 5 minis at a time, then lose interest, and then when I continue the inspiration has changed; the Redemptionsts gang I painted completly in one sitting, so all the gang members actually have same colour-scheme :D ).

This beta ends on May 5th, so perhaps they are not sending out anymore keys for now? Which is sad, none of my BB gaming buddies have got a key either.

Anyway, hot damn the game feels good. Sorry to inform that to you people who are not in beta yet :(

Meanwhile, I still have to lose a game :) Five straight wins (1-0, 4-0, 3-0, 2-0, 3-1), but sadly the server has for some registered first one of those :(  Waah waah, no skillzzz for my players, I am a paying customer and I... errmm...

If you get in, and if it has been a while since you last played, if I may provide a couple tips for the teams you can roll (aka humans and orcs only).

Humans: IMO it is better to buy 3 rerolls, 1 blitzer and FF8 than to buy 2 rerolls, 4 blitzer and FF4.  Those missing Block skills will be sorely needed, but you'll be very happy for that extra reroll and the good kick-off events you should win with FF8 (the value of FF is much smaller in LRB5 than before, but IMO it still a pretty good thing to have it at decent figures :) ), so 4 re-rolls and FF3 might not be as disastrous as it first sounds (4 rerolls really would be *nice*!). The "pro-players" seem to advice to not take the ogre at start, but I disagree: Just put the big meanie standing there in the center creates a lot of space around him even if never throws a block; also the triple dice blitzes the Ogre can launch usually pretty damn good results (altough I have already succeeded once to throw double-skulls+both down, but happily my opponent suffered an immediate turn over after that :) )

Orcs: Do not go for the 4 Black Orcs at start, you will be facerolled because of these slow non-skilled monsters always being in the wrong place at the wrong time; instead go for more blitzers and rerolls, and for heavens sake include a gobbo in the line-up to give you some strategic depth (despite many "pros" suggesting that you should avoid gobbos (because they are so weak and puny) at start -> BAD ADVICE if you ask me) especially on the offence. The only TD scored against me was scored by a gobbo, they are *hard* to stop as a newbie team (no Tackle anywhere) and they'll cause constant headaches to the opponents. I mean the "Cage" tactics for orcs is soooo 90's and easy to stop before the ball ever crosses the midline if you know what you are doing :)  A semi-cage is much better: Form up a normal cage minus a gobbo and a blitzer who you send down the other flank, keeping them out of tackle zones if possible (so that the opponent has to decide wether to blitz the flankers or the cage, and a gobbo can easily dodge out of any tackle zones while a blitzer has to have to players or he will simply knock the lone opponent senseless (unless it happens to be a blitzer too, of course).

This is starting to look very nice. Hopefully the gameplay will be smooth.
Didn't see this until beta was closed... so meh.

If the game takes off, I hope GW will release a new range of mini's for the actual (by now) Specialist Blood Bowl table top game.

Yet boo to them for not including Halflings. Puggy's Porridge Legion for the win!
There's nothing better than hail marying Halflings into the end zone with your Treeman just to find out that they squish into pretty pink puddles on the grass. Good times.

So far I'm not the luckiest coach ;)
First game saw me down to 4 players at one point, with 2 permanent injuries, one of which was a -1 movement penalty to one of my catchers.
I hope it'll pick up later...  :-\

I hope you guys aren't playing the meat-sack tactics with humies against orcs. If you do, you will just get hurt. Remember you can dodge out, if the opponent can hit you with just a blitz, then the chances are high you won't suffer that hard :)  It is a tactical game after all :)  Sure, accidents happen, and anybody can be unlucky, but really, if you are down to four players on the field, then you have possibly not been playing in the most optimal way ;)

I'll admit I probably wasn't playing great - hey, I haven't played Bloodbowl since 2nd edition! Give me a break!  :P
Anyway, with around 60% failed armour checks I still blame bad luck, no matter how badly I played! :D

On a side note, anyone else getting "Error : Failed to establish connection" atm?

Hehe, I had an evening of great fun, and unbelievable bad luck.
To Warcold: I looked like Marcel with his dwarf army I guess.

I found orcs easier to manage than a human team, at least the injuries stopped (well, excepting my single thrower, which kind of forced me into a running game after 3 turns....)
I even had a good first half going, knocking out 5 humies and it should have ended 1-1, would I not have had an unlucky turnover in the last turn, making halftime come just too early.
Then in the second half, I was merrily mopping up the remaining defense, so I could run my blitzer through, when:
- My troll, with assistance from another orc, lost a block to a lone human lineman, causing an immediate turnover
- Another 3 orcs got knocked down in the next turn, 2 of them in equal blocks

....So I ran my goblin through (Look at that cretin go! He dodges one, two....he's through...and into the endzone!)

- And tossed a medium pass to equalize (5+, but there wasn't a human player near enough to pick up the ball, so I didn't really care if it'd be a loose ball in/near their endzone instead)
.......And fumbled it.

I guess it was just one of these nights.
But it was fun!  ;D

PS: On the connection thingie, resetting my modem helped for me.
PPS: Is the real-time thingie already in game? Haven't encountered the option  yet.

The connection problem happens. There were some rumours there is/was a bug by which scrupulous players can force the connection to the server to be "lost", ie they used it when losing. At least it did happen a lot more often last week, most of my games went un-recorded :(

The game is either a faithful LRB5 turn based game, or a "Blitz" mode. Blitz game is a bit like RTS games. Wether games are played as turn-based or blitz is set by the league GM, and the open league is turn-based. I can set up a blitz league if there is interest for testing it (I haven't seen it in action either), I think we should get four people in easily (from this forum and I'll mention it to my friends too).

BTW, don't block with ogres or trolls unless a possible turnover is something you can live with (and even then I try to get triple dice opportunities only :) ). I usually just let my Ogre stand there and look ugly and intimidating, and he draws attention; his team-mates love him for that :)  The Bone-Head/Really Stupid skills together with Loner and no Block is not such a good combo :D

Hmmm... Perhaps it is not possible to play in blitz mode then yet. I couldn't enter either, but I thought it is because I am the league comissioner (which wouldn't make that much sense actually).

0-2 to his humies, though one of his TDs was clearly a case of Cheating! A thrower with agi 4?! Rushing through a line of my best greenskins? Wots dat den?

Nice match Gunnarr :)  Don't mind about the injuries, only one severe injury, a rookie blitzer got ST-1, so nothing too bad :)

I promised I'll write a few notes for you (and perhaps others who are interested) about how to use blitz as an efficient tool, and some set-ups too. Also, I think you need to practise your "cage" set-up a bit better, I'll write s a few notes of that too. Now I'll lauch PAINT and hone my aw3zum  ::) computer painting skills, back in a moment :)
Title: Re: He shoots he scores! Bloodbowl the game!

Well, what the heck, there are some nice guides on the net too :)  Check the different guides at http://www.blood-bowl.net/Tactics/BBTactics.html  Btw, ignore the references to Fan Factor, FF was heavily "nerfed" for LRB5, so a starting FF of 3-4 is more than enough these days, and it usually means you'll get to buy an extra re-roll (then again, no point going over the top with rerolls, 3-4 is a good number IMO for a starting team, and more than 5 is certainly waste most of the time).

DEFENCE
Look at http://www.blood-bowl.net/Tactics/Orc_CarlBrown_WD175.htm

Check Diagram 3. It's the "classic" 3-4-3-1 defense vs humans, high elves and orcs. Also, you should, IMO, put on LoS (Line of Scrimmage) two black-orcs and the troll (as you have them :) ), and as shown in the diagram put the other two black orcs to guard the wide-zones (together with blitzers), and then have blitzers (plus one lineman) and the thrower in the centre.
However, I think you Gunnarr had a very nice set-up for the defence, just that you didn't mark my catcher properly (probably bwecause you were not aware you can move after you block with a blitz) and didn't notice my thrower has AGI 4 (and he rolled doubles after the game, so he has dodge too now; ie he is even more slinky now). I thus think your defence was pretty good.

OFFENSE
Again, look at http://www.blood-bowl.net/Tactics/Orc_CarlBrown_WD175.htm

Here you honestly did have some issues. In the above article, familiriase your self with "Da Stomp" and "Da Foola". Orcs have just two offensive plays in their playbooks, and you have to use them. Personally I favour "Da Foola", because goblins (with their Stunty) are very hard to stop. You *did* a pretty good job with crunching my players to the ground, but didn't capitalise on that, leaving the ball-carrier very alone to face my mean blitzers.

Ie, here comes the CAGE. The Cage, optimally if you ask me, require five players: four players placed on the corners next to the ball-carrier. The corners are important, because else a scrupulous bllitzer will run to that empty corner and knock your thrower senseless (one dice blocks are good vs throwers as they don't have block or dodge). Now, my awesome drawing skillzzzzz:

In the above diagram the cage (the ball-carrier is the red dot, the cage holders are the red circles) holds the corners around the ball-carrier. Nobody (except a wardancer, but there are no wood-elves at this stage of the test) can get to blitz your ball carrier without first having to make dodge roll with a hefty -3. Basically your ball-carrier is safe (except vs a deathroller, but there are no dwarfs at this phase of the test). If you however go with the cage as shown in the lower diagram, anybody can blitz your ball-carrier (as shown by the leet black arrows) from the corners; incidently this is exactly what did happen yesterday.

However, DO NOT go with the suggestion in the following article: http://www.blood-bowl.net/Tactics/offence_str.htm
You won't get anywhere, as the opposing team will each turn dodge one square back. There are 13 squares from the LoS to goal, and your thrower runs 5. It means you want make it in 8 turns (first turn you pick up the ball, second turn you run to the LoS, so you basically have just 6 turns to push through). An 8 or 9 player strong cage may sound awesome, but there really is nothing a 9 player cage can do better than a 5 player cage. Go out there and try to outflank, blitz through to get deeper, etc, while your cage slowly lumbers forwards. Then, on turn 7 or 8, you either are in a position to dash through with your ball-carrier, or able to pass (or hand-off!) to a waiting blitzer or goblin.

Now for the more difficult part to explain. How to use Blitz efficiently.

First of all, unlike in 2nd edition rules (where everybody could run and block, just couldn't sprint before blocking) there is only one blitz per turn. It is usually something spectacular, even if it first wouldn't appear so.

There are, in my opinion, very few "valid" uses for blitz. If it is not one of the following, then you prolly are using it just to hammer opponents (which can be good in many situations, but not usually).

1) To down opponent ball-carrier
2) To down a potential scorer (read: Catcher waiting for the pass)
3) To open up a path to the opponent ball carrier (so that other team members can put tackle-zones on the ball-carrier)
4) To open up a path to "flood" through in an offensive situation (wood elves, skaven and lizardmen will use this a lot (and others too when they are in a hurry or when they have skilled ball-handlers on the field): when there are four catchers waiting for the pass to run in the goal, who will the opponent stop?)
5) To get out of a tackle-zone instead of dodging (usually the ball-carrier is the blitzing toon then, but it can be a toon assisting the ball-carrier, altough it can be a big and strong low-agility player wanting to get next to the ball-carrier, etc), ie the classic blitzer (altough anybody else can do it too) move: Get the ball, blitz through, score a touchdown, celebrate.

Basically, IMO, if you use blitz to anything else, it probably isn't the most optimal case. Then again, especially if defending against a lumbering cage, it can be advisable to blitz down their "point" man, just to slow down the cage from rolling on.

Hard to give any good examples, this is something experience teaches I believe. One example (I guess) would be when I last night had the ball with a lineman, and he was surrounded by 3 orcs. I brought in another lineman (to remove opponent assists), then did run with a blitzer to a position from where he could assist, then blitzed him with the ball carrier and waved goodbye to the orcs. I'll try to make a diagram (alert: leet drawing skillzzz!)

In the above diagram the ball carrier (red dot) is surrounded by three opponent players (green dots). Not the best place to dodge out! Bring in two friendly players (marked with X), and blitz out (shown by the black arrows) without having to make a single dodge roll.

Boxed version comes out in September, when it will be available from Steam etc too. Unless you are French or German of course, they get the boxed versions now, rest of the world have to do with the digital download.

50 euros is pretty much, but I believe I will be playing BB *lots*. Besides, it is BB, so who cares what it does cost :D

I don't know about demos, I guess there will be one, at least eventually.

...and only being able to download it once, then having to save it to flash drive etc isnt digital distribution especially not at the price more than what i pay for any physical copy ive evr bought for my pc.

ill wait until it comes to steam or retail thank :)

Missing out on possible cool extras included in the box would be a pity. And 50 euro is kind of harsh for a digital download.
I think I'll wait until september for the box.

i succumbed in a moment of weakness, damn my game addiction and it is sweeet

reports of it overheating comps though according to whiners on forum :)

1 game i had my dorf team vs another dorf team no one could pick up ball ,stupid dorfs, so it turned into a slugfest around the ball with a war of attrition as half of each team was laid out on the ground for a full half :D

I'll be setting up a private league during next weekend or so with people from Pdox servers. There will be people who have been in WAR with HoJ, so might be an idea to join forces :)  I thought about a league for 8 teams for a start, should be over fast even if things do not go too stellar (with two divisions of 4 teams in each and 1 league match per week, the preliminary round will be over in  three weeks and then the play-offs).

Didn't see one at the post-purchase screen either.

Pirate Bay going alright. 71% after 4 hours. Slowed down a bit now.
Piss poor usability tbh. Just stick a download button on the website. Apparently no one has been able to crack the game anyway.

Kudos where kudos is deserved, they answered my support email during the weekend at 8:20am this morning.

Hoping to get in a couple of games against the AI to find a team that suits my playing style. I hoped it would be dwarfs (<3), but they can't pass a ball if their beards depended on it. And the death roller gets sent off if you use it. Bollocks. Wood Elves add more drama to the game than Ronaldo. So I'm currently trying Lizardmen... but I seem to remember they're a bit overpowered. Even though medium AI still whoops my ass.

True, they are overpowered in the category "Sucks donkeyballs"   ;D

Early on (until TR 1300 or so) the strongest team is Dwarf by far, then the woodies become the strong team (unless the coach insists on hoarding all SPP to the wardancers and cathcers) around TR 1400-2000 until finally the reign of Chaos starts at Team ratings above 2100 or so. "Strong" used as in "winning the most games".

It's made of Astrogranite™, according to the flyer inside!

(Actually, no. Seems like it's being released as a budget title for non-budget money either way. No collector's editions that I could find. Guess the release is being done the French way ("Met de franse slag" as we say in NL - meaning quickly tossed together, and not very well done...like the European WAR release for example)  :P

Edit: But at -10 euro, I won't complain about just getting a cd and a booklet in a plastic folder....

Blood Bowl (and DUNGEON Bowl :D) was always one of the most awesome but least played games at our old gaming club. Such a shame. Now you can play it with the world and don't even have to worry about your models' paint chipping. :)

This whole connection issue is driving me insane though. Zone Alarm is wide open for Blood Bowl and the two required router ports are forwarded.
I've now written a rather lengthy email to support@bloodbowl-game.com, including a dxdiag and all four log files they ask you to send when you have technical issues. I hope to hear from them soon.

Taking the router out of the equasion seems to help somewhat. I actually succeeded in saving my team once out of five tries, and I was able to chat in the public chat box. I could also finally see people in my friends list, Swuul included. But I still keep losing connection with pretty much everything I do. So the router definitely isn't at the root of the problems.

Fingers crossed. =(

PS: Is there room for a 'Blood Bowl' field in our profile information? =P

Teeheehee. :D

He'll join the Dark side soon enough.
Especially as there is no collector's edition.
And he cannot help but acknowledge that itchy, tingly feeling he gets in his fingers.
Every time he lies awake at night thinking about us playing Blood Bowl.
Having the time of our lives (connection issues not included).
Beating up elves and skaven. Wreaking bloody havoc.
Kicking players into the crowds just to have them pummeled to death.

Oh yes... he will fold.

Once again Focus customer service replied relatively quickly.
The advice was to update my graphics and audio drivers.

New patch should fix some/many of the connection issues.

Quote
PROBLEMS FIXED BY 1.0.1.6 PATCH:

- Fixed cases of match save corruptions, players should now be able to recover most of previously not working match saves
- Improved the multiplayer invitation system in order to help players with port issues
- Journeymen and mercenaries will not lose their Loner Skill anymore when loading a saved match
- Fixed rare cases where the AI could launch the ball more than once in the same turn

It doesn't for me.

I've updated my video and audio drivers as they suggested, even though I don't see the connection (Get it? Connection?! Oh dear).
Problems remain. And now I have the added bonus of getting a connection error as soon as I even try to login as a coach.

I've asked them for other solutions or a refund. I have little faith they'll ever give into the latter.
Apparently a friend of one of my friends has the same issue and it's driving him insane as well.

Started a claim through PayPal after reading the Blood Bowl forums and seeing countless others with the same issues.
Can't be bothered with this type of thing. Although I doubt PayPal will lift a finger for such a small amount of money.
If I can get my money back, wehey. If I can't, I'll just resort to angry blog posts instead.

If they provide me with a solution I'll just resort to being happy instead.
Started out great, but turned into a shitpile.

I two hours yesterday evening trying to help my friend solve his connection problems; he was not able to log on to the MP lobby except occasionally.

I asked him several times to deinstall the game from /Program Files, and reinstall to for example c:/Games/BB
Finally he did that, and the game started to work like a charm. Seems like Vista (64 bit) messes up the game installation real good if it's installed to /Program Files. Although his firewall settings were a bit too draconian too, he got absolutely nowhere until his fire-wall settings were toned down a bit.

Personally I've had zero techical problems with the game. For my sons computer the firewall settings had to be changed a bit, took maybe five minutes to fix.

I two hours yesterday evening trying to help my friend solve his connection problems; he was not able to log on to the MP lobby except occasionally.

I asked him several times to deinstall the game from /Program Files, and reinstall to for example c:/Games/BB

Apart from the fact that I despise the creators for not solving the obvious multiplayer connection issues too many people are having...

Just had the most awesome game in a single player semi-final against Skaven. Won 4-2. 1 Skaven dead and 5 badly hurt. 2 Dead on my team, 1 merc and 1 lvl 2 skink. Ridiculously fast paced game and admittedly quite thrilling, as most of the time Skaven score out of nowhere.

At the end of the match my Kroxigor and two saurus dudes levelled, so now I have 5 saurus with Block.

I still hate them for not being able to play online though. :P

Well, I might have opted to list it under fantasy tactical games, if there is such a classification :)

So.. Dark Elves are playable now.
http://bloodbowl-game.com/index.php?rub=news-info&id=118

Big whoop. Does anyone know if everyone can actually play online in multiplayer now, or have they still not fixed the issue.
I just ran the game and all it said was that my version of the game isn't supported. No auto update?

I hereby resurrect this thread from the land of dewmcakes!

I wanted to reinstall Blood Bowl. I'm actually selling off my GW stuff at the moment and I'm also getting a new pc (for real this time. Honest!). Anyhooples, now Blood Bowl won't even run on my old laptop. The gf and her sister who's living with us since a few days ago were out and I installed Blood Bowl on the gf's pc. Had an awesome sauce sp match that I wanted to share:

Last man/Dark Elf standing, my skinky going for the 4th touchdown.

Poor elfy in his final turn. I tried to kill him as well, but alas. He ended up on his tummy.

Match stats

Does anyone still play? Hopefully I'll finally be able to get online this time around. Different pc, different internet provider and no more separate router.

Prepare for Team Taco! For I will be back with some i7 processing, 6gb mem, 2gb vid mem and 2tb drive space powarrrrr in approx 1,5 week!

In the league with my friends we have summer break for July and August. So next season will begin in September. So to answer your question, yes I still play, but not right now.

Of course also eagerly waiting for the new Blood Bowl which will have all the teams in it :)

I take it that its a version of the game with extra bells and whistles?

if so I'll probably it up :)

It'd be awesome to start a little HOJ league! HAven't gotten around to playing online yet, even though I seem to be able to now.

I'd be willing to join that :)  If it is possible to admin more than one leage in LE then I can admin it too, if it is just one admined league per player as has been so far, then I will not be able to do that (as I am admining the league I have going on with my friends).

If you want to try out the online game, then lets settle for a date and time, and lets have a practise game; at least you will find out if your firewall and router settings allow you to play BB online  :)

Now? :P

Shame to see they seem to have turned Halflings into a bunch of useless turds. They can dodge and pass like a mofo in the boardgame. :(

I am at work now, and I have a game scheduled for when I get home. How about later in the afternoon, like 17 CET?

As far as I can see the halflings (as well all the other races too; which btw sucks, I personally believe human catchers should have STR 3 and humie blitzers should have access to agility skills too -> humans are supposed to be the best Blood Bowl race because of their adaptivity, but in reality they suck so hard it hurts because they are not strong enough nor agile enough) are exactly like they are in the latest board-game rules, so no difference there.

Those who did pre-order the Legendary Edition from Cyanide before October 20th got to download the game yesterday for Single Player gaming. The Internet gameservers are down for a week except for beta testing (betas and those who pre-ordered from Cyanide may participiate in the beta MP testing).

I played yesterday a Single Player game, and checked out the MP lobby interface.

Short review:
It is awesome :)

A bit longer review:
The main screen is clear now. You can check from options which skills you want to always be automatically used (like for example, you will always want to use Accurate even though it is according to the rule-books voluntary), which skills you want to manually choose (like for example Grab) and which skills you never want to use (can't think of any); the skills which you always have to use (like Frenzy or Bonehead) can't be toggled, just those which are according to the rulebook you may choose to use. All the skills of LRB6 are in the game now, which is a mega-improvement over the older version.

I played one game in SP yesterday with a Nurgle team, and I didn't notice any bugs. The missing features (Bloodweiser Babes, weather, missing skills and players (like Goblin bombardier)) are in now. The game uses LRB6 rules now which nerfs dwarfs and wood elves, but on the other hand makes passing game more lucrative (especially for AGI3 teams; a definitive boost to Humans and somewhat of a boost for Orcs, Skaven, Norse and Amazons). Compared to the older computer version of BB teams like Chaos and Dwarves will have a much more harder time, because there are now even harder hitting teams around (but Ogres, Nurgle and the various undead teams are really slow and bad with the ball, so against more agile and faster teams they suck).

In MP lobby the interface is much improved. You don't have to be French to understand the logic, things are obvious now. The first humongous improvement hits the face when you log in to the game servers: The game now remembers your login and password, *and* Enter works (so you do not have to attempt to click that miniscule OK button anymore)! In the lobby chat rolls in a separate window, friends & coaches are in another window, while you can check out teams, leagues, mail etc in a third window: All three windows are viewable at the same time now!

In all, I was pleasently suprised :) Cyanide has a history of making wonderful things with some mega-annoying quirks. I didn't stumble on such quirks now (of course, in the game the same logic as before is in effect, but that is fine now -> for example would hate to re-learn how to move in the game now that the movement system in the game is fianlly a spinal activity for me :) ).

Excellent! Lets get some games going once I am back from reservist training* :)

*Yeah, I still got a call in to training, although because I am over 40 I wouldn't have to go if I didn't want to. Then again, I am possibly quite a freak because I actually like being called to reservist trainings. It's so completely different from what I do otherwise, it's basically one week vacation :)
