Yesterday (http://www.boingboing.net/2008/12/10/happy-birthday-doom.html) was the 15th anniversary of the release of Doom (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doom_(video_game)). Yep, it's been fifteen years since we jumped into hell armed with a chainsaw and a shotgun, to blast apart imps and dodge beholders, and all without using a mouse.
You all played it, right?

never heard of that game.
LOL, FPSs have come a long way since the days of Dooms crappy graphics and no story ;)
Was still fun to play at the time though.

Loved it, was a damn fun game. Was my first venture into fps's although on the Playstation for me rather than PC I am loathe to admit.

Bah, that's not the real experience. It's gotta be played the W.A.S.D. way.
I played it once in co-op mode on a friend's PC. He'd switched the shoot and open buttons around, and so naturally I fired the rocket launcher at a door from point-blank range and blew myself up.

I did start out with quake on PC though not long after Doom on the PS :)

didnt doom use arrows for movement?
WASD came many years later. (or am i showing my age ? lol )
Doom was a breakthrough game that gave tonnes of enjoyment, but would i play it again, nope. Sorry but my glasses arent rosetinted when it comes to PC gaming, older isnt necessarily better, :) things improve for a reason. Just dont mention Doom 3
Where as Duke Nukem 3 i would as the humour is great in that game (but id still find the graphics unbearable nowadays) .

Hmm, I can't actually remember. I feel like I've been taken down a peg. A whole peg!

I once tried Doom for about 30 seconds. One of those wasted moments in life.
Never understood why Doom was such a hit. Mindless bloodshed without the brain needing to be connected. No thanks, I prefer games which stimulate my brains a bit more :)
