The Dog & Duck / Away for a week
« on: January 29, 2010, 08:19:02 PM »
You probably wouldn't have noticed me missing, with my haphazard activity on here and all, but I'll be /afk for a week, to try and see all of the 500km+ of prepared mountainside they offer in La Plagne and Les Arcs.
If I survive the French, I'll report back here on my adventures. ;)

Ttfn!

....the boardgame.

I has it! It just got in the mail, and I'm excited enough about it to want to do a show and tell. ;)
So, here it is!

And it looks great! Behold the EVIL balaclava, being modelled here by yours truly. :)

So, Pieter, beware. I may just bring this baby to our next dinner-and-game-day. (Or was that supposed to be the Axis&Allies thingie?)

OooOoooo.
I liked the first one, but thought it got a little repetitive. Looks like they're trying to fix that.
I wants it.

General Gaming / Age of Conan

As I've bought it for 10 euro on Steam a few days ago, I figured I'd start a thread on AoC.
I know some of you played it before, so it'd be fun to get some feedback from you guys.

First thing that was immediately apparent is that the game is a buggy PoS to install - though Steam was apparently partially to blame - the updater kept updating itself, until I ran it from the AoC directory within the Steam directory. Gah!

Since it's running I'm thoroughly enjoying myself though. Two things that struck me were that the graphics are absolutely great, and second, that the game is bloody hard. I've rolled a bear shaman so I'm not sure if that class is relatively weak compared to others, but I must have died a dozen times before level 12 now. It's (almost) impossible to kill two mobs my own level. The few times I managed to do that I had to quaff potions and make perfect combos. Is this normal, or?

Any suggestions? Any classes I really should try out before my free month expires? Anything else I should know?
Cheers :)
Rico

Lord of the Rings Online / Could one of your officery types....
« on: May 23, 2009, 09:02:04 AM »
....please promote my newly invited alts?
I'm trying to get some building mats over to other toons so they can actually make stuff out of it, and was merrily abusing the kinhouse storage chests for it,  but my alts aren't allowed to take the stuff out  :-[

This is also why there's some stuff missing from the chest upstairs, replaced by some low-grade building materials. ;)

Lord of the Rings Online / Problem logging on to Snowbourne
« on: January 05, 2009, 03:16:03 PM »
Hey guys,

I started a LOTRO trial but now I have this weird problem:
I downloaded the client and after a lot of grief managed to get it working and connect to the Snowbourne server. Unfortunately, it froze a few minutes later and booted me off the server again. When I reconnected after a few tries, it froze and booted me again after only a few minutes. Now whenever I try reconnecting it'll tell me it's "searching for the logon server", counts up to 20 tries, then gives me a black screen with "Connection failed: Client timed out the connection."
Oddly enough it will (usually) allow me to connect to different servers. I'm assuming there's only one login server for all servers?
Does one of you know if this is a known issue and how to solve it? I searched the official forums a bit on it already, but all it came up with is making sure my firewall is set up correctly (check) and something about making sure IE is connected to the internet (check, I think. I have IE installed and unblocked by the firewall, though I don't use it as my browser.)

Additional problems:
- Sometimes the turbine client/patcher will have a long pause at "getting datacenters" then goes to retrying in 1:00.
- The persistent disconnecting ingame that lead up to this problem.

So far the LOTRO client looks like a bloated piece of crap, that took about 12 hours to install and has come up with a more serious problem within the first day than either wow, war or eve in over 3 years.
Is this "normal behaviour" of the game?

Thanks for your time,
Rico

Warhammer Online / Greatweapons vs Sword 'n Board
« on: October 16, 2008, 07:47:58 AM »
Quote from: Jarkko, in another thread
I would say we have an adequate number of Ironbreakers in the guild. While Swordmasters can be great tanks, they really can't compete with an Ironbreaker if there is a choice Smiley  What we need (my personal view this, so don't shoot me) however is melee DPS (a bit short on White Lions as far as I can see). Swordmasters specced in Khaine or Vaul, wielding a Greatweapon, are a great boon to any group. Plus they can take that despicable sword&board from their back-pack if really really needed to  :)

I'm wondering if anyone figured out yet how using a greatweapon influences your damage output compared to using a onehander and shield? I think I remember reading that this choice would only influence auto-attack damage, which should be a relatively minor part of the total damage a "tank" class outputs. Is it worth to sacrifice the additional protection a shield offers?

Warhammer Online / Healing coefficients

Hmmm, interesting:

TLDR Version: Every heal in Warhammer has a calculable factor that will tell you how much willpower it would take to scale that spell by the same amount as you would by speccing for one more mastery level. By looking at what spells scale well with mastery levels, and which scale poorly, you can better weigh whether to spec in a certain mastery.

Warhammer Online / [Ironbreaker] Building threat
« on: September 24, 2008, 08:50:58 AM »
I was having some trouble getting the mobs to pay me sufficient attention yesterday in the Sewers.
In my own defense, they were all 2+ levels higher and me and Vacuum, and we both were taking big amounts of damage that had to be healed.....but still!

So, a question to all you other Ironbreakers: which abilities do you feel build good (the best?) threat - for the amount of AP they cost. I'm not too concerned with Grudge as it looks like it's almost always near 100 anyway, except when I use it to regain AP. ;)

My thoughts so far:
  • Make sure your oathfiend is set to another (off)tank. Even though it's usually not a problem, more grudge never hurts.
  • Grudging blow has a large amount of built-in hate, as per the tooltip.
  • Heavy blow: a big chunk of damage for a modest amount of AP. Don't spam this one, since you'll overwrite the second "tick" which hits for more than the first.
  • Binding grudge again causes a large amount of damage at 100 grudge. For the moment I'm going by the theory that damage = threat, except for innate "bonus" hate, like grudging blow.

Other stuff:
  • Taunt only in emergency situations - to get the mob back. 20 seconds can be a long cooldown, when tanking 2 mobs. My WoW instict makes me move the mob away from the squishies after, hoping that mobs are less likely to aggro a person when he's not in melee range, but so far I have no evidence that this is actually the case.
  • The knockdown abilities, like "Away with ye!" and "Shield of reprisal" are great emergency abilities when you lost a mob and need a few more seconds for your taunt to come off cooldown. They also seem to build a decent amount of hate. (I guess getting knocked on your tail does that to a mob)

I'd love to hear your thoughts!
