We’re pleased to announce the schedule for next week’s Open Beta! On Sunday, August 16th, all characters from Closed Beta will be wiped from the servers in preparation for our Open Beta. When the servers open at 10 a.m. PDT on Monday, August 17th, everyone will have a fresh start, and you’ll be ready to experience the game from start to finish!

Servers will be taken down nightly from 1:00 a.m. PDT to 3:00 a.m. PDT for scheduled maintenance. Other than that, you can play all week long until the 24th. At 10:00 a.m. PDT on Monday, August 24th, the servers will be shut down and wiped once more in preparation for the game’s release. The “Early Start Program” begins on Friday, August 28th, and allows select pre-order purchasers an opportunity to get a headstart on the rest of the world by playing the game a few days before the official release. In addition, all Early Start participants will get to take part in a world event, where special enemies will drop unique items which will only be available until September 1st.

so early start is 28th, and unique item drop for those that are taking part, prob costume pieces etc could be fun.

got my pokemon cap ready :D

Yep it wasnt the WAR headstart that was the problem it was the whole - GOA debacle that really screwed things.  Also, having the key invalid porblems same as Mang (each time I swear on all that is holy that I will only get into an MMO no earlier than a month after launch but I am just a sucker for pre-order goodies)

Well, I've pre-ordered from Play AND Game (hedging my bets here), and have not recieved pre-order info from any of them.

Has anyone recieved theirs from the above retailers yet?

My Game key came today, which is cool, as they had the pre-oder bonuses I liked most. Will give the Play pre-order to Yyan.

Have key, registered with fileplanet, downloaded fine, being ponced around by Amazon.co.uk - key doesn't register on CO site, rolled Slayer and taking it out on DoKs in Nordenwatch (talk about ahead of the curve, my slayer has to wait for his XP to catch up so his RR doesn't go above his lvl excellent for thought free PvP)

Key should work - mine worked this morning (although I had to open the CO site in IE) :)

Open Beta key registered, and liftime sub bought.

I'm in for the long haul on this one.

Locked and loaded for open beta, after wrestling with file planet for the usual half an hour.

all sorted - see you all there.  Any idea when the lifetime sub offer ends? if the game is halfway decent I'm quite tempted.

id imagine its a numbers thing so when the alloted number has been taken then its done.

I'd heard the offer was on till September 1st, so you should have time to try out the Open Beta and buy lifetime if you think its worth it.

I am tempted, as lifetimes are perfect for me with MMO ADD :)

I won't be playing CO, tbh it doesn't look like my kind of MMO (too much generic grinding on first sight) and I don't really think it'll be worth the 40 euro or so to try it out for a month or two.

i dont see the grind TBH more than enough missions to level never found myself grinding to fill a level gap once.

the grind will be to finish perks for unlocks but its not required in anyway and only needed if like me you have a pokemon mentality

Ok, let me rephrase: too many generic missions/quests on first sight (making the game feel grindey) :)

I think thats just MMO's in general. Very few break the mold (Yes, I know EvE is one of them, before you say it Jon :D).

Considering CO is done in the style of most modern MMO's (WoW, WAR, LOTRO etc), I have to agree with Caradir's view.

At least it isn't CoX. Now, that is grindy! ;D

I'll have to agree with you Kurtt. I think most of my MMOing days are over, tbh.
I have some hopes remaining for SW:TOR and Bliz's next-gen MMO, whatever that may turn into...other than that I can't see myself logging on to the same game very day for months anymore.
Things that make questing feel different for me are larger story-arcs, meaningful choices while playing. I know I haven't played much of CO yet, but at first sight it seems like it had very few of those.
That's why I'm thinking it will likely interest me for a few months at first, but no longer. At the moment 1-2 months of play isn't worth ~50e to me.

While this is slightly off topic, you mentioning Blizzards next MMO got me thinking about the upcoming (as yet unannounced) new expansion, Cataclysm. From what I've heard so far, this may well pull me back into WoW.

Damn you Blizz.

Ive read about that - the so called leaks on SA/FOH/EJ make for good reading. Some of them blizz said theyd never do, others are just plain welp :(

Some stuff sounds cool, but it's basically more of the same with some cool twists (like worgen)
The game will still be the same though, probably as easy as the current expansion (so too easy) as Bz looks content to leave it in its current state.
In it's current form, I don't think I'll be pulled back to it, since it left 5-man dungeoning completely irrelevant, and this was what I always loved best.
Apart from that, most of the Blizzard creatives have already been moved over to their secret next-gen MMO, leaving the lesser minds on WoW to mind the store until the last paying wow-customer has been bled dry.
In wotlk, the levelling experience was great, but they'll shorten that in the next expansion (only 5 levels this time), there's no new classes, they won't add a new continent (except possibly the maelstrom, but I don't expect that to be as huge as Northrend, so basically it'll be a few new contents and more endgame. The wow expansions seem to be more and more low-budget to me, actually. :P

Oh, and then there's the fact they're planning to bring dwarf shaman and mages in. Humbug.

Oh no! The Destroids are attacking Millennium City! Gather as many Champions as you can and join the fight throughout the city. From 10AM – 11:59PM PDT on August 24th, waves of Destroid robots will be attacking heroes throughout Millennium City. Mega-Destroids will also be causing mayhem and destruction throughout the city, so team up with as many other players as possible to try and take down these massive robots. You might even find some Destroyer clones appearing and utterly decimating your puny heroes. Can you survive? All participants who help take down a Mega-Destroid will receive special perks and items which will be available to them at launch, including a “Mini-Destroid” action figure. Good luck!

gotta do it for my mini fig collection lols :)
