Time for new blood in our community?
« on: November 15, 2009, 11:03:16 AM »
Need a topic that covers all the groups we have on here!

I feel we should start some limited recruitment across the board for all the games we are (semi)-actively playing to encourage some activity in them all and well, new faces are always good.

We just need specifics on how best to do it for each game and what to say in our posts (except LOTRO as I have one rolling already and have for a couple of years).

So how would you folks do it, do you have ideas for threads and advertising and such?

Ideas for EVE?

Hisec corp with mixed experience, seeks new blood for missions, manufacturing etc

Possible alliance membership - lowsec, wormholes, eventually even spaceholding (dominion related) - to come.

We can offer skilled builders for t1 ships and the like?

We should accept new folks I think too and trials as the majority of us came to EVE the same way, only a couple of us were pre-existing.

Lotro - more traditional format?

Group stuff - really need to focus on that I think?

Hmm. Some things to consider before starting to spam:

    • What are our strengths as a guild?
    Strong community, friendship, maturity....

    • What are our weaknesses?
To make sure our new recruits aren't disappointed.
I'm thinking low(ish) activity in all games, small group of people, no endgame (except possibly in Eve)

    • What makes our guild unique? Why would people want to join HoJ specifically?
Ties in to the first point, but covering specifically this point will make a recruitment post much stronger, usually.

To be honest, I don't think HoJ has that much to offer, from an ingame point of view, with the possible exception of WAR and Eve (WAR depending on how long the endless trial can keep people interested.)
This sounds harsh, and I apologize for that, but I think it's true. Generally the best reason to join HoJ is our awesome out-of-game community. These forums, most of all. :)

Edit: An afterthought:  Will new recruits really tie in with the rest of the guild? They have never played with some of the older members since half our furniture doesn't even play Eve/WAR/LotRO (anymore).
Edit 2: Tidied some jumbled sentences.

Just had similar thoughts myself, which worries me, but it doesnt hurt to try.

We dont offer much others do as you say, but theres people out there who may have similar acivity to us - MMO ADHD - which could be a route in for some, as many view guilds/kins etc as needing a solid time commitment - we dont necessarily care about that (Been there, done that).

Regards new people getting involved on here and getting along with relics like me, shared interest in gaming is a start and seems to have worked for many once they arrive here - even people from iterations long past. (PS Im writing a brief history of HoJ  for fun!).

Im just interested in keeping us going foward with some new folks coming in and joining us wherever, rather than huge expansion or anything.  Admittedly I'll have more time after my trip next year, but I want HoJ to be more than me (and that may be ego talking, but probably truer than I mean it), I'd like it to be about you folks and the games, to continue effectivley when im not about.

think low numbers are a case of too many mmo's in the market and too many not delivering what they promise.

leaving ppl frustrated and dissapointed, we need one killer mmo we can get our teeth into again dare i say like WOW used to be.

but like ppl are saying we are spread too thin to keep any new recruits happy in the long term.

we can always give it a try

[pessimist]
only possible(TM) drawback i'm afraid of is that when we can't keep new blood interested, their leaving may(TM) leave 'wounds' in HoJ, demoralizing the furniture

This, I think, is our main point. It is our strength and it is our weakness. There are lots of game-hoppers around. HoJ is not the only "game-hopper" guild around, but I think many nice people don't know multi-game guilds exist.

I think any recruiting post "spammed" need to have it mentioned. That many of us are MMO ADHD game-hoppers, and we wouldn't mind have more like us along :)

Was going to make the same point as Jarkko.

- Like to try out new MMOs with an established community?
- Like keeping an eye on a wide variety of PC games, and MMOs in particular?
- Like meta conversations about what different games can offer?

Join Hands of Justice: we can't settle on a damned game either.
DC Universe Online (EU PC): Psilance, Psion Hero, Noctirian, Sorcerer Villain
Neverwinter: Theron Dios, Control Wizard (Beholder)
Star Trek Online: Eric@TaithZero
SWTOR: Tarkanian, Sith Assassin (Progenitor) (Inactive)

Thanks.

I figured, turn a weakness into a strength, that sort of thing. It is the kind of gamers you guys are, unlike MMO campers like me. Leaves you fishing for a rarer kind of fish, but I'm sure there's more out there. Worth a try anyway.
