Rather fun few things in there.

Telling people "these are the ships you are to fly" meant their ship class participation went up significantly from having a "fly battleships" order in general.

Not a bad article indeed.  Pretty illuminating.

I do think that limiting the choices people themselves would chose from is best in any situation otherwise you end up with shitfit fleets full of scrub pilots who havent really got skills for stuff they are in.  By imposing limits which pretty much point to what you are happy with then people have an aim, something they feel they can work towards that will help the community of which they are but a cog.
