Title: Civ 4 Succession
Post by: Caradir on August 10, 2011, 10:50:03 AM
Huge map, Continents, Warlord Difficulty (to see how we go), Epic pacing, Random Civ

Conquest,Domination and Space race victories on.

    We got Celts

Starting position, gave us Corn and silk. SO food and a trade resource.

Nothing much to report for first few turns, then we became enlightened and founded Buddhism, the meditations started (for those unenlightened, once we get organized religion (monotheism iirc) each city with state religion gains +1 culture +1 happiness and constructs buildings 25% faster) and i shant go into the greater benefits gained from religion later.

soon our scouts encountered another civilization

    and another

Our enlightenment continued with the founding of Hinduism

As Bibracte had grown to a stable size it changed focus away from stonehenge to settling new lands.

Just as the old king was about to stand down another civilization was stumbled upon

The king has died long live the king

(sorted obvious mistake i made with posting same screeny lots, Saffys up)

When its my turn to be God Emperor of all the Celts, be prepared for comedy city renames :)

The king is dead, long live the king!

Turn 32

Celt scouts destroy a barbarian village and rescue a Celt settler family that was held prisoner there. The scouts start to escort the settlers towards their homeland.

When the king receives word of this rescue, he cancels the training of the family that was deemed worthy to settle new lands. Instead he issues orders to use the valuable tools and food to finish the left wing spiritual project started by his predecessor, King Garry. He also orders his workforce to build a road towards the area where the king planned the second town of his expanding empire.

Turn 35

Celtic scouts discover the lands of the previously encountered Arabs

Turn 39

Celtic scouts find more inhabited land. They are greeted by a funny looking man with a wart on his chin. He gives them something called a 'book'. The scouts don't know what it is, until they find out the leaves inside are perfect for wiping arses. Funny gift though...

Turn 40

Celtic scientists finally find out how you can stack one stone upon another. The king now orders them to investigate the rumour that stuff called 'seeds' can grow into plants when put into the ground.

The settler family finally made it to the location where the king planned a new town. They unpack their things and build their first house. They begin training a family member for 'improving stuff'. Whatever that means...

Meanwhile, in lands far, far away, Celt scouts meet people calling themselves Khmer.

Turn 41

Celt roadbuilders connect the seat of the king to the newly settled lands, enabling trade between the two towns.

Turn 42

Jeez, how many different people life on 'our' continent?! Celt scouts meet the 'Persians', who also think they have a right to live here.

Turn 48

200 Years after the first rumours. Celt scientists finally manage to grow a plant from a seed. About time...

Because the current king does not want to upset his ancestor whose dream was to discover 20 different religions, he orders his scientists to find out how to change peoples minds into thinking that only one (not two, and not five and a half, just one!) god exists.

Turn 51

Some guy comes and tells us we suck. The king has his head chopped off.

Turn 52

A period of pillage and loot. Celt scouts snatch a village away from foreign scouts and loot 66 gold pieces. Meanwhile more to the north, other scouts loot 58 gold. Quite nice in a time where the empire spends more gold than it gains.

Turn 53
Far to the east Celt scouts discover a similar great water as is known close to the west.

Turn 54

An interesting looking circle of stones is built in Bibracate. New age is born. Our ancestor will be pleased.

Although there is still a family around that is halfway through the lessons "how to build a town in 100 days", the king decides to order the local thugs to go and find some clubs first. This will give the local populace some time to give their offspring much needed lessons in hill climbing. Someone told the king that that would earn him 4 'hammers', which, he is told, is a good thing.

Turn 55

While scouts defeated a big bad wolf, more lands around Vienne are claimed from wilderness.

Turn 56

The lands where the previously encountered Khmer come from are discovered.

Turn 57

Using the newest technology, some working folk create something they call a farm. This enable bakers to create whole corn loaves in stead of just slices of whatnot.

Turn 59

After 175 years, the local thugs have finally found the clubs they are happy with. The lessons on 'how to build a town in 100 days' are finally continued, while people climb the hills to the south of Bibracte.

Meanwhile, Celt scouts discover the lands that the Persians call home.

Turn 60

The king turned old, very old... On his death bed, he calls his advisers and asks them if he did well. They do not answer that question, but show him maps of his towns and the lands his people discovered.

The King's sigh of regret that he did not have more time to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no Celt has gone before turns out to be his last breath.

King Jon move your arse

Hush, you know how long it takes to comedy rename cities - especially after we converted to Judaism :)

Ive 20 turns left to go of my reign so ;)
Title: Re: Civ 4 Succession
Post by: Mangala on August 18, 2011, 09:12:52 AM
So, King Me took the throne, and immediately renamed the two cities to Buckfast (was to be called Tartantown, but shortly after it changed to that, King Me got an rash from tartan...) & Glasgae Rangers (Im sad I know), and made plans for the next town to be settled to be called Brigadoon.

Pre-rename of the rename.

Post rename of the rename:

Along the way we discovered Monotheism, and converted to Judaism. So now we are Jewish+Hindu Buddhists, that dont eat bacon and worship cows while bothering about Karma. Its awful, no bacon or steaks dude!

We had some hero scouts too:

However it wasnt to be, and various scouts fell to barbarian warriors suddenly coming out of the trees :(  Much sadness was felt throughout the land.

Cottaging is now legal in our nation, thanks to Leonard Nimoy, that great Hindu+jewish+Buddhist God:

In 2075, it came to pass and the town of Brigadoon was settled.  One day they'll make a very bad musical film reel about this momentous occasion:

And the god Leonard gave us fishing, we can now feed our vastly increasing population. Maybe Hinduism was a bad idea...

After discoveries of Bronze Working and starting to domesticate animals, the reign of King Me came to an end :(
Title: Re: Civ 4 Succession
Post by: Caradir on August 18, 2011, 10:40:25 AM
So Garry II took reign of the Celtic nation, and set out correcting the mistakes of his predecessors. Namely taking away from his workers the ability to decide themselves what work to do. He noticed that they were doing stupid things and didnt like that.

He alo decided to rename his cities namely by sorting out the proper Celtic colloquialisms .

he viewed his starting domain, and wondered why when Buddhism was the state religion that some cities were building heathen buildings, but as he believed in freedom of belief left them alone.

It wasnt long until his esteemed Nimoy gave knowledge of herding animals.

and so the Celts decided to start work on written language else some of the beliefs they had  become confused via oral tradition.

Soon a world traveller proclaimed the Celts as the most cultured place on the planet, and gave Glesgae Rangers the title "Cultural city of 1475 BC"

So a written language was decided on to make passing knowledge through the ages easier. but alas the big wall that Glesgae Rangers was building to promote its cultural heritage went overbudget and so the bricks were sold to another country.

The Buckie Triangle produced another jakie (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=jakie) who stumbled along the coast and founded Haggis Toon who immediately decided to start building a big church so the could be good on Sundays and eat fish on Fridays.

The last Celtic scout was "set aboot" by 2 apparent barbarians (the assumption is that they were Angles in reality) which was sooo obtuse.

Alas it became time to stand down just as Garry II was getting things the way they should. The workers were no longer doing "what they liked" but instead were following strict orders, and the roads and building of a great nation wre advancing. His people were also very close to realising that as well as letters numbers were great too.

Saffy2 finds the empire in what he thinks is a poor state. All scouts have died, and the empire is only defended by 2 warriors. The infrastructure around and between the towns is lacking and there are not quite enough workers to change this anytime soon. To make matters worse, three out of the four towns are working on large projects, that, although they might turn out into unique buildings that will make us stand out in the world, are a huge drain on the empires economy and may prove a waste of time if other empires finish a similar project before us. However, because quite some effort has been put into the projects already, Saffy2 decides to make do and hope for the best.

The first thing Saffy2 does is tune down the amount of gold that the scientists get paid. Although that will mean they work slower, it will mean a more healthy economy. Saffy2 also thinks the effect on the current research project will be minimal.
Other than that, Saffy2 orders a worker to mine for copper so we can use metal weapons and better defend our empire. As a quick patch, Brigadoon will build an archer as soon as the granary has been build.

Then Saffy2 takes a look at how his empire fares compared to the other empires that compete for dominance on the continent.

That's not looking too shabby.

Things get even better when the principles of mathematics are discovered. Celtia enters the classic era.

The empire harbours a lot of plants that can not be farmed like the other crops. Timing is very important to grow these plants successfully, so we will need some method to keep a track of the seasons. An island some ways of the coast is rumoured to hold clues on how to do this. It is decided to find a way to get to that island first. At that time a flag pole snaps because a sudden gust of wind tugged at the cloth of the flag so hard. An idea is born on how to propel a vessel to the island. Now to work out the details...

Civilians of Brigadoon bring out their first load of copper from the newly established mine. It is brought to town to forge weapons as soon as possible. The empire is still largely undefended!

Meanwhile, a man with a beard is born in the capital. People somehow worship this freakshow baby... When the baby dies before even reaching his first birthday, they erect a large building to his honour. Pilgrims come and go to visit his grave, bringing culture from far away lands and of course... commerce!

The first experiments with copper weapons show that simple bums are lacking the skills to properly wield axes. Saffy2, decides that a training program needs to be set up before more warriors are given the new weapons.

Scientist discover a way to safely mount a flagpole on a ship and set flag for the island to search for the clue that is rumoured to be there.

Protests erupt in the capital. Rumours about savage warriors roaming the land frightened the people and they demand Saffy2 protect them from this threat. Luckily Saffy2 was in time with having the archers trained. They are sent to march to the capital.

Flagors tell tales of a strange way of looking at the world. Saffy2 is confused...

Concerned civilians did research on how well protected the empire is as compared to other empires. Saffy2 points out that although the current situation does not look good, he is making progress. The civilians acknowledge that in the last few centuries the situation is getting less grim, but stress the importance of a decent military. Saffy2 could not agree more. Not only the barbarian hordes pose a problem, but he thinks we can not stay too far behind when compared to other empires too. He heard stories of a land called India, that built lots of unique wonders, but crumbled in 4 turns (whatever that might be) when they were attacked by another empire.

After thinking some more about the threat other empires may pose, Saffy2 decides to pull away some informants here, and send them to there, as to get a more complete picture of what is going in the other empires on the continent.

Then one of the unique buildings I mentioned earlier is finished. Saffy2 calls it Oracle and when you look at it from a funny angle, you can see a cross. Christianity is born.

Then the first roaming bands of barbarians reach the empire's boarders. Saffy2 is glad he had some sense and had warriors trained to meet this threat. Not long after that, two more groups are spotted. All are quickly disposed off.

Saffy2 hears rumours of warriors fighting from horseback. Intrigued, he orders horses to be caught to be able to do the same. Unfortunately, his people have been unable to catch horses so far away and then bring them alive and well to the empire. Saffy2 orders the lessons 'how to build a town in 100 days' to be dusted off and a family to be prepared to settle lands where horses are available. As soon as suited lands are found the lessons for the new family start.

Saffy2 notices that warriors that have drafted from hilly terrain fight better in that terrain. He orders that some artificial hills are to be build near the training facility. They are built so that they also form a barrier against enemies.

However, before he can admire his empire's new expansion, Saffy2 dies and leaves the empire in the following situation:

"Whiny git who drags his feet" rose to take on leadership of this great nation, and having seen the ponderous essays on everything from the country itself to what he had for tea, written by his predecessor he thinks "blow this, lets get some artists up in here" (Just in a classical language obviously).

Archer being produced. By unknown:

Before, the Artist could continue, some Classical oik weighs in and says we have the most warm bodies.

Personal Whiny thinks that they are all tax dodgers, as no way do we make loads money from them all... PRobably because they have no idea when the Tax season is, however as would have it, Calendars appear:

With a bonus, plantations.  "Lots of Southern Belles to meet and to er... greet. I do declare" thinks Whiny.

Suddenly Whiny has an idea:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtXFDkdHkBc

Which leads to this:

A settler emerges in Buckie Triangle and is sent off to live in a place with Horses.  He eventually founds the town of Slumpie:

And gets some workers over to get those Horses reigned in (totally punning dudes!) and put to some use.  Bring it on Saladin:

After a few years of workers working, warriors warrioring and stuff along those lines, it seems our population really doesnt have much to do in the evenings:

Although how they found the strength after building the Pyramids is beyond Whinys train of thought "mmmm servant girls"

Remaining few years passed very unventually, 2 new towns were founded. 1 because bananas have a humourous shape and the other because there was copper nearby and we need that to make weapons for the fu, er to make peaceful plowshares and the like.

So the new king stepped up to the throne and surveyed what was his, he noticed the lack of workforce and set about sorting that out, he also noticed that his ancestor had allowed "foreigners" to set foot freely upon his lands, that was soon put a stop too.

It wasnt long until the people finalised their usage of a written language and formulated an alphabet

an old man reached enlightenment in Buckie triangle and built another great building of faith

and Brigadoon finished its terraced garden project, making the empire healthier

some bloke proclaimed the Celts as the biggest empire

The King rejoiced at having completed one of his aims, spreading the state religion to all cities ensuring the builders worked faster due to them feeling closer to the deity

after more "sorting shit out" as the king was heard to quote, a brain person came up with the idea of round bits of metal called "coins" to pay for things

the king was reday to stand down but had a view at his governments policies

he crawled away to die and wondered what the other 2 families whos turn to rule came after his would bring.

Sucked, how are historians meant to judge your actions from that.  Seriously, some people. Hopefully your  descendants will just assume that one was the milkmans kid, and get back to 2properly documenting history as it happens.

So, I followed my illustrious predecessors, hoping that my reign would be one of Glory and Conquest, however it was one of internal development and some discoveries and the finishing of the Great Wonders laid down by my predecessors.

First off, Tartar was renamed Goes with Fish, as a celebration of our Workers reaching it and beginning its rebirth into a functioning and regular part of our Empire.

(Shot taken before the rename)

Turns out we had some spies so I set them to formenting revolt in the nearby cities of rival, lesser empires:

This was quite fun to do in fact (although as an asside, all of them seemed to be successful - bug?)

The Hagia Sophia was completed in Haggis Toon in 1030 AD:

Haggis Toon has such a nice ring to it as what I hope will become THE premier trading port on this world.

One of the biggest discoveries we made was Machinery, ushering in an eventual array of others that could change the fabric of our very empire:

Just seems to be alot of damn jungle around potential Watermill sites, although I seem to have embarked upon a Windmill creation program of which even the Dutch would be proud (Hai Pieter).

Some monkey then fails to list us in a list of Powerful Civilisations, muppet.

How dare he, one day his kind will be used to test fragrances for our women...

For a few years now, our neighbours had been trying to get Open Borders, or offering Tech for a Tech+Gold from us, I told them all were to go, until Mao saw sense (probably had it talked into him by one of those prepubescent virgins he likes so much):

I know Aesthetics isnt awesome, but he gave us money, and we gave them Theology, we can only hope they'll fall under the sway of our numerous religions and not eventually follow Mao's words when he long dead...

So yeah, turns out we can have Gladiator Leagues (Gladiators, are you ready?!) if we just build enough Colosseums, so get to it my predecessors. I have started this monumental task, you all should follow it. Are you not entertained?!

We also - as another good trade - received the knowledge of how to better make our Workers and population much more useful:

Hope our people love it as much as we do.

Haggis Toon is on its way to becoming a great city of Ship Builders, and eventually explorers, when it launches its first hull, a Trireme:

Finally the big one hits, totally ensuring how place as the voice of god (no, we are not Alan Rickman) on earth with power that descends directly from him. Divine Bloody Right:

Downside is we founded Islam - although we may have a better run with it, as no Oil here (yet):

And the following few years passed very uneventfully, it was very quite in our lands.

spies  % success based on number of  espionage points built up for that civ and it spends them as payment, unless they have a spy running counter which makes it harder, best defence against spies is simply to have far more points against them than they do against you.

BUT please dont use them as they cause so much agro

as is evident on our current wars :S

as nub king forgot where his screen print button was hers an overview :S

Upon taking the throne the new king looked over his lands, and started work on the sports league his people wanted.

he noticed again that a previous King had allowed the workers free reign on improving the land, as his great grandfather had taught him he soon put a stop to that as he was aware of them doing stupid wasteful things such as, building villages on grassland and as such set them about on a program of spreading irrigation throughout the land.

The cities were flourishing, and he noticed that someone had commissioned silly spy units, he set them to exploring rivals lands, not that it mattered when the known world decided that everyone should open all borders :S

scientists discovered many new techs and all was looking good until both the romans and the Chinese declared war at the same time. It was now that the king looked upon his pitiful army and saw that not only did he have no offensive ability but also that the defense of his cities was sorely lacking and set about upgrading and building units to make sure that each of his beloved cities would have adequate defensive units.

Then he died.

et tu, brute

(worst write up ever as i r nub)

Saffy3 came in to power and saw the empire threatened from the Romans from the east and the Chinese from the south.

Assessing the state of the empire, Saffy3 was pleased to see that the capital was the greatest city on the continent. He also saw that the puny Mayans owned the 2nd and 3rd best cities. Once he got out of the shit he was in currently, he would have to pay them a 'visit', Saffy3 thought pleased.

Saffy3 was also pleased to see that his people were still the greatest civilization known.

However, the empire wasnt doing great in all aspects.

Especially the power of the army was a point of concern. Saffy3 was sure the annals said that his namebearers before him had always advocated a decent army. With the empire being threatened from two superiour armies from two sides all he could say was: "I hate to say I told you so". Not that this was of much use to him now, as there was noone to listen and he was the one to make things right again.

The work his predecessor had done for modernizing the army surely helped. An attack from the Romans was beaten off.

But a greater threat loomed in the south, where two cities were practically undefended. Saffy3 decided to pull back his troops (or 'troop' rather) from 'Goes with Fish', as not to waste his precious few units against such a superiour force. Run to fight another day!

The only positive thing was that the Chinese were also involved in another war, which would hopefully mean that the Celt empire did not need to bear the full brunt of their force (yet).

Around that time Saffy3 also called back his spy units, one of which was freezing his butt off for no sensible reason. Saffy3 was sure those spies were of much better use in the homeland, defending against enemy spies. Did Saffy2 not build them with that in mind??

Saffy3 also looked for help with the other people on the continent, but they were not of much help.

People with frozen butts sure stand out! One of the two Celts spies was captured and tortured to death. Nipple clamps were supposedly involved...
Meanwhile, Goes With Fish falls to Chinese troops.

Meanwhile, another great religious building project was finished. This would help the empires coffers with extra income from reli-tourism.

Do miracles exist? In the same year as the Spiral Minaret was build, help came from another god, offering us a way out of one war at least.

The loss of another city was the price to pay. However, it would soon be quiet on the eastern front, and Saffy3 already ordered the troops there to move to the southern front and help liberate the two lost towns.

But the miracles of 1375 were not over yet: a great general arose in the Celtic lands.

Inspiring the Celtic troops to retake No ha-ha in the same year.

In thanks for these divine interventions, the Masjid Al-haram was founded in the city where Islam was founded. Reli-tourism would flourish even more!!

Five years later, all the votes were counted and it was decided there would be a 50 years peace treaty between Celtia and Rome.

To help meet the demands of well trained units, a military academy is founded in the capital. Here, officers will be trained to lead the troops into victorious battle!

All this fighting however, is sapping the Empires strength.

While the army takes as many losses as it gains.

With the Chinese almost being driven back from Celtic soil, Saffy3 begins to prepare for an assault for his own. A preparation that would prove to demand a long breath...

The last attack on No Ha-ha is beaten off. The tides seem to have turned!

Some guys' greatest achievement is finding out that water is wet. And Celts being the culturalest of all.

Meanwhile, the Celts are now getting up to speed building it's army. However, the Chinese arent standing still either...

Other cultures are trying to benefit from our hard earned technologies, even the Romans, who not long before tried to take things from us by force. Of course, we say nay to every last one of them. Great as we are, we can find out everything for ourselves soon enough and their gain would be greater than ours. Saffy3s plan is to keep them as backward as possible, so their people are more easy to conquer later on. All this culture we are gaining is nice, but it would be for naught if we would not 'spread it along'.

The uneasy peace between the Celts and the Romans comes under more strain when a Celt noble decides his Roman bride actually doés look like a pig (as one of his friends suggested). Saffy3 is glad the forced peace treaty between the two peoples lasts for a little longer.

Saffy3 is even more glad for this when it becomes known that the Khmer chickened out of the war with the Chinese. The struggle in the south will become quite a bit harder now.

As Celt troops take up positions to take back Goes with Fish, Celtic scientists discover the principles of engineering. This will prove of great essence for the war, because now trebuchets can be build to attack cities, pikemen to better attack enemies on horseback. The improvement of the roads this means is of no less importance, as this will mean that troops can now travel to the battlefront much quicker!

Saffy3 now orders to have guilds be established in his empire. This will attract strong warriors on horseback, much needed in the fight against the military superiour Chinese!
After that Saffy3 orders the development of the printing press to bolster his economy and replaceable parts to improve the empires productivity! Better economy is more army he thinks! More productivity is more army he thinks!

A wealthy merchant sets up shop in the city that he thinks has the best financial potential. No Ha-ha might turn out to be one of the empires most important economical centers. A bold move however! The Celtian-Chinese war rages on just a few leagues away!

Unbeknown to his people, Saffy3 has ordered a seaworthy ship to set sail to the west to discover new lands to conquer once the annoying people on this continent are dealt with.
Several new cultures are discovered over the years.

In 1430, while the Celtic troop presence on Chinese soil ever increases, the forced treaty with the Romans ends after 50 years of peace. Saffy3 will have to keep an eye on Roman troops at his eastern borders again. However, for now retaking the Celtic second port - Goes with Fish is more important. And because Saffy3 does not like to be kicked in the teeth without some gain in then end, he has his army set up position around the closest Chinese town too.

However, as over time the offensive force of the Celts grows, so does the defensive force of the Chinese.

Victory! 1440 is the year that the Celtic people from Goes with Fish are reunited with their own again! Saffy3 now concentrates all his forces on the city of the wretched Chinese! But the Chinese forces from the Khmer front would come back before Saffy3 could muster a large enough force at the Chinese gates. He would have to wait even longer.

Another military academy is built in the Celtic empire. In Slumpie this time. All for the good of the war!
Attracted by this new development in Slumpie, a master blacksmith decides to settle there. Some whisper he's actually a Chinese fella who foresaw the future of a Celt victory over all of China!

Another military academy is promptly opened in Buckie Triangle, but... No blacksmith... Bummer...

Guilds are founded, heavily armed and armoured knights will now roam the lands of the Celts from now on!

In 1480, the Sistine chapel is built in another empire. "Good! More cities to conquer!", Saffy3 thinks.

Feeling that he won't have much longer to live, Saffy3 had ordered the growing armies in the south to start tearing down the walls of the Chinese city with all the artillery he has built. From his sickbed he hears that almost no stone is standing on top of the other, but that still too many troops are hidden in the rubble. Saffy3 will not live to see the capture of Hangzhou anymore. And the Roman army lurks in the east...

On his deathbed Saffy3 hears he's done ok regarding the circumstances. But there's still a battle to be won over the Chinese, on whom the Celts didnt take ground regarding the military. However, when total power is regarded, the Chinese are starting to fall behind. The Celts must be cautious not to loose the advantage over the other cultures though!

What I'm concerned about however, is that I might have put a heavy load on the forums gallery. I have no clue how much data you can store there and I wouldnt want you to pay extra because I can't restrain myself with the Print Screen button. Think this writeup adds up to about 10M alone   ???
Also, it seems I cannot delete any misuploads form the gallery, but that's just one or two.

Following on from Saffys rule will be hard thought Jon I (The first openly English ruler of Celtia) to himself, he has me embroiled in a war with the rice-eaters to the south, and war is just bad man...

Anyway, the war stalemated, with the city of Hangzhou? unable to be caught, and yet unabled to be rescued.  Eventually the Apostolic Council ended that war against Kiddie Fiddler Mao's wishes, and an era of prosperity and happiness was returned to Celtia, however spais were every were from lots of nations, so I setup a counter intelligence group that is weeding these people out, I called it the CIA (Celtia Intelligence Advisory).

While this was going on we entered the Renaissance, hopefully all the god bothers will get out of the palace and let my scientists and artists back in, cannot keep hiding behind the couch when the religious show up can we as a nation?!

We also discovered the Printed word - this is probably a bad thing as the Church is likely to jump on it and use it in the furtherance of its "message".

Following the war, and on advice laid down by my predecessor about our other neigbours, I kept up a program of military expansion in alot of our cities, or made it so that other cities could join our military-industrial complex at a moments notice by building barracks and forges all over the place. Also it seems that despite the war, and our refusals to share with those around us, we are still well liked:

I was walking through - well being carried on a palanquin - the shopping district of Buckie one day when I suddenly thought, that having to take all my gold everywhere even to get a coffee, was just too much, and that a safe house would be needed for it, that maybe others could use to, and if the gold was looked after, maybe it could make more gold.  Banking was discovered:

The Apostolic Council thingy named me head too, then didnt tell me how to propose resolutions or anything...

Some numbers, as my predecessors seemed to like them, and I have to admit they were useful, maybe you my successors will find them of use too.  I downsized my staff to pay off the war loans, so am unable to interpret them sorry.

Then I went an lived another 50 years, so this information will have been of little use, except as proof I could have employed some statisticians after all.

Pericles, that wonderful like moussaka salesman, traded us Philosophy, which is nice, although, Liberalism and Nationalism, dont sound like Royalty & our Divine Right has a place in those systems:

Still I decided to research Nationalism, it may be something I can play on with the masses, or if not I then my successors. Something to get their blood up maybe, get them angry and those rice-eaters and pasta-eaters...

Im on my deathbed now, and Livy sends me a note.  Dumb as history types, what do th... (lots of death throws and wailing of wimmin all over the realm followed)

So it came to pass that King Garry IV took the throne of the celtic empire, and lo and behold the warnings left by his forefathers about the other Tri-Kings were true.

Upon summoning the foremen he found that they had been given free reign once more to "build what we like guv", Garry IV had them hanged and set about sorting the mess that had been ravaged on the Empires resource fields.

Also upon summoning his generals he noticed that they had taken poor choices on the training of troops, training horses to run away does not a strong army make, especially when they dont run away when attacked. He also noticed that archers had been focusing on "shooting fast" rather than accurately or with strength. Instantly he proclaimed that his generals would no longer waste resources on those training styles and would instead focus on useful training.

Garry IV was also heard to comment that turn 352, year 1 of his glorious reign was not divisible by 30 +1  (whatever he meant by that) so assumed that as his great great grandfather was last from his family to take the throne as Tri-King for his family and had a short reign that he would endure longer.

Years of rebuilding after the wars had ravaged on the Empire began and the army was moved to protect against the "rice eaters" as Garry didnt trust them, and focus was shifted to making sure all cities had proper defense available to them.

Garry IV also vowed to increase spending on espionage and set forth 10% of income to do so, as history showed the neighbours werent always friendly.

Soon the distrust was to be prophetic

The first attack of the traitor rice eaters was to wipe out half of the Empires army due to the poor training they had previously recieved. Focus was shifted to producing replacement troops and start pushing towards a victory.

It took many years to start from 0 and rebuild an army capable of taking the well defended cities of the rice eaters however upon Garry IV retirement he sighed with relief that he had done just that as Hangzhou, the closest city of the traitors was left with only Trebuchet upon its walls.

he left the victory to the incoming new King from another family.

Also during Garry IV reign  the great Celt scientists developed new ideas and technologies

The scientists came up the idea of free thinking and free thought. Whilst the king also believed in attaining these things, eventually, he told them to keep such things quiet from the unwashed until a future date.

The philosophy of teaching the soldiers that before they enter battle they are already winning.

and other techs including education and some more that went unrecorded due to the top scientists experimenting with hallucinogenics.

Garry IV had been told that some of the other families liked "graphs and stuff" so he too god the royal mathematicians and statisticians to draw some during his last year of reign.

He noted on this one "think we can all see when the rice eaters attacked"

Whilst he was happy at having 1 city in the "top 5" he felt that perhaps the Celts should be holding all 5 spots, he put this down to the other families having a "thing" about not building wonders.

So Garry IV stepped down from the throne to concentrate on his cheese and beer making, and passed the throne to the next family to do with as they wished. His only hopes were that no more would they give the workers free reign to build what they liked  and destroy old improvements made. He also left knowing that the army was in a better position than it had been but still needed more strength before it could become feared.
