Well, the NDA does not allow much to be said, so I am not going to post anything that breaches that. This section of the forum can after all be viewed by anybody (including bots) and I certainly do not wish to shoot my own foot :)

Anyway, many things are public knowledge already. The game uses the official GamesWorkshop LRB5 rules, so very easy to jump in for somebody familiar with the board game. Also, LRB5 rules are the result of 20 years of playing, so I for one claim them to be quite balanced :)

Not all teams are available at this phase, which is ok. The purpose of this phase is to test how the game server handles many games going on, so there is less of that looking for perfect team to trash, and more actual playing :)

The graphics are great and functional. The music is great, altough there is not that much of it; yet very thematic and gets you into the spirit of th game. The sound-effects are great; for example there is no doubt of when a turn-over happens.

There are some things with the UI that took a moment to figure out (double-right clicking to activate most things must be a French thing, first time I've encountered that :D), also there are some keyboard short-cuts (in case you are in beta, press N and/or G to cycle through different things;  those short-cuts are not yet (AFAICS) not mentioned anywhere but had a huge impact for me).

Chatting is done by typing, and for me it was not the perfect tool. It is ok, but it is not that great tool for socialising. With the 4 minute rule time is quite short, and at least I didn't have time to type anything in the chat box while plotting my moves. Conversations thus were quite hilarious: Complete your turn and type a lot in the chat box, to get replies 4 minutes later when the opponent has finished his turn (and when you don't have time to type anymore). Chatting by typing works fine between strangers, but when I'll play with friends (the released product, that is) I'll be using some VOIP system during games. Beer and chatting are after all crucial parts of Blood Bowl :)

In all, it is in much better shape than I did believe it to be :)  I am very exited (and tired, having slept under 5 hours last night...).

Heh, looking at the official FAQ at http://www.cyanide-studio.com/forumBB/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=183 I notice there are some things mentioned there that I refrained from posting above :D

Ie there are only human and orc teams available for the new wave of testers (but there are other teams in the ladder, ie those teams that have been in the beta before this phase). I personally rolled a cookie-cutter human team called Marienburg Marvels (say hi if you see me in the lobby) with 1 passer, 1 catcher, 1 blitzer, 1 ogre, 8 linemen, 3 Rerolls and Fanfactor 8.

Btw, Jim and Bob sound like I have always imagined they would :)

EDIT: Sheesh my spelling sucks again...

Redemptionists was my gang (until the expansion Van Saar was my choice). Flamers, zealots, flamers, and some more flamers. Can't go wrong with flamers really ;)  Also, the Redemptionst gang I painted is one the best painted I ever succeeded to complete (usually I paint 5 minis at a time, then lose interest, and then when I continue the inspiration has changed; the Redemptionsts gang I painted completly in one sitting, so all the gang members actually have same colour-scheme :D ).

Hehehe, Gang Delaque for me. Actually they're one of the few miniatures I still have. :)
Strangely enough, it was kinda fun, painting skinheads in Gestapo-coats....  ::)

This beta ends on May 5th, so perhaps they are not sending out anymore keys for now? Which is sad, none of my BB gaming buddies have got a key either.

Anyway, hot damn the game feels good. Sorry to inform that to you people who are not in beta yet :(

Meanwhile, I still have to lose a game :) Five straight wins (1-0, 4-0, 3-0, 2-0, 3-1), but sadly the server has for some registered first one of those :(  Waah waah, no skillzzz for my players, I am a paying customer and I... errmm...

If you get in, and if it has been a while since you last played, if I may provide a couple tips for the teams you can roll (aka humans and orcs only).

Humans: IMO it is better to buy 3 rerolls, 1 blitzer and FF8 than to buy 2 rerolls, 4 blitzer and FF4.  Those missing Block skills will be sorely needed, but you'll be very happy for that extra reroll and the good kick-off events you should win with FF8 (the value of FF is much smaller in LRB5 than before, but IMO it still a pretty good thing to have it at decent figures :) ), so 4 re-rolls and FF3 might not be as disastrous as it first sounds (4 rerolls really would be *nice*!). The "pro-players" seem to advice to not take the ogre at start, but I disagree: Just put the big meanie standing there in the center creates a lot of space around him even if never throws a block; also the triple dice blitzes the Ogre can launch usually pretty damn good results (altough I have already succeeded once to throw double-skulls+both down, but happily my opponent suffered an immediate turn over after that :) )

Orcs: Do not go for the 4 Black Orcs at start, you will be facerolled because of these slow non-skilled monsters always being in the wrong place at the wrong time; instead go for more blitzers and rerolls, and for heavens sake include a gobbo in the line-up to give you some strategic depth (despite many "pros" suggesting that you should avoid gobbos (because they are so weak and puny) at start -> BAD ADVICE if you ask me) especially on the offence. The only TD scored against me was scored by a gobbo, they are *hard* to stop as a newbie team (no Tackle anywhere) and they'll cause constant headaches to the opponents. I mean the "Cage" tactics for orcs is soooo 90's and easy to stop before the ball ever crosses the midline if you know what you are doing :)  A semi-cage is much better: Form up a normal cage minus a gobbo and a blitzer who you send down the other flank, keeping them out of tackle zones if possible (so that the opponent has to decide wether to blitz the flankers or the cage, and a gobbo can easily dodge out of any tackle zones while a blitzer has to have to players or he will simply knock the lone opponent senseless (unless it happens to be a blitzer too, of course).

FUCK YOU !?!?!?!?
"Banking was conceived in iniquity and was born in sin. The bankers own the earth. Take it away from them, but leave them the power to create money, and with the flick of the pen they will create enough deposits to buy it back again. However, take away from them the power to create money and all the great fortunes like mine will disappear and they ought to disappear, for this would be a happier and better world to live in. But, if you wish to remain the slaves of bankers and pay the cost of your own slavery, let them continue to create money." Josiah Stamp (Governor Bank of England 1928-41)
