Why give it away for free when they can charge you to death for it, just like everything else at the airport.

age is meaningless ;) i go with maturity myself, ex: at 24 i was with a 17 yr old schoolgirl (and yes she would wear her uniform), she had a lot more maturity than some of the 20 somethings i had been with.

In Pai right now - northern Thailand - its posibly the most relaxed place on earth. However a severe lack of nightlife isnt a good thing. I am saving cash that way though.
Also paying 3quid a night for a bungalow between 2 of us (sharing with another lad traveller I met via the dreaded facebook). Very rustic.
Id forgotten how cold the mountains can get at night - and I have no warm clothing. Cant find a single warm item here in Pai either, which seriously sucks to be me.

Going to Laos in a couple of days - stayed in Pai alot longer than I had intended.
Fell of a moped - not injured much tbh; pulled tendons in my foot during a 2 day jungle trek - that made it interesting.
Other than that Ive been doing some serious relaxing.

Going to Luang Prabang by any chance? Nice place to visit but very quiet. Not alot of night life other than cafe's (unless its changed in the last couple of years) I managed to avoid the sunset visit to the temple ruins on the hill in town (every tourist does that ::) ) The three days i spent there , i spent mostly cycling up along the course of the river to the waterfalls or up into the mountains. OH and watch out for malaria Its alot worse in Laos than its neighbours.

Jon, regarding your jetlag thingy (posted jan 27th): i saw on television this theory being tested: eating resets biological clock -> dont eat for > 16 hours, before eating breakfast-time in new country. This is supposed to make transit much easier.
So before coming back, eat last meal at 1600 British time, then dont eat (just drink water / tea-w/o-sugar-or-milk) for 16 hours even when on the plane and eat for first time at 0800 at home -> feel good at the price of being hungry for 8-12 hours
ofc, start 'normal' routine at 0800, so dont go to sleep again till evening etc.

Do have a couple of recipes my lame thai asked the cook at a great spot in Pai for, so when I find them in my luggage I'll post em. Both for noodle dishes.

So - recipe 1 is for a dish called Rhad Na/Lad Na/Rad Na/Lard nar (lot of names all mean same really) Its basically noodles in gravy.
Transcribed from my very badly written short hand.
Chinese broccoli or broccoli, leaves separated from stalks and chopped (you can use both the stalks and leaves/heads)
2-3 TB thick black soy sauce
2 TB corn starch
1 TB salty soy beans
1/2 lb Chicken, Pork, Fried Gluten or Fried Tofu, chopped into small even pieces
Prik Nam Som (small green and red chilies chopped with garlic in vinegar)
Sen Mee Noodles - (thin dried vermicelli rice noodles) 3/4 of a package
Ground white pepper
sugar
Soy Sauce/Nam Plaa (Fish Sauce)
2 cups Water or Chicken Broth
1-2 cloves garlic, minced
vegetable oil
Directions:
Soak noodles in warm water for one hour (only if using dried noodles!), then stir-fry in hot vegetable oil in a large wok (preferably nonstick) with about 1 TB of the thick soy sauce, until sauce is evenly distributed and noodles are a medium brown color. Stir continuously and briskly while cooking to prevent sticking. Set aside.
In a separate large skillet or wok, sautee the garlic in 1-2 TB vegetable oil. Add your meat/gluten/tofu, then broccoli stalks, then the water or broth, then 1 TB black soy sauce, 1/2 TB salted soy beans, 1 TB soy sauce or fish sauce (or 1/2 TB of each) and if desired, 1/2 TB oyster sauce.
Dissolve 2 TB cornstarch in warm water, stirring well, then add to wok. Mix well. Add white pepper and a dash of sugar.
Add broccoli leaves and mix until sauce becomes thick. Serve the gravy mixture over the noodles, and serve with the "prik nam som" (vinegar chili peppers) and white pepper.

pretty merry. passed on bowling and lao-lao as it turns out this GH has a midnight curfew. still had a good time, met a few randoms tonight not one of who had girldreads - while running up a million kip bar tab (fuck all really but still good between a handful of people)

Aye im there now, been before and town has changed somewhat since my last visit. Much more of an upmarket feel to most places, even they are still cheap pricewise.
Done the sunset before and got roped into it again last night before dinner by a girl I know who hadnt done it yet and was leaving town right after.
Theres still not much of a latenight scene, most people hit a bar or two until they close at 11.30 and then its either back to guesthouses and beer, or head off to a bowling alley away from the old town that serves whisky and laolao till 3 or so.

To answer though. Both western girls. One called Sam (23 Kiwi) and the other Leah (25 brit). One I met randomly in a bar while it turned out we were both playing the "bitter travellers who DONT tube" card and the other was on a caving tour I did in the Vang Vieng area, and spent the rest of that day with :)
Leah should be turning up in Vientiane before I leave the city too.

Its annoying as I checked us in and they only asked for my details, so while the tourist police have been helpful and my uk insurers whiny fuckers, he has just scooted off god knows where. this is thailands 2nd largest island so odds are... hell the ferry terminal is 10mins from here on White Sands beach.
Didnt take me cards though, but still nearly 200 pound...

Leave bangkok tomorrow. heading to samui for a few days and then its off to Ko Lipe before escaping to Malaysia for a few weeks before I get back to the real world.
Glad to be leaving here now though - place hammers your budget when you drink all night repeatedly.

Lamai beach on Samui sucks. Then again Samui is a wannabe Phuket.
Tourists everywhere, no traveller bars only irish bars, german bars and girlie bars. Only seen a few travellers - some of whom I arranged to meet here.
I leave in a couple of days to go to Malaysia though :)

Kuala Lumpur is epically brilliant.
Not bothering going up to the petronas skybridge, as I did the Menara KL the other day, awesome views.
Practically spending every night at the Reggae bar and meeting so many new people by just being stupidly friendly. All good fun, if expensive after the 10th beer when I move on to cocktails.
In other news, im sitting in my room, alone at 1am on a tuesday morning. I do need the sleep though.

So Tuesday night was random fullstop.
Met up with a bunch of folks, including squirter girl, got ratted at usual bar. Moved inside at 2am when they start to shut. Get into some flirting with this malay chick, who then goes sycho and attacks me, gets booted out. Got bruises all on my right upper arm and a lump above my right eyebrow...
Bouncers trusted that id done nowt wrong as some malay guys we know backed me up.
Bar kicks us out at 330. walks squirter back to her place (i was being gentlemanly, we hadnt really been getting close in the bar), turns out she is locked out. Place has a curfew.
Suggest she can crash at mine, does so. One thing leads to another, we pretty much both came onto each other at the same time. Surprises me quite considerably the first time she squirts.
Come on 7am and hostel staff are banging on door telling us we have to quieten down. 730am and im doing a condom resupply run to the fucking KK-mart - got so many comments from the staff, they found it hilarious (I was looking a touch haggard at this point and had also walked past the display 3 times).
3pm she leaves. Epic day was epic considering the wierd start to it :)

Still will be. KSR area is away from the old red main camp, which is mere wreckage and rubble now - along with the local shopping centres.
Thats in like 3 weeks so should be sorted by then, or I fly back to BKK from Singapore and just camp at the airport if it isnt.

My netbook "broke" (read, it fell off a bunkbed...).
Bought me a new laptop here in Singapore. Its lush as fuck, installed steam on it, eve, skype and all sorts of goodness :D
Go to Tioman in a day or so - maybe earlier as theres a local festival that may fuck up accomodation options...

Tomorrow so calls for drinky times when some friends get here, before I fuck off on friday (going then now) to Tioman.
However for now im stopping up to have more satay and chicken rice and then argue with itunes over my purchases from last year.

Just left tioman - did a liveaboard on a boat as the island was full for a local holiday. Liveaboard was epic - got to do a fair bit of diving - including the HMS repulse and the HMS prince of wales :)
Start back to KL later for a couple of days then a train up to Bangkok (takes 2 days itself).
Im planning to be back in the Uk by Sunday morning (My insurers aint covering me for Thailand even though its settled, and Im done in Malaysia - all I wanted to do was dive those 2 wrecks.) a few days earlier than planned.
All in all trip was good fun, messy nights were had, great places visited, new people met and I dived my first 2 WW2 wrecks :D

Malaysia rocks, Im sitting on a train going north to Thailand with a wireless 3g dongle whatsit in my laptop (oo-er) that only cost me £10 for 5gb of bandwidth, before it needs topping up and that wont happen as I'll be at home by the time Im done with even 1gb of traffic :)
Yes its 3am - I cant sleep as its not a sleeper train and its fucking ice cold (you think id learn after the last cold train!).

I fly with Emirates and all their flights that go over the Mid East transfer through Dubai. I like it as it splits a 12hr flight into 2 6hr flights with a layover over 2-8 hours in a pretty good airport (ie its not a British one).
1hr till they call my last flight. But hey tourny is keeping me amused.

Never seen a airport I like...
Ofc the worst one was the one I flew to Eilat in when I was some 10 years old or so... A active military airstrip in the middle of the desert. One "terminal" and calling that shack a terminal is a insult to terminals hehe.
Weird though since there was a large enough airfield inside Eilat but for some reason the charterplane didn't land there.
