EVE Online / Punishers and Crucifiers
« on: February 19, 2009, 02:28:50 PM »
I think we are a few Amarr now in MAADI so these two frigates would be nice to have in stock.
If we also could produce medium pulse lasers and dual-light pulse lasers it would be nice.
Sometimes you need to go far to find reasonably priced dual-light pulse lasers.

Just to make it clear. Hanging outside 14 is very, very, boring for them. That is what I meant by boring them to death. Their isk/h must be lousy and on top of that very boring :)

A miner Alt corp, yes I like that. That is why I asked earlier if we should move miners out of MAADI so we could keep mining in spite of the war.
Of course that corp could be extorted as well and a new move etc. I don't know the corp part of Eve so this may be a logistically difficult or time consuming.

Shortly before the war I moved every ship to 14 :(
We then had the plan that Beo would move our ships to this other close to low sec station.
So yes, we need to spread out a bit. It was just a bit unlucky now. At least for me.
I also don't like paying them. We will get on their "list" and they will be back.

Just wait 2 days, then make the war mutual, and keep harassing them with cheap frigates.

...
I wouldnt say you were hiding, I'd say doing what the VC did in Vietnam - sitting in the jungle shouting at the GI's trying to find them, taunting them into breaking their own cover etc ;)

I am not sure we can do much harassing. I actually think the war hurts us a bit more than it hurts them. We use mining and missions to earn our income. They extort. I am sure they do some mining etc as well but not in the corp they use for extortions. This means we cannot annoy their miners.
What I am saying is that in a war of attrition we may loose more than they do. With time we will have a pvp fleet that can deliver a punch, but it is not there just yet. In conclusion, I don't think we should prolong the war unless we benefit from it.
While there is a war let us kill what we can but if they seem stronger we bore them to death. Hanging outside Antt. 14 without even a response from us in local chat, how fun is that  ;)

- just remember to keep a nice tight orbit around the target (by tight I mean you should be able to wave to the pilot) and you'll receive less dmg from them.
...
Interesting. My thought after yesterday was that it would be better to put 2 TD, or a TD and a Warp disruptor, on a crucifier and stay far away where the orbital speed is higher and no stasis web can reach you. I was killed yesterday in a punisher, equipped with a stasis and lasers, because I was webbed.
I was also a bit slow to react when our fleet started heading for bed ;)
Anyway, I would appreciate if someone could give me some pro and cons for very close and very far away.

I don't know about bait.
They declare war, they scout our system. They obviously think we are easy meat and maybe they are right, maybe not.
They will most likely be in Antt tonight. Are you guys sure we are not taking their bait?  ;)

An alternative strategy could be to bore them to death tonight and muster a force another day when they are not so organized.
One can assume they will muster all they can tonight unless they follow the bore strategy and hit us when we relax.
I will leave the  running of the war to you experienced guys. Have fun tonight.

WAR, cool, first time for me. But, but... I am off on ski holiday, leaving Thursday :(
Piss them off so it is still ongoing when I get back. Tonight and Wednesday are bad war days but on Tuesday I can probably sacrifice my life for the corp.

Btw, is there a reason they picked us or are they just bored and want to kill stuff?

Should we remove our secure containers from the asteroid fields in Antt?
Is it adviceable to take miner Alts out of the corp to keep money incoming in spite of the war?
Not that I will have time for mining until I am back but just as a general question.

See you shortly toninght. Will make safe spots etc.

I want the nice lady's voice on my Tom Tom sat nav, does that make me a sad person?

Sylvia is the answer ! The TomTom sensual/sexy voice. It did only cost 5-6£ and is without doubt the best TomTom voice around.
I bought Sylvia and a few other cheap voices from TomTom just for fun.  I don't know if it is available anymore but I cannot see why not.
Ok, my children are all >14 but neither they nor my wife would dream of using another voice.

works ok for me :)
Hehe, I am sure it is working. I just remember the one and only contract I've made. My Alt needed money for a mining barge. I was sure the money was gone but I found them back alright. In Eve you just cannot get a flashy mail icon saying click here someone sent you something. I am sure it is to scare off new players.

...contract all you want moving to Mista to Thera and she'll happily run you some stuff down ;)
I will try. I find the whole contract system very intimidating  ???
Mista V Moon 4 - Ishukone....  or?

Thanks for this excellent page.
I wish I had seen this before I ran three pest control missions in a row, at the same station. They indeed had a pest problem.
I then decided to earn money by mining.

Thanks for all replies guys :)

I will get some 5-6 frigates set up this weekend. They will be setup mainly for tackling/EWAR but refitting to lasers is ofc possible.
Since I am Amarr I will have some Crucifiers, Executioners and Punishers.  I am not at lvl 4 in jamming/disruption/ewar but I can fit the starting modules. Any Nos-neu combo is also ok.

Thanks Bethor for the roadmap to a BS. In due time I may fly one but I doubt I have the perseverance. Not now anyway. I am getting more and more allergic to grinding, irrespective of MMO.
For the time being I will aim for tackling/EWAR and maybe later head for cov ops or go cruiser/BC. I have never played the sneaky rogue type but why not now.

I have some logistic questions. How shall I organize myself in terms of ship storage locations with respect to expected area of action and jump clone location?
I have two jump clones at the MAADI recommended locations.
/ciao

EVE Online / Roles in a fleet
« on: February 11, 2009, 05:13:30 PM »
Hi guys,
I am in need of some advice. I had a dream of getting a battleship one day but I am starting to realize I will never have the economy to support that. I also have the feeling that I have started a race where I will never catch up. I have always been a min-maxing kind of guy when playing MMOs but in Eve I only see a wall of skills to climb and the need of Croesus gold vault.
So, I have decided to lower my ambitions and try to find a "cheaper" role to play. I remember this topic was discussed in some thread way back but I never found it back and at the time I knew even less what it was all about.
I am sure there are roles in a fleet for more laidback gamers where they can still contribute. I know there are tacklers, scouts and electronic platforms and got a rough idea of what they do. However I don't know if these roles, with smaller ships, still need to use dead expensive equipment to be useful or if training appropriate skills takes years. Not that I am in a hurry but my patience do have limits. Is there something MAADI is in great need of?
Any role suggestion would be appreciated.
