Other MMO's we have played / Re: Current Issues

Today's Outage: September 3, 2009

During our nightly maintenance, a new member of our Network Operation team incorrectly updated our patching manifest file. The result of this error required us to do a complete resync of the patching system and affected log-ins. Fortunately our infrastructure is highly resilient, so while the transfer of this much data was a lengthy process; it wasn’t a difficult one. This resync resulted in no character or game data loss, just an unfortunately extended period of down time.
Due to the lengthy down time we will be extending all affected subscribers an additional day of free game time. Our desire is to have you as unaffected by this issue as possible, and we apologize for the inconvenience this issue has caused

Well I got it working so I am fine now.
The problem with going to http://www.champions-online.com/ is that registration requires a key which you do not have. You get (see) your key automagically when you use the right clicking described above within Steam. Provided it is working of course.

Other MMO's we have played / Current Issues
« on: September 04, 2009, 06:59:55 AM »
Let us start with a game issue thread since there are some problems at the moment and I am sure more will come.
Yesterday evening it was impossible for me and others to get to the game login page.
I could download and install the game but never reached the log in.
Reading on the internet the suggestion was that they have problems handling all players. True or not I don't know. It can also be some simple technical issue. Time will tell.
Anyway, this morning, 06:15, I had no problems getting there.
Then new problems started. I had to give a username and password to play the game.
Buying the game via Steampowered gives you no information about such things.
Ok, I will contact Steampowered and ask what the problem is.
Then, the normal Steam account does not work and they ask me to make another kind of Steam account to contact customer support.
My reaction was like the meteorite aiming for a seriously fucked up earth in the End Of Ze World video: "Well, fuck that"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZMwKPmsbWE

I used google and fairly quickly I found a post saying that: right clicking on the game in Steam would bring up an account management option where this is handled. This option should be available when installation starts.
Of course I wasn't given that option right clicking and the game was installed yesterday.
More googling and I found a post that said it may work by "Verify integrity of game cache". This option can be found after right clicking and via some tabs. Lo and behold account management turned up with a right click.
Next problem is that the account management activation only seems to work with Internet Explorer. I use Firefox of course.
Ok, it didn't take me long to realize this but by now my mood had changed from happily looking forward to a new game to a critic that will be hard to convince of the Steam-Cryptic management of this game.
How on earth could anyone conceive such an installation procedure? There was absolutely no information whatsoever on how to do this. Mindboggling to say the least. I wanted to post my findings on the Steam forum but guess what, they wanted me to register another account for the forums. "Well, fuck that".
I hope I will be able to calm down and hopefully the game will be so amazing I will forget all about this by the end of the weekend :)

Warhammer Online / Re: Karak Hirn is being closed.
« on: September 01, 2009, 06:48:06 AM »
Go to the account managing site, you can check where your toons are and also transfer your toons to Karak Azgal from there.
...

So right you are. I found my toons back and moved some of them to Azgal.
I have played around with the Slayer and Choppa and I am having fun with these at low levels even though I know the futility of it.
I have to say it again, I really like the way the races and classes look in this game. I wish Blizzard would take a look at the WAR goblins.

Tempted as I've been I downloaded and started playing half an hour ago. The free 10 days that is.
First thing I see is that all my high level guys are gone :(
I have nothing above level 5. Have any of you guys had this? Is it for the trial only or are they really gone?
I will of course contact Mythic etc.
First 30 min with a choppa, great fun, why oh why couldn't they make this game work. Nice graphics and the characters are so much nicer than in other MMOs. Humans in WAR you actually want to play. Well, I hope I get another 10 days next year.

General Gaming / Re: What are we all currently playing?

So, I am back from holidays and promptly picked up blood bowl.
I resubscribed to WoW for some obscure reason. It is the only MMO I am palying.
All in all I am playing less computer games now but Blood Bowl is the topper.

I used to watch a lot of cycling, well sports in general, but the increased level of doping scandals has made me lose interest.
The same goes to some extent for film and TV where the number of silicon boobs, liposuction and botox fixed people is annoying.
However, I still seem to accept books ;)

My all time favourite space 4x game is Stars!. You may still find it cheap on the net.
I played quite a lot of Space Empires IV and I see now that a version V i available.

I had a bear shaman which made it up to the high twenties. I do not remember any big problems and I rather enjoyed him. If I remember right spell rotation was important. Keep those heals coming.

This game hasn't been mentioned yet. It is a post apocalyptic MMO in closed beta at the moment.
It has an NDA so you do not get to hear much about it, yet.
Anyway, FYI, I do not like a kill 10 boar, pick 10 flowers MMO with professions generating inventory management issues.
I am just not up to that anymore.
Talking about post apocalyptic games. I just finished Fallout 3. I enjoyed it. I wouldn't play it again but it was entertaining and had a good story.
All the best to you all,
Pashur

EVE Online / A break
« on: May 15, 2009, 10:17:29 AM »
Just to let you know. I will take an Eve break.
One reason is most likely the current reorganization here at work. It has created quite some stress and lots of emo reactions. Now, when I put on my pc at home I just want to kill stuff. Eve requires quite a bit more than that and I just lack the strength atm.
So, currently I do not play any mmo games which gives a very odd feeling of loss.  However, I follow the HoJ MMO-Verse forum closely and I hope I soon feel like getting back to something old or plunge into something new.
Have fun guys and see you soon in some MMO :)

EVE Online / Where did I go
« on: March 09, 2009, 10:40:14 AM »
I will follow the trend of announcing a reason for a semi-absence.
My 15 year old son, who was with HoJ in Warhammer, wanted to play WoW again.
So, the two of us are now raiding Naxxramas 1-2 times a week. It may sound like a cliché but it is quality time. I am happy we can have fun together even if WoW doesn't interest me that much anymore. I tried to introduce Excel in space to him but he wasn't impressed  ;)
I see Eve as a long term investment and I hope our coming move to 0.0 and the expansion will bring some nice action.

EVE Online / Re: Fountain Player Info Pack
« on: March 04, 2009, 08:33:05 AM »
This all sounds really cool. I foresee big changes but since I never set foot in low sec I don't see all implications.
If I look on the influence map I see Fountain being controlled by a few corps. What have we done / need to do/ to not piss them off?
How will life for a small corp be in Fountain? What activities/threats/benefits will we see?

* Edit: Found the thread explaining some of my questions :) It was a sticky so no wonder it was hard to find.
