Title: Dragon age: Origins
Post by: Gunnarr on August 02, 2009, 01:13:59 PM
I completely missed this little Bioware project....but I must say it looks pretty! :)
Guess I'll keep an eye on it from now on.

Trailers:
From E3:

Gameplay: http://ve3d.ign.com/videos/50817/PC/Dragon-Age-Origins/Trailer/Flemeth-High-Fight-Trailer  <- this one impressed me most, the trailers are probably prettied up anyway. :)

If I get an rpg in the next few months, this is probably the one. Been keeping an eye on it ever since bioware announced it a few years ago.

For those who have been asleep , this could possibly be the best RPG on PC in an age ;)

Fileplanet (I know I know), has the Character Creator tool available to download:

Other sites may pick this up too - hope so as I cannot remember my login at mo :)

I hate choice!

I used to pre-order, but its a bit silly down here in socal.  Fry's Electronics always has a wall full of any popular, new game.

going to get it on day of release could be a bit dodgy pre-ordering with the threatened postal strikes unless you go down the DDL route.

Already went with Game - decided a game like this deserves to have an actual place on my shelf :)

Also, anyone know if the game supports MP of any sort? Would be good to play a coop game thru etc etc

No MP they wanted to make the most awsomesauciest SP game they could.

but who knows what the modding community will do when the design kit is out ;)

Any word on whether or not there's a trial version? Friend of mine at work is asking about it.

EDIT: Is the music Marilyn Manson?

Dont think there is a trial/demo - bio dont do them iirc.

However they have done this neat flashgame: http://www.dragonagejourneys.com/

Im tempted to order it thru steam and cancel my game preorder - steam has a deluxe digital edition with loads of added content...

decisions decision

game has many items (5 (i think) including an unlock for mass effect 2) and an exclusive quest and character.

or steams 2 items and exclusive quest and keep with storage

i bet whats missing from each will be available as DLC later, or *cough* torrent.  as i know i torrented Fallout 3s extras.

Wouldnt surprise me about DLC - and tbh I do like owning actual media for biowares games (despite a second monitor, a manual in my hands is always good).

For us continentals, the choice is rather simple: buy it on steam for 50(!) euro, or buy it through a UK based store *cough*Gameplay*cough* and get it for 28ish.
Too big a difference there for some virtual items to swing the balance.  ;D

went and got mine from a rl shop /faint

found it a bit fiddely to begin with as i always use arrow keys for movement as im left handed.

second time in the starter cave is a bit hard for my rogue char may make some other class.

it is as they wanted the best single player game they could make without balance issues etc

Just found I can connect this to my old Bioware account - yay :D

Just wish I could get steam to work and add it into that if possible...

well yes a great game but................................

did they really have to put a npc in the game saying to you hey we have more great content for you why dont you whip out your credit card and buy this extra content.

does bioware not realise its an rpg where immersion is the name of the game.

if i had known it had a dlc npc in the game i would not have bought it even if the game was the best one ever produced.

just for the principle of it.

Fingers crossed it will arrive tomorrow.

You'll lose days once it does arrive, its that good :)

Graphically its jaw dropping on a par with certain parts of Lotro for me (with DX10 ofc), plot is great, Biowares IP is brilliant if a little done to death in fantasy.

Just wish there was an auto loot!

I'm looking forward to it - not sure if I will get chance to play it until the weekend (damn work keeping me busy!) - Bioware are another Company like Blizzard IMO, they don't make many games but what they do do are always very good.

Still waiting....
Gameplay said they'd use a courier service to avoid delays caused by the mail strike - so either the courier service is darn slow, or they only use courier for UK deliveries.

O well, I only just finished Stalker, and I still have the Witcher and Mass Effect on the shelf. Plus I'll be working every day this week....I was hoping to get it before this weekend, but now it really doesn't matter too much any more.  :-\

52hrs in, 25% of game done and 55% of the world finished.  Its epic...

52hrs in and only 25% done! Sheesh! Its huge!

Got it, started as a Mage and absolutely loving it so far. And what is unusal for me is that I am finding the storyline engaging. There are points in the game that I have thought, what if I had done something differently, would it affect the outcome of certain events?

Its totally engaging!

I worked out that the different origins will add to the total %age done, but yeah its MASSIVE!

I keep playing it and wondering how good it would be as the basis for an MMO - the world is very fleshed out with one of the best stories I have seen, even if at times its a touch clichéd.

Finally finished my first playthrough....

Said it before, but epic game is epic.  The story trails off for a while once you have done some certain things, but for the ending i got it sure picked itself up!
