General Gaming / Free copies of Dogfighter
« on: October 26, 2010, 07:43:14 PM »
Dogfighter is almost free on Steam at the moment, so I bought a fourpack!

If you'd like to have Dogfighter completely free for those bored moments, post below and I'll gift it to you on Steam (3 available).
Think you might need to add me as a friend (I'm somefuckerstolemysteamid) or let me know your id.

I also got Titan Quest + expansion and Poker night at the something something. Titan quest I wanted to try. And poker I want to practice. Four games and three to share for a tenner. Shweet!

Lord of the Rings Online / Guild invite
« on: September 13, 2010, 07:56:37 PM »
Who do I need to harass to get a guild invite? :p
That is possible on F2P/welcome back, right?

64
Is there any sense in getting either before F2P hits us?

Do you see any advantages at this stage? I can imagine the F2P purchasable features from Moria for instance, would cost more in the LOTRO store than a cheap copy at the games store?

Just wondering!

Warhammer Online / Recovering characters?
« on: August 30, 2010, 08:22:07 PM »
Ok... so thanks to Kurtt <3 I finally got the free account thing going.

But apparently I had a master account that they added _EUR to.
I had to make a gaming account to download the free trial. So I did.

But all my old characters are on my master account. Is there any way to play them in the endless trial? Or does that require a resub?

And which servers are we free trialling on with order and destruction? Kurtt told me, but all my old characters seem to be on exactly the opposite server Order/Destro wise.

General Gaming / So many games, so little time
« on: August 18, 2010, 03:37:23 PM »
So what's hot and what's not in gaming/HoJ land?

I'm looking forward to doing some single and multiplayer Blood Bowl and exploring Natural Selection 2 Alpha (http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/). If I understand correctly LOTR Online will be free to play to some extent? I'll definitely give that a whirl.

Any other games that are free (or close to it) and worth trying? Eve/WoW not included. Some stuff on Steam perhaps?

The Dog & Duck / A trip down Games Workshop lane
« on: December 27, 2009, 08:44:43 PM »
After many, many, many, many years of not painting or assembling my miniatures and lots of neglect, I decided to start selling off my GW stuff. Starting with my Eldar BFG a while ago. Today I took a big suitcase full of GW stuff home from my parents' attic. Oh the joy of travelling by public transport for three hours with 3 suitcases, a bag and an army case! I'm making another trip in two weeks time.

But damn, it's hard to sell the stuff when you start taking out your Dwarfs out of your army case! All the hopes and dreams I had for the little guys came back right away. Luckily a firm punch on the arm from the gf (it hurt, like seriously) fixed that problem.

I'll be taking pictures and slapping them online soon. Just in case there are any interested GW nuts around, this is a rough indication of the stuff I found:

Dwarfs: 40-60 old plastic warriors, 64 new plastic warriors, 32 new plastic thunderers, 30-35 metal ironbreakers, 20-25 metal miners, 10 classic metal bolt throwers, 1 classic stone thrower, 16 plastic warriors gone crossbowmen, loads of metal heroes, lords, special edition standard bearer (2nd version) from army deal, Bugman (from Notts), etc, etc. Should have 12 or so Longbeards somewhere as well. And a classic gyrocopter or two.

Halflings: A unit of Lumpin Croop's, several classic halfling models.

Blood Bowl: box set, halfling team, should have some humies somewhere.

Eldar: converted plastic wave serpent, 2ish Falcons, 1ish Prism tank, loads of classic rangers (it's an Alaitoc force), 10-15 new rangers, 3 or so new plastic walkers, a heavie platform, various Seer models, one or two wraithlords.

Black Templars: various Forgeworld items like BT terminator shields, BT brass symbol and icon sheet, purity seals and flat skulls. A unit of new plastic marines, might be command squad ones. Various metal figurines, original Emp Champ, 2nd version Emp Champ.

Khemri: I reckon there's two scorpions, an altar of souls or whatever it's called, and all the units from a small battleset box of Khemri.

I also found two sets of templates (flame, small blast, big blast), the crashed space ship and alien scenery from the 40k starter set and the old Wind of Magic box which is in good condition. The book cover has a crease in it, but the cards are mint. I'll also have an empty army case left. Some tools like clippers and a cutting mat. I also have piles of White Dwarf Magazine, quite a few Army Book and Codexes and a rather good quality copy of the original Stone and Steel, Dwarf RPG and fluff book.

Best thing is, apart from some dwarf bolt throwers and old plastic warriors, everything is mostly unassembled, unpainted, new on sprue, new in blister, etc.

In case anyone is interested, let me know here and I'll post a link to the website I'll be posting the pics on in a little while. I'm going to try and sell them off through friends, family and online buddies first, before I move to sites like Ebay and stuff.

I'm thinking of aiming for 70-80% of store prices for the stuff that is either new in blister or new on sprue. Do you reckon that's reasonable or am I shooting myself in the foot? So I'd sell new Dwarf warriors on sprue for 20 euros instead of the 30 they go for in the store. Or would you sell them for 25 or something?

If you are or if you know someone who's looking to start or expand their Dwarf non gunpowder, Eldar Alaitoc. Khemri army or a Halfling blood bowl team, give them a heads up! I'll be busy taking pics and uploading in January. I'm unemployed after the 11th anyway, so I'll have something to keep me busy.  :D :'(

PS: that's not the reason I'm selling the GW minis. I just decided to get rid of some stuff in my life! :P

Any and all tips for selling are welcome!

So let's have it. For all those sceptics... or those of us who are stuck in a train for two hours.

What do you think. Is Elv right? Is it craptastic? Or will this entertain you for a good while? And is the 150 euro lifetime sub worth it?

Entertain meh!

The Dog & Duck / Outgeeked. Twice.
« on: August 07, 2009, 04:53:22 PM »
My girlfriend now has both a desktop pc and brand new laptop that are faster than my poor old laptop. So much hate.

I'm afraid the geek police will revoke my license soon. :(

The Dog & Duck / PHP wiz wanted
« on: June 26, 2009, 01:49:23 PM »
Alrighty... so I'm starting a new website based on Wordpress. I'm also using Thesis theme, which is a theme/framework for Wordpress that allows you to do a lot of neat stuff.

I'm trying to use this piece of code to replace the standard Blog Title and Blog Tagline text with a header image:

Code: [Select]
/* Custom Header Image */
function add_header_image () {
echo "<a href=\"http://www.yourblogurl.com/\" title=\"Your Blog Title\">
<img src=\"THE-URL-OF-YOUR-LOGO-GOES-HERE\" alt=\"Your Blog Title\" height=\"170\" width=\"528\" style=\"border:0px\" />
</a>";
}
add_action('thesis_hook_after_title', 'add_header_image');

When I add it to the php file it needs to go in to work... it works!
Quite literally, it works as long as I use the code as it's presented with fake urls and text.

But as soon as I change the 'Your Blog Title' or 'www.myactualwebsite.nl', it breaks and it gives me the following error:
parse error, unexpected T VARIABLE, expecting ',' or ';'

This happens on the line containing 'echo'. I've tried again and again being careful not to touch the syntax that shouldn't be changed, but I haven't been able to pull it off.

I've done some searching and found some examples of this kind of code going wrong and a full stop or something missing or being in the wrong place. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with PHP at all. I'm hoping someone here is!

Is it a bad piece of code to begin with?

General Gaming / Plants vs Zombies
« on: June 01, 2009, 06:53:52 PM »
www.plantsvszombies.com

Including Bob sled team zombies.
It's crazy silly.

Play teh demo. Beware, the free demo cuts you off mid-mission after you've played like 10 of them. Tad cruel. But quite effective. I was going 'What, noooo!' at my screen.

Available through Steam for € 19,95 or at that world famous bay.

PS: Michael Jackson zombie sucks. :(
As do the scuba zombies. And the Football zombies.

I'm hooked.

The Dog & Duck / New pc time...
« on: April 30, 2009, 11:29:42 AM »
Hi,

I have good reason to believe my 4 year old laptop is about to keel over during the next few weeks. A vertical row of dead pixels popped up on my screen last night. Last time this happened it quickly spread until I was stuck with multiple dead rows of pixels in the middle of the screen. Luckily back then it was still under warranty and I got some great service from Toshiba. Now, there's no warranty and the thing is old and slow. Even though dead rows of pixels don't mean the laptop is really dead, it's a pain in the ass to look at for longer than 5 minutes. I think it's time to get a new pc.

Problem is, I have no idea what today's standards are anymore.
And tempting as it is to go overboard... I need to keep it modest to some degree. But you still want to get the best value for your money, right. Always a toughie.

- I want a proper pc, not a laptop.
- Assembling it myself isn't a problem. I just don't know which types and brands work together these days.
- I need to be able to run Photoshop without crumbling. I'm not doing any heavy professional stuff, but it just needs to run smoothly for web graphics purposes.
- I'd like to be able to run games like WoW, WAR, Eve, Blood Bowl, etc on good settings. I've been looking at shit graphics for ages now. Even though I'm not much of a gamer anymore, I'd just like to have something that fits the bill again. Doesn't need to be ultra new top of the line.
- It needs to be relatively quiet and still stay cool. I have the Antec P180 case at work and like it. I'm willing to spend the € 110 that the P180 costs at the moment. As far as I'm aware its heat distribution is quite good.
- At the moment I don't see the point in getting a tiny monitor to save money. It'd also be shit for Photoshop and general stuff.
A 22 inch Acer 5ms 1980x1080 for € 140 is what I'm looking at.

I have my keyboard, mouse, speakers, etc sorted.

So I guess I'm basically looking for advice on:

• Motherboard - no clue.
• Processor(s) - how many, brand, no clue.
• Memory - how much, brand, etc.
• Videocard - brand, memory, no clue.
• Harddrive 1x, as my boot drive and selected program drive. So doesn't have to be ginormous.
I have an external drive right now that I want to stick in as my second drive for storage purposes and games.
• Power supply
• Standard DVD something drive. Burning DVD's would be good, but not a necessity. Haven't done it in ages.
• Memory card reader for SD cards and such.

Any tips?
I'm considering standard systems from places like Dell and regular stores... but I'm not sure.

WHELP! >_<

Just wanted to say thanks for posting the new message on the front page about the Orange Box sale.
For some reason my old Limited Edition copy of HL2 didn't want to work for me anymore, so now I have it again. Rawr!

That's all.

Oh, and I hope everyone is doing well. ;D
