Other MMO's we have played / Re: Losing speed
« on: October 03, 2009, 06:01:57 PM »
Yeah, I will also keep playing. At least for another month or two.
I agree that this game has potential. The problem for many MMOs
nowadays is that players are more prone to MMO-hopping.
The faithful players of Everquest and early WoW are gone.
In the long run I don't think that is bad but short term it will
be financially difficult for new MMO titles.
I am also pretty sure I am in a MMO depression at the moment.

Other MMO's we have played / Losing speed
« on: October 02, 2009, 09:55:24 PM »
I am sad to say i am loosing speed in CO.
Lvl 27 and I never feel a need to team up and most quests are kill ten boars.
This is not looking good. I think Cryptic launched too early. There is too little content.
I have had great fun trying many chars up to lvl ~15. Nice bunch of super powers to try out,
but when that is old news then what?
Crafting is a failure. I cannot create anything better than I find questing or by mob drops.
Like in WAR it only generates bag management frustration.
What do you guys think?

World of Warcraft Retail / Re: A Wow Thread

The achievements are definitely not my thing and when most other people was so hyped up about them I realized the time to quit had come.
I will most likely go back and check it out at some point but with no new classes in the next expansion not even that interests me.

BTW, Mangala, have you been playing with the forum :) Writing posts with light gray font on white background is not exactly easy!

I totally agree with you guys. I so wanted this game to work.
No sub at the moment but will probably take a month every now and then.

25 years, how time flies.
I remember it was a pain to dock those spaceships because the rectangular port was rotating and if you missed rotating equally fast you died.
That is about all I remember. It makes you wonder how good a game it actually was :)

Other MMO's we have played / Re: Mission Rewards
« on: September 10, 2009, 12:30:28 PM »
I will also jump on this free respec. I have made a few mistakes with my first characters and never could afford a respec.
I now start to understand how the stats work so I would like to comment on Telekenisis question. I made one of these guys and really like him. The caster energy feedback with melee finisher fits me well.

For a Telekenisis build, what would I best be taking going through missions when it comes to rewards?

Per default Dex(crit) and Ego(crit bonus) are the only stats that will increase damage. Str will to a lesser degree for melee characters but it is unclear to what degree. I suppose this is valid for Telekenisis melee attacks as well but I am of course not sure. Besides Dex and Ego you will increase your damage by investing in your two superstats. If those two are Dex and Ego that will, for most classes, maximize your dps. However some powers(attacks) may scale with other Stats, for Telekenisis it used to be Endurance (according to the powers' help text). We will see if this has been changed to Ego in this patch. If not Endurance is also a good choice for a superstat in a Telekenisis build. For levelling I think picking Recovery, Endurance and Constituion are good stats since it will make it easier to survive and hence faster levelling. For example, if Constitution is a superstat you will not only increase your hit points but also your dps.
If I got something wrong I hope the more experienced super heros will correct me.

To end the story. I picked up a new box today and it had a nicely visible sticker with the activation code inside the box.

I haven't yet pestered you guys with my music but here we go.
During the last year I seem to listen to mainly indie pop/rock kind of stuff.
I could also use some new influences so why not post what you are into nowadays in this appropriately named thread.
If popular why not sticky this thread.

I have seen the following live not long ago (pukkelpop 2009)

Silversun Pickups I haven't seen yet but they will be at Sportpaleis (Antwerp) on Dec 6.

Other MMO's we have played / activation key problem
« on: September 07, 2009, 04:08:43 PM »
Hi guys,
I just bought a DVD copy of the game for my son. My problem is that I cannot find the activation key.
Does anyone of you know where I can find it? The crapy mnual says in the box but I cannot find any key there.
My first copy was bought via Steampowered and then it automagically opened the browser and pasted it in.
Not so this time or maybe it tried but was blocked by Firefox and noscript.
Does anyone of you know how to find the activation key?

Other MMO's we have played / Re: First impressions
« on: September 07, 2009, 09:01:09 AM »
So here are my first impressions:

Pros: I have had great fun taking 3 different guys through the two first "scenarios". So they are level 9+ now. When you know the quests getting there can be done within two to three hours. Levelling speed is pretty high in the beginning. It really gets you going quickly and is of course intentional but after around lvl 10 it slows down a lot and mobs are harder to kill and you start to die more. This is the time I think when you need to review your spec choices and start to think of defensive capabilities. This potential min maxing is something I really like and I am looking forward to. I do not know yet how balanced the talent/skill system is but I look forward to tweaking my chars to perfection. Grouping up is easy and most people playing are very MMO experienced so if you come in the middle of a fight to a difficult quest mob "asking to join group" (option if the player is in a group) is almost always granted immediately. The powerhouse is a very nice invention where you can try skills before you buy.

Cons: It is still a level based MMO with kill 10 boars kind of quests. I though I never wanted to play another one of these but obviously I do. There is not much of a story to the game so I only speed read the quests when I take them. The quest areas are visible on the map as in WAR so what I normally do is to take all available quests and use my travel talent to go there, kill a few things and if that doesn't trigger the quest I read more carefully what I am supposed to do. All depending on how soon after my speed reading I do the quests ofc.
As others have said the graphics are sub par.
There is no manual that gives any guidance so you have to figure everything out yourself. The in game description of skills and talents are often confusing. There are 8 innate talents: Strength, Dexterity, Ego, Intelligence etc. and for instance why different caster frameworks (classes) like Fire, Ice, Sorcery, Telepathy, Electricity etc are recommended to use different sets of these is really confusing and very unintuitive.
There seems to be a boe/bop system but whether a piece of gear is one or the other is never obvious to me. The crafting system is puzzling and for example I never know what is a skill up and what is not.

Summary: As I've said I am having fun now. I think the reason is that it is different from other MMOs I've played recently. I do not know how long I will play this game. It all depends on if levelling becomes a bore like in WAR and ultimately how the end game will be. Unlike WAR where I expected pvp to keep me playing I doubt that will be the case in CO so they better keep the pve content interesting. Another personal plus for me is that my son(15y) likes the game and will get his own copy now. This means we can play together which I really like and on top of this I get to keep my computer :)
For me this game is value for money. If I look at anticipated [hours fun]/€ it will without doubt match other good games like Fallout 3.

Other MMO's we have played / Re: Show us your characters!
« on: September 07, 2009, 07:32:22 AM »
Ok, here are two of the chars I have been playing over the weekend.
Harry the Hobo is, despite his looks, an electricity guy. I am planning to write a short background story one day.
Sikri is a "normal fantasy" character with Fighting Claws. Acrobatics fits this character and I think it turns him into a superhero.
Josua, poor guy, doesn't have a picture. Anyway, he is a Telepath that will focus on healing.
I was never into super hero comics etc. and especially not in to  power armor type of guys which is why I make more normal or fanatsy themed guys. Well, in this game there is room for all kinds :)
