Post by: Caradir on October 15, 2012, 10:18:04 AM
As Jon posted teh crowd sourcing page for this game

http://www.robertsspaceindustries.com/ (http://www.robertsspaceindustries.com/)

Ive been looking for more info on it.

Gametrailers ran this vid showing early development progress and WOW

As Gametrailers vids dont post properly, or link properly,( WTF is that all about?)

Here is a youtube one, that includes the content form the GT vid.

Well considering they have issues getting videos on their own site working flawlessly that doesnt surprise me.

If it's Privateer, I'm in. If it's Privateer 2, I'm out.

He says its everything he has learned from Privateer, Freelancer and Wing Commander all rolled into a Crytek Engine 3 baby.

Freelancer? The game with no joystick support?  ???

Judging by the FAQ it seems it will be sharded. :(

And am I correct in thinking that the only difference between the 30, 35 and 40 dollar options is the title you'll get?

Shards? That's so Ultima Online. Isn't everything phased megaservers these days?

You guessed right. That isn't solved by todays servers. Ad the load is heavier and moor is done serverside. I did read there would be around 100 peeps per server and a friend option so you are on the same shard as your friends

Threadomancy.

Dodgy mail from China. Anthrax? Nay!

I was expecting some embossing for the serial number, but it's flat as a walrus penis. Name blanked out for interwebs reasons.

i love walking in my hangar looking at the statue of my Cutlass

I opened the hangar module and I have never seen my laptop have such a hard time running something.

Also, the ship is fucking tiny. Is that what you were referring to with statue?

IDK What ship you have, i have an aurora, (tiny) a 315 (bigger) and a cutlass (not yet made so you get a statue) :D

i'll make a screenshot

I'm on Bounty Hunter level:
http://starcitizen.wikia.com/wiki/300i (http://starcitizen.wikia.com/wiki/300i)

When I saw it I thought it was a big jet fighter plane not really a spaceship (with living quarters and such). Think X-Wing vs Millenium Falcon.

the constellation is based on the millennium falcon with crew quarters and turrets etc.
although the freelancer also has a turret, beds and a shower/toilet

Full beta around the end of 2014, according to this page (http://starcitizen.wikia.com/wiki/Anticipated_release_schedule). It's a curious release strategy: doling it out in pieces.

But since I just spent 15 minutes looking through the ships page on that wiki, I suppose I'm hooked.

If they get the exploration game right, I could be a very happy star citizen.
Title: Re: Star Citizen
Post by: Bethor on September 15, 2013, 08:53:13 PM
it will get exploration they even plan introducing new systems just by adding them and the path to them has to be found.
Also if you are playing, i've got so call LTI so if you want a package with LTI just let me know and we'll set something up (runs to till the 26th of november)

As for releasing the way they do, they are developing incrementally, and i am guessing the development method they are using is SCRUM. They also set up the game modular, so they are releasing mods that hook into eachoter. Also CR said they are showing us stuff a lot sooner than when they would have been working with publisher.

And end 2014 the beta for the public universe is planned, end of this year they;ve already got dogfighting planned so should be able to fly by than!.

You seem to be rather up to date on things. Is there anything to spend those United Earth Credits on atm? I seem to have received 12.000 of them. In addition to the original backer items and milestone rewards.
Title: Re: Star Citizen
Post by: Bethor on September 16, 2013, 05:13:50 PM
if you received 12.000 credits you are an early backer, so untill the 26th i think of november you get LTI on any ship you buy :D

Also i am a total fanboy so yea i am rather up-to-date :D

As for your question, if you want to spend it, at this time it seems the workbench is best, because that is going to have actual use ingame. That would leave you 2k and you can spend it on whatever you want in your hangar

Personally i am still hanging on to my UEC. As soon as the dogfight module is out we should be able to earn a couple of them so i'm gonna see if i van get a buggy else i will also get the workbench. When the PU (public universe) is out you can earn them ingame. There also i a limit to how much UEC you can buy per day or per week (not sure)
this is to prevent pay to win when the PU is live

By buying a ship you mean spending more real monies through pledging right?

yup od doing away your current and adding extra cash to get a bigger one while riding the fanboi train :D

Is there any detailed info on their exploration system?

I've been trying to think of what a good one would be like in an MMO. The closest I can come up with is a zone that's a cross between the star clusters in Star Trek Online and the unlockable zones in WoW, like the Molten Front. Except that doesn't quite work in an MMO. You'd have to keep adding star systems indefinitely.

In-system surveys, I guess? Chart resource nodes, planets, gas giant moon systems, comets? Regular updating of galactic navigation charts? Better rewards for the zones that haven't been updated in a while/hazard pay for surveying dangerous systems?

I don't know what I want here. I just need it to be awesome.

Well the 18 million dollars they've collected so far should allow them to put in some awesome. Need to make sure I have my shit back together in a year so I can buy a speedy gaming pc. The hangar module rapes my laptop.

we (beyond control) have quiet a gang going for SC now, you are welcome to join us if you are interested

we got around 10-15 eu guys (mainly dutch)  and if everything goes according to plan we'll start out with 10 US guys giving us a nice all round presence

Title: Re: Star Citizen
Post by: Goatboy on September 29, 2013, 11:23:57 AM
Well right now there isn't a game. So there isn't much to get. But gamers have so far stuffed 18 million into this project before they even had much of anything coded. Up to you if you want to be a founder and get the benefits that go along with it or not.
Title: Re: Star Citizen
Post by: Bethor on September 29, 2013, 05:33:20 PM
there currently just is the hangar where you can see your ships. (well not even all of them!)

it has a lot of potential and personally i do think its worth getting but thats just my idea.

@Goatboy, their funding is now $20,384,363 not 18m you should check the site more often :D
Title: Re: Star Citizen

Well here's to hoping they invest that two million in allowing the game to run on shitty computers with potato graphics as well.

i wouldnt count on it, sometimes it seems he wants the "next gen console boys" to cry because their pc boxes wont run the game. (it wont be out on consoles so no crappy ports or whatever)

but i think it was mentioned by next year you'd want at least a good graphics card and a decent amount of Ram in your pc.

Community interaction and open development is allowing CIG to build a more relevant title, Roberts says. "We had all of these things like bounty hunter, mercenary, pirate, merchant, explorer. And I was shocked that 67 percent of the people [Cloud Imperium surveyed] said that they wanted to be an explorer," Roberts said. CIG wouldn't have known how many players prefer non-combat gameplay under the old design-your-game-in-a-vacuum model.

So that's kind of good news. They have to build some kind of exploration system.

alternatively Elite:Dangerous offers you exploration, not as grand as SC but still pretty awesome

There are some advantages to it beeing sharded and encounters are done by matchmaking.
Goons will have a much harder time blockading any one system so grieving will be much harder to do

As long as I can play with anyone no matter what 'server' they're on, I'm happy. Of course I'll be happier if I have some hardware that can actually run the game by that time.  ;D
