Title: [DEVBLOG] Ore Primae Ship - Gift to all Capsuleers
Post by: Mangala on June 24, 2010, 09:02:57 PM

Today, Outer Ring Excavations [ORE] CEO Afait Assette surprised New Eden with an announcement in what seemed to be an impromptu but well-orchestrated press conference from the normally tight-lipped executive. She led off her prepared statement with the following message addressed to all capsuleers.

"ORE has prided itself on being at the cutting edge of the multiple industries based on extraction and refinement of natural materials. We have provided capsuleers with the ships, knowledge and materials to retrieve innumerable resources, from some of the rarest minerals in the universe to the humblest chunks of Veldspar. Now that tradition continues. I am here to unveil the Primae, a technological marvel capable of catalyzing the recent, burgeoning industries on the planet surfaces of New Eden.

And, now that full production of this robust vessel is underway, I can safely announce that our agents will be delivering one Primae ship to each capsuleer in all corners of the universe, free-of-charge, to try out for themselves. We firmly believe in the proven technology ORE has to offer and trust that pilots everywhere will come to as well, having been given this unique, unprecedented gift to fly for themselves. No strings attached."

With that, Ms. Assette unveiled a marvelous work of concept art for the ship for the stunned crowd, reproduced below.

Following the announcement, Bougale Baille, Survey Manager for ORE, was quoted as saying, "It's astonishing how quickly pod pilots have adapted to planetary production models. Some are turning record profits when compared to industry benchmarks, pushing the limits of what our brightest scientists thought possible."

It is clear that Outer Ring Excavations [ORE] has been closely following the effects of the recent CONCORD decision to lift the universal ban on capsuleer involvement in planetary affairs, searching for opportunities to modify our business to complement the "immortal" pilots and their proven financial and industrial acumen. Further insight into the design process of the Primae project has become available, shedding light on ORE's brilliant business move.

The Primae is a repurposed ORE design intended to ease the task of extracting resources from planetbound environments. Initially devised as a deep space salvage vessel for large-scale ore retrieval from destroyed ORE fleets in pirate-occupied areas, its previous incarnation was made all but obsolete by the arrival of capsuleers on the interstellar scene. Realizing that the ship could, with a few minor modifications, be made into an efficient resource harvesting aid, ORE wasted no time in revamping the design.

A low signature radius (a holdover from its earlier manifestation) adds a layer of defense to the Primae‘s already decent plating. In addition, the ship‘s two large bays have been re-engineered to hold equipment for planetside resource extraction and processed materials, making it an especially useful complement to any planetside harvesting endeavor.

The Primae ship hulls are being transported under contract by Interbus, and are scheduled to arrive in hangars across New Eden beginning next week.

_

Beginning June 29, 2010, you will find the ability to redeem it on your account login screen. You can then assign it to a particular character and a friendly ORE agent will deliver it to your hangar bay. You will be able to redeem the Primae once per active (not trial) account and will no longer be available after downtime on Tuesday, July 13th 2010, so make sure you log in to receive yours.

Furthermore the Primae does not require any special skills to fly, but training at least a minimum of planetary interaction skills and beginning your planetary exploration would help to make the most of its abilities. You may find the planetary interaction tutorial video helpful before you jump in the Primae.

Here‘s how to redeem it:

Log into the EVE Online client.
At the character selection screen there will be a Redeem Items button in the lower right corner. Select the character you wish to receive the Primae and press the Redeem Items button.

Check the box next to the Primae in the confirmation window and press the Redeem Selected Items button.
You will receive a confirmation window that informs you which character is receiving the Primae and in which station it will be deposited. They are always deposited at the character's current location. The ship can not be redeemed if the receiving character is not docked in an NPC station.
Click Yes to accept the confirmation window if you are happy with your decision
Log in to that character and jump in your new ship!
Special Note: You may only make one transaction through this system, which also governs PLEX, per 24 hours.
Enjoy! And fly safe.

Nice looking boat. Will do fine service in my hangar...

Honestly, couldn't they have made a ship that was producable for the PI job?
Or... like... change the naglfar to 3 turrets.... (which would take a year they claimed before...)

Feels a bit like they are handing out ships that they should focus on making new ones that can be made and seed the market.

Made me thinking around the same lines...
How much work do they put into these ships that hardly anyone uses (through lack of 'extra' over other ships or just for the chance of being ganked), while they could've focused on developing new FUNCTIONAL ships or redoing old ones (my preference would be the first plz)

It is very weird yes.
Think they need to do both, a lot of the ships do look dated, especially in comparison to the new scorp model.

new FUNCTIONAL ships or redoing old ones

coming SOON

as part of the biggest expansion ever, they kept hinting at it during tourney.

The scorp was the test model and as it looks fantastic thats the route they are taking i believe.

It has more shield and supposedly a has low sig radius, I'll have to see how low that is and how agile it is. but it's cargo hold is just pretty damn small...
also, the cargo bay for command centres is pretty useless, as you will prolly only use that very few times.

for now, an indy seems better, yeah

Upside: 1.5 days taken off AWU V.

Downside: Safest Route settings under AutoPilot seems to be broken (this may be an upside too).

Re the Primae:

Quote
It is however the most cost-effective PI ship available.

(Seriously though, like with the Zephyr, this is a free gift that looks really cool, and also has a few stats and bonuses just to make it more unique. It's deliberately not supposed to be better for common tasks than other ships, due to the fact that it's free and everyone is given one. Just like the Zephyr is intentionally not better than a Covert Ops ship for scanning, the Primae is intentionally not a better hauler than a dedicated industrial ship that you have to train for and buy. That's not - before anyone jumps in - to say it's useless, because utility is a linear measure not a binary one. You can still use it for moving your PI commodities and command centers. It's perfectly useful in and of itself for certain tasks - it's just not a replacement for a good industrial.)

CCP greysale said that and he has kind of a point, although the ship did need to be a touch more better ;)

To be deployed on July 1, 2010

FIXES

The autopilot was mistakenly providing the shortest route to your destination even when you had the prefer safer option selected. We sent it back to flight school and the safer option is again working correctly.

Some blueprint icons were being displayed incorrectly based on their type. This has been corrected.

An error was being generated while trying to access items in a corp hanger while in space.

You are now able to trash items normally that are located in a corporate hangar array at a POS.

The Planetary Commodities cargo hold on the Primae couldn’t be loaded with Water or Oxygen. It can now.

An error was being generated why you tried to edit more than one contact at the same time. This now works as intended.
