Warhammer Online / Did you know?
« on: November 12, 2008, 09:40:00 AM »

I find new things out about WAR everyday,  heres a couple you might not know!

  • When you visit a Merchant and wish to dye your items,  if you left-click on a colour it will dye the primary colour of an item. If you right-click a colour, it will allow you to dye the secondary-part of that item.
  • In order to dye your cloak,  take off all your clothes except Cloak,  tick the "Dye All Items" tickbox then select the colour you want.
  • Logging off in a Warcamp or Chapter-camp will give you increased rested-XP.

Please add anything you will think is useful :)

As a Tier-4 update,   my game-plan has changed a LOT!

This may not be relevant after 1.1 with scenario-queue changes but based on thing as they are right now,   you'll be doing SP (Serpents Passage) a LOT.

Due to the nature of the WP,   forcing us into melee in order to provide the best close-range healing,    we now have a key problem..

Quite simply,  the area between our guys and theirs =  Dead mans zone..

A place where only IB/SMs and suicidal people may enter...

Ignore this warning and you'll be DoTTed to hell within 5 seconds,    and die watching your skin burn alive..

It really is a "No go" area,  which causes a very big problem for us..        because we CANT HIT anything!!

If anyone is going to come near you,    its 99% likely to be a tank...    and guess what?     You're melee with no-armor-penetration abilities so you'll be hitting him for 50-100 damage max..

So how have I adapted?

Well i've pretty much shed my DPS gear,    i've now maximised my healing potential and I'm forced into using "Supplication" pretty much every 5-10 seconds..

In fact, I will do AE Heal,  AE HoT,  2-3 HoT's and then i'd be empty..     So I will Supplicate and repeat..

I truly hope by the time I hit 40 that I'm able to wade into the enemy forces,   bash a few heads and show our amazing survival abilities,    because right now..       We have the same survival as a naked Bright-wizard..

Sad times..

On the plus note however,      if you can get AWAY from any other WP or RP in your group...   your AE healing alone can make a real difference..

But SP is definitely the first time where I have thought...        "They would be better off with a RP/AM than me",  because they heal off AP's... not fury

Sad times..

Warhammer Online / Re: Interesting Stats: Population Balance
« on: November 09, 2008, 09:22:02 AM »

Very interesting read..

The things that stand out for me were the number of Sorcerers...

I'm also surprised by the low numbers in Tier-4,  I'd of thought a lot more players would of been 30+

One thing that wont surprise anyone is the lack of Melee-DPS in Tier-4,  with 14% order compared to 21% Destro, although we have a high Ranged DPS percentage of 34% to 26%

Overall healers being the most popular in T4 is surprising too...     especially when RP are among the minority in totals..         So it implies the Healers went all the way to T4, where everyone else stopped before Tier-4 and rolled an alt.

Again,    really good to know.

Warhammer Online / How to pronounce your toon!
« on: November 07, 2008, 08:17:09 AM »

Hey guys (its me, the random post guy!)

I remember spending about a year playing WoW before finally getting TS setup for guild,  only to find that I was pronouncing peoples toons wrong and they were pronouncing mine completely wrong..

So I thought it might be good idea for us to attempt to explain the pronunciation

The server is a swedish 100Mbit, so it'll be fine :)

In the end its to stop the Browser from caching the result of the link, which you think it should do, since the result is different!

Also,  the Battleground DB is far too buggy (and broken!) and I really can't see any useful statistics coming off it, due to the inconsistent nature of the WARDB.com site,  so therefore i'm going to turn it off and remove it.

I'll keep a backup incase WARDB ever fixes the problems (which is doubtful as they did a straight copy/paste from WoWhead.com)

Warhammer Online / Pots for PVP!
« on: November 06, 2008, 12:38:56 PM »
Ay'up guys,

Don't know if you guys had realised or not,  but it IS possible to use Potions in PVP/Scenarios..

http://www.wardb.com/item.aspx?id=157869

With Pots out there doing 1500 instant heals (at 40),    you'd be daft not to carry some around with you..

Lets admit,   money in this game is stupid..       So this is definitely something worth spending some of that huge fortune on :)

The pots have saved my lives quite a few times, which means I dont miss out on that XP/Renown I would of done by being dead and running back!!

Note:   There are also Pots to increase Toughness, Strength,  you name it..

Warhammer Online / Re: The BSoDs are back in town
« on: November 06, 2008, 09:37:51 AM »
Main cause of BSoD's are either Memory page faults, IRQ conflicts, Software drivers or hardware conflicts.

The former is something you can't defend against,  its because 2 coders for 2 different programs decided to specify the same memory to use and the operating system let them!    This causes a page-fault and pretty much kills the O/S dead.

IRQ conflicts in my opinion are the majority of all problems.    Lets say for "simpleton" that your PC is a building with 15 roads flowing in/out of it.   If 2 pieces of hardware use the same road,  then at some point, there will potentially be a crash!

Going into Control Panel -> System -> Hardware Tab -> Device Manager -> View Menu -> "Resources by Type".

Then expand the IRQ option,  you'll see all your hardware split across the 15-25 or so IRQ's.      If you have 2 pieces of hardware that sound different, but both share the same IRQ then you "potentially" have a problem.

The main ones that cause problems are "Graphics Card", "Sound Card", "Network Card" and any IDE/SATA HD Controllers.

List them here if you want, and I can tell you what they probably are.

Ok so the next option is Software Drivers,    this is basically linked to "Hardware conflicts".

The things to update are

Motherboard Drivers (including any on-board network etc) - People forget this,  but its very important!
Graphics Card Drivers
Sound Card Drivers
Direct-X

The last option was "hardware conflict",    if this is the case then no-matter what you do...   then potentially at any random point you'll have a problem..       I've had a few systems that would constantly crash and I had to replace something to fix it..

These days the hardware faults are more common with cheap-generic hardware.    This is because manufacturers will generally test there hardware against the "popular" hardware choices and will ignore the rest.

I hope this has been some help!

Warhammer Online / Re: Engineer - The life of a suicide-bomber
« on: November 05, 2008, 12:53:07 PM »

In MT (Tier-2) my advice is to take advantage of the fact you can throw Acid-grenades on the move..

Just do this non-stop to everyone,  it really does add up..

Also use "Incendiary shot" on a nice squishy target as soon as it comes off cooldown!

Turrets wise,    at the beginning of MT,  I place the turret opposite the bauble spawn point (near the broken bridge)

After that you need to be slightly suicidal to place it in a forward-position,  before retreating back..

My only other tip is the 100% damage morale ability affects ALL damage, both existing and new for those 7 seconds..     Therefore you're better off throwing your acid-grenades,   then using the morale ability..     I generally then SPAM Blasterbuss constantly until the effect runs out..

Lots of fun, Lots of damage :)
