Warhammer Online / Re: Offline Access to Battles...

Ok I've had a go at the Battleground statistics Db, but its proving to be very buggy!

The core issue is that WARDB is inconsistant and sometimes does not display all of the Battleground zones, or misses out some objectives.

When I looked through the JS-source, its all prefixed with WOW stuff and has lots of WoW-references,  so I imagine they pretty much "Copy/Pasted" it from wowhead.com and "bodged" it to work.

Anyhow...

http://www.amagad.co.uk/bgstats.php

Red = Destruction controlled
Blue = Order controlled
Pink = Destruction owned but under attack by Order
Light Blue = Order owned but under attack from Destruction
Purple = Unknown due to bug
Grey = Neutral (not owned by either side)

I'm going to keep working on this,   as i'm not 100% confident on its accuracy..

Once i've got it working,  I welcome anyone to do some kind of "summary" based on results :)

PS.  Its got 2 pixels for every 5 minutes.

I think the 1st point is from RR 60

Then another at 65, 70, 75 and 80.

I read something somewhere that said you get a point in ALL the trees when you hit RR 80,   no idea if that is the case!

I've made another little gimmick,  this one is for the Forum or Homepage if Beo is happy with it..

http://www.amagad.co.uk/marq.php

Beo:  In order to add this code you'll need to add the following code

Code: [Select]
    <?php

    $url
"http://www.amagad.co.uk/marq.php?squig=".rand(0,10000);

$fp fopen$url'r' );

$result "";

    while( !
feof$fp ) ) {

$buffer trimfgets$fp4096 ) );

$result .= $buffer;
    }
   echo
$result;

?>

The squig is just a random value that gets around browser-caching :)

Any problems just shout :)

And for my next trick ...

Like my new signature?

Its a dynamically created JPEG,  based on statistics from WARDB :)

I made it the same length as the other signatures :)

More tricks to come!!

Addition:  Left-side shows split between Order/Destro,  based on BO=1 point & Keep=3 points and doing percentage total.

Ta,

It rips off the JavaScript libraries off the WARDB site,  but its got some unusual bugs..      I've noticed some zones disappearing randomly!

I think WARDB is completely dynamic, so it'll take account of any chances the second they are updated via Curse-client,  however you need to refresh page to see this change.

I want to go further now,    I'm going to develop another version of this App which will write store the statistics to a database,  polled every 5 minutes or so..

This will give us an idea of trends in when Keeps are captured,  which are popular,  which arent..

It'll also give us an indication of any weekly schedules that Destruction guilds might be employing right now..

As far as hosting,  I pay for the hosting as part of my Web-development company, so if anything..    I can take on any hosting tasks that you're currently paying for if you wish!

Ta,

I appreciate the comments guys..

What would be really useful is if you could list the abilities you dont use,  or those you use very rarely..

What you might perceive as useless,  might actually really help another class..

For example....  my WP has 2 curse abilities,     someone else might have an ability that increases damage on cursed targets...    etc etc

Again,  any help is appreciated :)

I have no idea why Scenario maps appear..

I'm taking a pure copy of everything that WARDB.com throws out..

Edit: I've removed them

Ok i've messed about with it and i've got it sorted by TIER.

I've reduced the map size to make it clearer to read.

The BO's are still slightly buggy and its a bitch to fix..

I'll keep working on it!

Any suggestions or chances,  please shout :)

Did this last night,   when I get back today i'll sort it by Tier,  try and fix the locations of BO's and make it a lot more pretty :)

Well the Javascript solution does output the table on the right hand side of the battleground map.

Potentially that can be extracted and could form the basis of a Widget ..

I also have no problem donating..       I can throw together 50-60g which would much better serve the guild then just rotting in my bank account!

Warhammer Online / Scenario Teamplay - Calculating contribution
« on: October 31, 2008, 02:59:39 PM »
Thought I'd have a slight rant, while getting your opinions on somethings that upsets me..

If I came out and said,  the only true TEAM-WORKING in a Scenario PUG is the fact that Healers are healing everyone,   then I don't think I'd be far wrong..  (slight exception may be RP's who resurrect)

As an example,  Engineers have choice of 2 Morale abilities for Rank-2

1)    Increases your damage by 100% for 7 seconds
2)    Decreases all damage your Group takes by 20% for 15 seconds..

I'm no saint, but I'd be thinking to myself..

Option 1 is going to improve my DPS,   therefore improve my Renown and XP..
Option 2 isn't..   although it might mean we win the game..

This is my core point for this thread...        The difference between doing something with measurable contribution and doing something that might win you the game...

I think the same logic can be used for nearly every single utility ability in the game..

From Abilities that drain the enemies AP's,   lower resistances,  lower AR migration or anything like that..

When I played on my Arch-Mage,   I very rarely used the Action-point drain ability..    I just didn't seem to find the time to use it..        I'll also admit that it has no clear contribution to my "Damage Caused", "Healing done"..      So maybe at the back of my mind its not something I consider ..

Do you think the Magus casting the root was to stop everyone, so people could DPS them down,   or do you think he was doing it to save himself?   I'm going to say the latter...

Are you like me?      Do you do everything in those 15 minutes to maximise your DPS or to do as much healing as possible?

That is definitely my priority for majority of the time,   however I will look out for opportunities on how I can help people.

On my Engineer in MT,  I will use Barb-wire when I see the Bauble-holder is running my way and he's being chased...

On my WP in TA,  I will attempt to resurrect Tanks,   because I know how important they are to making advances...

So why is all of this?     Is it because we're selfish buggers?    or is it because Mythic put a Scoreboard at the end of the Scenario, and we're all so god damn competitive?

I'll hold my hands up and say that I will always look after myself first when I'm on my Engineer...

On my WP,  I have been known to sacrifice myself a few times, so that someone can survive...       I'll use my Rank-1 morale ability to keep a Tank up,  knowing that if I don't cast it on myself that I'll die within seconds..

So without annoying anyone or accusing people...

How do you feel about this?      What sort of utilities don't you use?       What examples of team-play are you proud of?

The key purpose here is to find out a LOT of details about the other careers in this game,  by looking at the abilities you don't often see...         Its also to try and understand the difficulties that careers have in using these abilities..

I think overall contribution would greatly improve if we all knew what everyone else does and how we could help them..

Discuss :)

Warhammer Online / Engineer - The life of a suicide-bomber
« on: October 31, 2008, 02:00:17 PM »
Firstly I apologise if the title offends anyone,  its too be taken as a joke, and its probably the best way I can describe my experience as an Engineer!

So I thought I'd do a career writeup for a class that I completely love...

Engineer interested me from the beginning,  but after starting with my WP,   I quickly replaced those interests with fears..      The Engineer class appeared to have low-survival,  low-dps and was almost a comedy-class with gimmicks..

My first experiences of engineers were a rare-breed of RDPS peps,  standing at the back of the pack,  next to his trusted turret and spamming his "Shoot" button..        After the smoke faded,  these engineers were doing worse DPS than the tanks and so I was truly put-off..

But how wrong I was... and I can't begin to say how amazing this class truly is..

My first assumption about this class was that is was a Single-point Ranged DPS class..      I now realise that this is the course of a Mastery-tree called Rifleman....   but nothing like the common "Grenadier" mastery-tree, that the majority of Engineers prefer Pre-T4.

Engineers are in-fact the Gods of AE dmg,    they have so many AE options they cause you to lag due to the huge streams of figures rising from the head of all your victims..

Acid Bomb -  Does AE dmg over 20 feet for 21 seconds
Friction Burn - AE Cone effect for 30 feet,  doing DoT over 9 seconds to each
Blunderbuss Blast - Instant DD AE upto 40 feet.
Frag Grenade - Does AE Dmg over 20 feet for 15 seconds
Land Mine -  DD to all within 30 feet and knockdown for 2 seconds
Napalm Grenade - Static AE dmg, intensifying over time for 30 seconds
Strafing Run - AE Cone DD upto 65 feet
Sticky Bomb - DD effect with DD AE effect on completion over 20 feet
Static Discharge - Instant AE DD over 30 feet
Grenade Turret - Does AE dmg

I'm currently Rank 19 and I've got Acid Bomb, Frag Grenade and Friction burn running all the time..      I'm using Landmines everytime it comes off CD (15 secs) and I've got my Grenade-turret firing away..

The amount of AE dmg that Engineers can put out is scary!

I've managed to top Tier-2 damage charts constantly through this AE dmg..     I've just started Tier-3, but I'm confident nothing will change.

Now you probably wonder why I said "Suicide bomber",  well unfortunately while some of these abilities are instant with decent range,    some are not..         I find myself getting just outside of melee range every 20 seconds or so,   just so I can keep my AE Cone abilities rolling.....  getting my Landmine and Turret replaced.          This is where the suicide comes in..          If you can get in and out without being snared,  you're fine!    However if you are trapped...        Its a bad outlook for you....      If you do manage to get out though...    you can now sit back for a bit and enjoy the firework show of dmg numbers from all over the screen!

Changing subject slightly,   I'm sure you've all heard of the Electromagnet,  its generally what people now associate Engineers with..

In my personal opinion,  this is a large mistake and moving out of the grenadier mastery tree is the worst thing could do as our AE dmg is what makes us powerfull.....   not a 20 CD Gimmick..

I will admit that I've got no experience with either the Rifleman or Tinkering tree's, but based on general concensus on the forums,  I see no reason why you'd bother...

Moving on!     So RVR is crazy,  mental,  fast-paced and a hell of a lot of fun.

PVE?  Well there are no negative points here!         Again, we are Gods of AE..

I'm constantly pulling 3-4 mobs,   using my AE and using ma trusty shotgun (blunderbuss) or firebomb grenade to burn them down..

I find this to be extremely efficient and I'm grinding through the PVE sections much faster than my Warrior-Priest ever did..

OK, so on to Survival..

Engineers suffer a lack of armor and generally low HP's,    but its not all doom-n-gloom!      We have an amazing root skill..   "Barb-wire"..    Its instant and its saved my life more times than I can remember!      Its basically the same as that annoying Purple-thing that Magus do to us...     So you can appreciate how annoying it is!

We also get an early knockback,    and I'm really enjoying my golf games in TA at the moment!

There are a few nifty-tricks down our sleeves too,    Landmine has a knockdown,  Concussion grenade has a decent knockback/DD,  we can even Self-destruct our turrets,  knocking down players for 5 seconds..    which is very powerful!

So to summarise..

I listed 10 AE abilities above,   that is a HELL of a lot of dmg!

While our single-target DPS is very poor (as grenadier at least),   we can put a LOT of pressure on enemy healers from the constant AE damage..

I don't suggest anyone starts an Engineer if you want solo kills,    I think its next to impossible on an Engineer..

Neither should you start if you want large numbers..

I see 30-100 damage all the time, but in the 100's... and that really adds up...     I believe that Engineers are very close to BW/Sorc in terms of overall damage capability..      with their utility on board..     They really should not be ignored!!

Note:   In the same way a WoW Warlock would Dot someone up before dying,  many a time I've died in RvR only to run back seeing the damage still flowing from those DoTs...

So come join in,   I can guarantee that you'll enjoy this class :)
