As i am far to lazy to look this up, or read the abortion of a site that is swtor.com what does each class - for both sides primarily do? (So yeah if something can heal but that isnt its primary function then dont tell me).

Ok *puts SWTOR guru hat on*
Jedi Knight:
Jedi Guardian = Tank/single saber DPS (not as much DPS as Sentinel, apparently, but still competitive)
Jedi Sentinel = Dual wield DPS
Jedi Consular:
Jedi Sage = Heals/Ranged DPS (Think Force powers, chucking stuff around)
Jedi Shadow = Stealth DPS/Tank (meant to be very viable as 'avoidance' tanks)
Trooper:
Vanguard = Ranged Tank/Ranged Carbine DPS
Commando = Ranked DPS (assault rifle)/Heals
Smuggler:
Gunslinger = Ranged DPS (cover mechanic)
Scoundrel = Heals/Ranged DPS

Cheers bud.
Thats cleared up some stuff in my mind.

Oh, and for Sith, pretty much mirrors Republic classes, as in:
Jedi Knight = Sith Warrior
Jedi Consular = Sith Inquisitor
Trooper = Bounty Hunter
Smuggler = Imperial Agent

I've just read that Bioware have nerfed the content in the latest build, so that all Flashpoints between 10-30 don't really need a strict trinity group make up. Do 4 DPS can faceroll their way through the content.
Not to sure about this change. I see why it was done, but it doesn't bode well for player skill on those newer to MMO's at endgame. We all had to learn to tank/heal/manage threat somewhere.
Hopefully, it's just Bioware trying differing things out, as I've heard they've also nerfed back the crafting/modding system, but only to test different ends of the spectrum, so to speak. According to Georg Zoeller, the internal build he's working on is far in advance to whats on the beta servers currently.
-
my hope is that they are merely testing different things to get that "happy medium" for release.

This.
Its bad enough such games dumb themselves down (not so much to aim at the casual market as not all casual players are mouth-breathers/window-lickers) over time, without one doing it from release.

I think that is the case. Or I hope it is.
They've totally stripped back the modding system in game, and virtually no items outside of high end items have mod slots. However, devs have indicated they're just testing this model, and internal builds are different.
Surprise surprise, Bioware aren't afraid to use the beta test to test stuff!

It is a bit of a shame that they've nerfed the initial flashpoint, would be good to see the need for a 'proper' group, but it's not the end of the world.
As they've said already, you wont actually get any form of tanking/healing skills until after level 10 when specialising, and up to then all toons will be dps. Would be a bit unfair/not much fun forcing someone to tank a flashpoint with 1 tanking skill. Can see theri point of view on that one. I'd have thought the flashpoints will scale in certain need for certain classes as you progressively gain the skillpoints. Not so much dumbing down as 'bedding you in' (without the rohypnol).

I really really hope they don't go down the WoW road. There should be room for supportclasses as well that might not top any dps meters but bring other valuable abilities to the game. Loltroll (easier to pronounce than LotRO) has support classes if I ain't mistaken.
I would've preferd if they'd taken more than just a page from Stargate Worlds and totally skipped the trinity system in favour of a cover/avoidance/tactical system. But I guess that would've been a bit tougher with Jedi/Sith melee classes in the mix.

we dont do dps meters or other elitist shit
we are all about the fun and if that means having silly group setups to do shit as long as its a blast who cares ;)
