War - what did we learn?
« on: February 19, 2009, 09:53:39 PM »
As said please discuss lessons learned or to be learned here.  Lets keep the MTCU war thread solely for discussion of that war.

Let's talk about how it went, what we were good at, what we were bad at and what we should do differently.

Edit: Merged a double post :)

1. To speak to the opposition Corp leader and make sure he starts it when im actually on rest days so i can join in.  ::)
............

2. To ensure I have a stockpile of appropriate ships / module / ammo in a seperate system several jumps away from those that are normally associated with us.
3. To ensure that from now on I log off at a station that isnt associated with us once the War Dec is recieved.
4. Better research on my part regarding the opposition.
5 (also see 3 regarding this point) Where possible make sure 'we' as a corp log off at least in the same system or associated systems to enable a quick fleet gathering for when we go on the offensive.
6. To make sure 'we' as a corp have at least 2 safe spots in our home system and each surrounding system prior to war dec starting.
A married man should forget his mistakes.  There's no use in two people remembering the same thing!
Eagles may soar but weasel's don't get sucked into jet engines!

This pretty much sums it up for me too, I think. Add in the importance of holding com-silence on Local, especially during dull times, and it is a good list for first lessons learned :)  Regarding point #3, I intend to log off during wars in the future warping between two safe-spots (as Bethor suggested), as it will make it impossible to camp my location no matter where I am.

1) Intelligence is good.
2) Having an FC leading us in battle is good.
3) Sacrificing a cheap ship is not a problem if we can gain from it.
4) Stockpiles at various stations where we dont have offices is good.

and we need more pvp experience.

and I need to get my mic to work with TS, or set up a vent server.

Assuming you're using Vista running the TS client as administrator should fix your problems.
When it's running as Admin - check the push to talk settings are correct.

Generally installing TS is pretty easy:
1) Download the TS Client installer
2) Download the updated TS binary
3) Install TS from step 1
4) Right click on the desktop shortcut and Open File Location
5) Copy (2) to the location and overwrite the existing binary
6) Run TS as Administrator.  You can either right click and "Run As Admin" or right click, Select Properties, Select the Compatability Tab and then check the box "Run as Admin" at the bottom of the tab.
7) Set the "Push to Talk" button
8 ) Connect to the server & join the AFK channel
9) Test that the little green lamp lights up when you use the PTT button - & you're done :)
