wouldnt be surprised if 'normal' play will get more expensive through this system
-
Seems the points and store stuff isnt that necessary to fully enjoy the game (when you were a founder and lifetimer like me, garry, keggi and others :D), which I like. (I scoured the FAQ to find this).
I do feel for those who'll join as neither vip or premium as they get very limited unless they pay... So yeah Saf, you may have a point.
-
im a founder with lifetime sub and have had my money's worth out of it and it was fun and i think they have realized that they took a wrong turn with it somewhere.
and lost a hell of a lot of the player base it turned into one of those korean grind fests for me.

oooooooooooooooooo:
I'm an existing Lifetime subscriber to The Lord of the Rings Online. Will I receive any Points for being an existing Lifetime subscription customer?
(Last updated: 04-06-2010 01:26:03)
Existing Lifetime subscribers to LOTRO will start accruing monthly Points from the 3rd June, 2010 at 500 Points per month.
I have a lifetime subscription to LOTRO. What will Free-to-Play mean for me?
(Last updated: 04-06-2010 01:10:00)
As a lifetime subscriber to LOTRO, you will keep all of your membership privileges and are automatically upgraded to VIP status. You will receive 500 Free Points every month like the other VIPs, but you do not have to pay a monthly fee since you are a lifetime member. All you have to do is keep playing the game and visit the LOTRO Store to spend your free Points. In addition to qualifying for the same rewards as standard subscribers, Lifetime members may also qualify for a special one-time Loyalty Reward of 1,000 Points.

I had more than my moneys worth, and havnt logged in in an age as in my mind the legendary item system sounded good but was implemented shoddily and is indeed a Korean grindfest. Shame as the dungeons are high quality but with 0 need to run them due to drops being not any better than crafted/random drops etc.
Skirmish system though fun for a while is another grind fest.
DDO has improved a LOT since they did this so lets see what it does to LOTRO. Pity they dont have the Drow cash cow that DDO has :)

yup so in teh Autumn when they do this we will have shedloads of points :)
-
Just another thought if they do it like DDO doing your deeds will earn some points so you can buy some addons, more bags, remove gold limit etc
-
Read on another forum that you may have to log in once a month to get the 500 points lifetimers get free.
-
I took advantage of the current offer to purchase lifetime sub for 110 euros (wish I could have payed that in pounds instead, but... 70 =/= 110 euros :( ). One might ask where the sanity for that is in a game that is going free to play, but I think it will be worth it.

It will be in the long term, more benefits really. Accrue points every month - and those points can then be used when future expacs come out, saving you money.
:)

Was just online, and chatting in GlobalLFF and there was mention - presumably now that the F2P beta is doing the rounds in the US at least - that Annuminas, helegrod and other older content will be built into a group scaling system - similar to how DDO and the skirmishes in lotro work.
If they pull it off right, then it sounds like it could be a Good Thing. (Yes Im not complaining about something).

Im confused (although thats a given I know). So regular subscribers NOW count as what going forward? as if its Premium then they are fucked on what content packs they get? And premium folks who join after f2p happens basically get the shaft on content?
As if so then surely they are just going to be better off going lifetime?

Yeah, its a "I have to return after this" point for me too - at least they arent changing their levels and making things too easier (anymore than already done but thats my broken record), just scaling instead, which is much nicer.

My query 2 posts up, answered same place I found that image by someone in the f2p beta:
It is actually a lot better then that.
What I understand is that they are closing off Quest-series/NPCs for non-payers but not the actual areas. As that list sais, world access is entirely free. Also all the Book instances are free(Epic Story) which is a large chunk of very good content.
So as a FTP you run out of quests at around level 20, but no one will stop you from simply grinding on mobs untill you are level 50, and/or exploring all the lands. Note that the level cap is also 50 for each tier, and that it is not stated anywhere that you can not train your skills any further after a certain level. So basically they are just witholding further Quests from you, and certain perks. But levels, areas and abilities all seem to be available (at least untill level 50 after which you have to purchase Mines of Moria for more). Just as crafting and hobbies are all available.
If you do not care much for grinding Quests or PvP you are pretty much golden. The Auctionhouse sucks anyway(for which you are restricted as a ftp), and who knows we will see some "EC-tunnel" type trading develop again when FTP folk want to trade their stuff!
I think it is a pretty good package to be honest. I have played FTP games where you already run into serious blocks after like 3 hours of play(Wizard 101 for example, or Free Realms where pretty much 80% of the items require payment if you want to wear/use them).
-
The way i read it was if you are a box owner That counts as you purchasing all the relevant adventure packs, so capped at 50 with everything we had available at release plus whatever was added before MoM. To get Moria and 60 cap , legendary items you need to buy Moria (if you already own it you get that when FTP) again if you purchased Mirkwood you get that and 65 cap when FTP. Basically if you play now, you wont lose anything you can currently do, The restrictions are for FTP people who start when that goes live.

Massively have done an article or two on the autumn releases:

Good reading there.

Nothing surprising with the point shop screenies.
The thing exciting me the most is instance scaling, if done properly will be awesome.
Means that although i detest Helegrod, if im bored i can try and finally get more of the quests in there done.
3-man rift anyone :) hehe

Instance Scaling Part 2: Rewards & Quality
Hey everybody. This is Joe “jwbarry” and in this, the second in a series of Dev Diaries about our new Scaling Instance systems, I’m going to be talking about the structure of the rewards system, what you can get from playing Scaling Instances, stat tracking, and the quality bar.
Rewards
Adding scaling to instances presents some tricky reward problems. The way we commonly itemize instances is with a collection of items that are the level of the instance. These items will drop off of the boss or through barter systems. While no “new” instances are part of the Classic system, the full matrix of levels and instances would require us to make a prohibitive number of items. For example, the Great Barrow scales from level 20 to 65. That’s a tremendous range of levels for unique loot to design and create and a very painful amount of setup within the dungeon space to get the correct loot dropping. We struggled with this question, and once again looked to the Skirmish system for the answer.
The Skirmish reward system is based on three categories of tokens or currencies. Skirmish Marks are the totally liquid currency that roughly represents time spent playing Skirmishes. The level band tokens represent the level you’ve played at, and campaign tokens are the specific Skirmishes you have been in. Between these three currencies, we decide where to place rewards so players can work towards the rewards that are appropriate for their level. We decided this structure would work great for Classic instances. So, instead of implementing the same reward system twice, Classic instances will use the Skirmish reward system with some modifications and additions.
What does this all mean in plain English? Classic instances will use the Skirmish reward system. All normal item drops from monsters and bosses have been replaced by Skirmish marks. Any spaces, like Annúminas or Helegrod, that had barter systems in place have had their item drops and barter NPCs removed. However, have no fear – many of the unique items that could be acquired from all instances have been added to a new Skirmish camp vendor: the Classic vendor. New unique tokens are also awarded for Classic quests and Challenge mode. In addition, we’ve put Legendary Item jackpots on end bosses, and even small chances to drop Tomes that permanently increase your character’s base stats!
To sum up, Classic instances will give you everything they did before, except now they share a unified reward system. Instances that do not yet level-scale have had no change to their loot. They will still drop items just as they do now and they don’t drop any Skirmish Marks. Once a space is upgraded to level-scale, it will have its loot structure adjusted. With that background and overview done, we can tease some more details!
* “Trash” monsters will all have low chances of dropping various tokens. Since Classic instances have no Lieutenants, we wanted to have “sparkly” moments during play.
* A new token (much like the old Fourth Mark) is being added for the Challenge modes. These tokens will allow access to 2nd Age components!
* Level 65 versions of the Annúminas and Helegrod sets with updated art and Radiance! It is important to note that while you can barter for Radiance armour from these instances, they do not require Radiance to play them.
* A new level 30 set for the Great Barrow.
* Various new cosmetic rewards added for all instances.
* Cosmetic versions of the Annúminas and Helegrod sets.
* And more!
-
Sounds nice to me :) Perhaps the skirmish vendor items will be competetive with crafted gear and quest rewards from now on, the only thing from skirmish vendos I've found useful (for my leveling toons, that is, dunno how good the skirmish stuff is at 65) have been some of the jewellery (with armour and weapons being definitively second rate to quest rewards and crafted items).

Looking forward to Lotro going free to play if I'm honest. Free MMO's is good, imho.
-
anything that makes it worthwhile to do the awesome dungeons is good. The fact that they will scale as you level is frikkin sweet and if they are using the skirmish system will mean you should be able to do most solo, duo, trio, full group, and raid. With place slike the rift i imagine maybe missing out the 1,2,3, option. The ability to get radiance gear from the skirmish system is good, and the ability for bosses to drop 2nd age stuff and better gear is just cherry. I may learn to love LOTRO again.
-
Im looking forward to free to play too - should be a few more people giving it a go again :)
And the scalable stuff actually isnt making me rage, im liking how it sounds. (And having seen similar in DDO when i try that occasionally I know Turbine have a handle on it).

Helegrod is being changed first.
Into 3 12mans and a 24man (4 sections), not scaled any other way from what I understand from the latest dev blog.
-
helegrod sucks anyways
they could make me give it another go by not making me roll on quest drops, stupid idea that.

You get a choice at some point which you want to play, then the rest are locked. Not sure how you open them up.

did you pay for any playtime or put in a box code? , if you did you are classed as a premium player.

ahh, gogo premium me :)

I'm pretty sure it was mentioned on US forums, but just in passing. Anyway, in current beta food and wound/disease/poison/fear pots (both potions and salves) no longer drop off mobs. Same with normal (white background) armour pieces and weapons.
(Read on the EU boards)
No fair, I actually like vendor trash. Can be profitable - especially when you are playing a heavy class.

WESTWOOD, MA – August 18, 2010 – Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced today that Turbine’s The Lord of the Rings Online™ (LOTRO) will introduce its innovative new pricing model, allowing players to download the game and play for free and purchase expansions, quest packs, items, and account services a la carte from the new LOTRO Store starting September 10, 2010.
so we have an offiscal date

I think i'll get a US f2p account just for lulz - and US forum access (even if it is/could be limited in some ways) :D

Great Barrows changes. *rabble, rabble, rabble, its already easy and none challenging, only fu - record broken*
Hey everybody. This is Joe “jwbarry” and in this, the final entry in our series of Dev Diaries about Scaling Instances, we’ll give details about the upgrades and changes to the Great Barrow, a quick summary, and then a list of everything you can find in the new Instance Join feature.
The Great Barrow Cluster
The Great Barrow, Othrongroth, is the final cluster we’ve upgraded for Volume III Book 2. It was last on the list because it is the lowest level instance in game. It’s a player’s first real introduction to instances and how they work in LOTRO, and the experience could use some love. We were also interested to see how the scaling tech would hold up across such a wide swath of levels. The Great Barrow starts at level 20 while all of the other spaces we’d flipped started at 50. Finally, Othrongroth is a gigantic dungeon and places a heavy load on the server every time a copy of it is created; it was a great opportunity to streamline and thin it down and make it less of a resource hog.
The Great Barrow required a different mindset than the other spaces. While all of the others were cap, or near cap, spaces when they were released, the Great Barrow is the first instance. It needs to be interesting but not overly deadly, challenging but more focused on teaching and introducing new mechanics in a controlled fashion. It also needs to be simple, straightforward, not overly complicated, and not too long. Like Helegrod, the Great Barrow was ripe to be winged into three separate instances, and the story already flowed for that. You have the Maze Wing with the twin brothers and getting the first key. Then there’s the Water Wing with Thadúr the Ravager, a Gaunt-lord, and the second key. Finally, you have the third wing leading to an epic second round showdown with Sambrog. Three twenty to thirty minute wings: perfect bite size chunks for your first instance experience around level 20.
The first challenge came in determining where to draw the lines. The Great Barrow is a massive place, not only serving as a dungeon but with an Epic quest that overlays through and uses a bunch of the space. The decision was made to ensure each wing had as little overlap as possible and as much unique space and ground coverage all its own. The Maze and Water Wings would start just after the anvil room, and Sambrog’s wing would start in the anvil room. The Epic would remain the same.
We also had to deal with rebuilding the way you got access. Since the dungeon was split up, the quest to rebuild the key didn’t make as much sense. Additionally, with Instance Join, we had no ability to know and enforce whether you had actually picked up the quest from the NPC. The solution again came from Helegrod’s example. There is a new deed for the Barrow-downs, completed by defeating the bosses at the end of the Maze and Water Wings. Every person who wishes to play the Sambrog Wing will need this deed completed, but also, just like Helegrod, this is a one-time gate. Once it is completed, you can play the Sambrog instance as many times as you wish as often as you wish.
The Maze Wing
We tackled the Maze Wing first. Overall, the feedback internally on the Great Barrow across the board was that it needed work. It wasn’t overly challenging, which was ok, but it also wasn’t overly interesting. The trash mobs didn’t do anything particularly memorable. With winging it, we’d removed the mini-bosses and turned them into bosses. And there was a lot of concern about how to create a space that was manageable for level 20 players that scaled in such a way as to remain interesting for level 65 players. The first challenge was making the trash more memorable. We looked across the wings at what monsters each featured and tried to get as little overlap as possible. Then we looked to add base level mechanics you don’t see on landscape, but are frequent in later on instances. For the Maze, we targeted hotspots, specifically ones that monsters place on the ground that force you to move around. We added new crawlers that would come up to you and explode, killing themselves and leaving an acid cloud which then deals acid damage to you while you stood within it. We also swapped out all the archer wights for melee wights, saving the archers for Sambrog’s wing. We then tweaked up the split-wights and regular crawlers to be sigs and normals. Also, our World-builders gave the wing a lighting pass, helping to visually distinguish it from the other areas of the instance cluster.
The second part was to add a mini-boss battle. Halfway through the dungeon was a room with ample opportunity to do this. We sealed the exit door and added an elite master wight with a few friends. When he gets to low health, he screams and the room starts to shake. Several seconds later, two giant crawlers erupt from the ground. The crawlers deal acid damage and feature frontal Area-of-Effect knockbacks so they fling players around the room. When the crawlers reach health thresholds, they call forth regular and exploding crawler adds. Once this mess has been dealt with the path forward opens up. Next, we looked to tackle the issue of how to balance level 20 and level 65 players needing different things. We examined the existing tech and discovered we could alter which skills a monster has available to it at different levels without having to replace the monster. Within the Great Barrow, we’re trying that out to see how it feels. Specifically in the Maze Wing at 65, you’ll see melee wights gain the ability to summon crawlers throughout combat and deal shadow damage instead of common damage, decayed will gain the ability to interrupt inductions, and crawlers now deal exclusively acid damage.
The Water Wing
We next looked at the Water Wing and Thadúr, our first Gaunt-lord. Feedback here focused on the lack of a mini-boss, the boss himself not being overly interesting or challenging, and similar worries about scaling and adjusting difficulty. First, we added a mini-boss fight. It involves limrafn, spreading your party out, and timing. Don’t want to ruin all of the new tricks and challenges. Second, we upgraded the boss battle. We diversified his adds and allow him to stay in combat, but become invulnerable while they are out.
Third, just like the Maze Wing, we upgraded the trash monsters at level 65. This saw the gaunt-men now dealing exclusively shadow damage, the limrafn gaining a cold aura and damage reflect, frost-wights dealing only cold damage, and archer wights gaining the ability to heal.
The Sambrog Wing
Finally, we get to the boss of the Great Barrow, and this time around Tom Bombadil isn’t going to ruin our fun! The major issue in this space was the boss fight; it wasn’t overly interesting or challenging and didn’t teach much about what you need to know for later instances. The space also lacked a mini-boss, and the trash would again need upgrades at level 65.
At the base level, we varied up the monster mix by bringing in some of the exploding crawlers from the Maze Wing. We also gave the fell spirits the ability to channel-heal some of the monsters in the instance.
Level 65 trash upgrades consisted of upgrading the gaunt-men from common damage to shadow and giving them the ability to bring in pets. We gave archers healing abilities and upgraded the fell spirits to give them ranged attacks and hotspot creation. The mini-boss is an encounter inspired by the classic game Gauntlet. Two gaunt-men stand in the center of a large room, summoning undead. So long as each is alive, endless undead will swarm the room and continually respawn. Defeat the gaunt-men, and the path forward opens up for you.
Sambrog saw a lot of work (and rework), as we tried a few things that weren’t quite on the mark, were too time consuming, not overly interesting, or too complex for this level, until we finally settled on something solid. He begins the fight and instantly darkens the entire room. Once he’s down some health, he summons heavy damaging hotspots at his feet for moderate periods of time. Further down in health, he will begin bringing in fell spirits that will channel heal him. The two primary teaching lessons here: know when to move and know when to switch targets and gank the healer.
That’s a pretty simple fight for a level 65 boss, so we ramp the intensity with the challenge mode, doing our third fight where the composition of what’s going on changes when Challenge is activated. This time around, you use a crypt just before engaging in battle. From there on out, starting at 15 seconds and every 30 seconds after that, pairs of adds will enter the fight. These adds will continuously respawn until Sambrog is defeated and can consist of anything you’ve seen in the cluster leading up to this fight. Additionally, when Sambrog hits his health thresholds, he summons in groups of fell spirits that begin channel healing him instantly. Should make for a pretty chaotic scene!
In Summary
As you can hopefully see, there’s a lot to this initial offering, and we’ve focused not just on making the instances we’ve upgraded scale and be more accessible, but to improve the quality and game experience within each instance to match our expectations of what we’re capable of today. As time goes on, we’ll continue to march through the game and upgrade more instances, in addition to building entirely new clusters and spaces. For now, we hope you’ll all enjoy these 12 upgraded re-released spaces!

Changes added in recently:
More character slots:
5 base (VIP)
2 Moria
10 purchasable
---
17 Total.
Keep in mind that if you purchased the adventurer's pack, those 2 slots count against the 10 you can purchase. So you would have this breakdown
5 Base (VIP)
2 Moria
2 Adventurer's pack
8 Purchasable
----
17 Total
You can mix and match as you wish with F2P and Premium options, but the end result is a cap at 17 characters per account per server.
Official Discussion: F2P Head start - Page 11 - The Lord of the Rings Online™ Forums (http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?&postid=4911738#post4911738)
And secondly Free account will now get 2 character slots
Quote:
We snuck that one in. Much like we're sneaking in the change to allow F2P players to have 2 slots instead of just 1. (Premium and VIP will be unchanged)
Umm...oops.

How to level up in F2P
(http://handsofjustice.co.uk/forum/gallery/2_24_08_10_12_09_52.jpg)
i noticed from this the Bree rep dungeon (Huadh Iarchith) seems to be downlevelled to 20 from 50 :( , although that may mean i can actually finish the deeds in there, Even lvl 50 EM with adds are damn hard to solo at 65 :)
-
Nice table there. Answers alot of the questions I had about F2P which ive been seeing in /advice and globallff in game.

so be ready for slow DL speeds on Tues with almost 1G to get to everyone.

I'll grab it by torrent tuesday evening and have it 10minutes later then :)
*IIRC either CM or useful community types there sort torrents out so yay :D
Much easier that way.
Thanks for posting this btw, totally didnt see this earlier.

Pax news
highlights:
DirectX11
Crisper graphics, water ripples, better looking armour (with battle scars even).
Month of... returning
As result of the community feedback threads Turbine and Codies created, the class months will return to add more polish. Next up are Lore-masters and Rune-keepers. [bring on Captains so they can fix our DPS again]
(pet cosmetics tied to skills, not necklaces? would be grand.)
Legendary weapons will see a work over in the, not too far, future. Less grind, less lottery, more customization. Possibility of Cosmetic weapons.
More voice overs
So far over 40 actors were hired to add more voice.
Rift revamp up next
Turbine plans to make one "multi-winged" version and a "long hard slog" one. [anything that can get the best raid ever used by more people is good]
New classes?
No comment! But hints that Turbine is always keeping an eye on which roles are under represented.
Server additions
are based on the interest the F2P move generated. In comparison to DDO it was two and a half to three times that, with over 100k players in the beta.

I really truly need to get an upgrade for my computer soon. Still using an XP machine (and thus DX9 gfx), the screenies of the DX11 stuff looks droolingly good...

Been thinking about this.
Its US side only isnt it?
As their servers are down today to sort stuff for the US early start tomorrow.
CM being stupid eurofags, havent actually said anything about early start or a prepatch (ive been looking all over the horrible horrible horrible codies forums all afternoon...)
-
yup CM went silent and havent answered any questions so as you see on there forum the anger is rising.
Although if they are withholding release to sort some of the issues with it it wouldnt be the first time, although they really ahould learn to communicate better.
-
best quote evr from recent dev chat
We took Radiance outside, tied it up to some railroad tracks, and...well...I think you saw the end of this in Red Dead Redemption. Look for this in the future - we will be removing Radiance from LOTRO.
....and there was much rejoicing. Seriously happy that that shit is going :)
-
well laucher has a message on it saying it has been delayed so no 10th of september release for europe.

yup as usual Turbine deliver and release buggy patch, CM have always had the guts to delay release of patches until they are sorted, pity they are shit at keeping the community informed.

The US forums are now hideous. But still better than Codies.
That is all.

Hi folks,
Following our announcement on Wednesday regarding the delay of Free-to-Play in Europe, we can now provide you with a further update as to its status. It’s not good news I’m afraid. We are currently anticipating a delay of more than a week, potentially launching around the end of the month, and are still not in a position where we are able to confirm an exact date.
As you know, we were tracking a launch date of 10th September and up until recently thought this was still achievable; however, due to some major obstacles this date is simply not possible. Many of you have asked for a detailed explanation as to why this has come to be and why there wasn’t very much notice of the delay. Regarding the implementation challenges we talked about, the good news is that our Store and new servers are just about ready to roll, barring some final, live stress testing that needs to be performed.
We understand this is disappointing for you, more so because of our lack of communication in the earlier part of the week coupled with the last minute bad news. As the situation was changing literally from hour to hour, we weren’t in a position to tell you anything with any stability to it.
As we work to bring Free-to-Play to launch here, all eligible players will still continue to accrue loyalty rewards as per the rewards table on the website. We’re also laying on a bunch of your favourite live events on all servers starting next week and we’re introducing a community competition to allow you to take out your frustration on us and win some great prizes in doing so. We know this won’t substitute for the new Store and Enedwaith, but maybe it will make things a little more fun for you as you wait. Look out for announcements on all of these things within the next few days.
As always, thanks for your support and patience and a particular thank you to all of you who took the time to send us personal messages, those were awesome and really appreciated!

Erm, I can login and play on Snowbourne and I don't have a sub...
they activated welcome back week as consolation of delay ;)
-
It's hard to be the one to bring those messages, especially when you can't do anything about it. Obviously it's a late announcement, but the message itself is quite nicely done in my opinion.
Unlike the people behind Blood Bowl that kept blaming players for not being able to play online in the beginning instead of saying they coded a piece of crap.
-
http://lotro.mmorsel.com/p/tpfinder.html
Nice site that has loads of lotro related stuff on board, including this tool/guide to TP :)
-
Im so glad CM delayed release, Turbines servers are screwed big style, laggy as fook, 70% data loss, queues for login due to them downgrading numbers due to above issues, seems its spreading to the established DDO servers as well :)
WTF have they done?
-
Queues for logins on some servers is apparently due to the 000's of euros trying out F2p US side (ie people who dont read the abhorrent codies pos forums).
Also I wonder how much of the server stuff is them underestimating how many people will want to play it f2p - after all its a big name as far as licenses go.
Then ofc the whole store thing is just nuts - i have read around the way that the store is 3rd party tech...
-
On Paradox forums somebody mentioned there had yesterday been a queue of over 400 people on the server he is playing on. So there sure has been lots and lots of people joining the game during the weekend.
My son took advantage of his LOTRO account with the "welcome back" offer. Remains to be seen how long he will stay interested in LOTRO this time, at least he hasn't played WoW since last spring or something.
-
not really F2P info butttt.......
Today we celebrate the birthdays of two most esteemed hobbits. Don't forget to go and see Frodo as he has a special quest that is only available today.

My dwarf minstrel has been warped to Breeland by the magic beer barrel in the guild house. That's about as close as I ever got to any hobbits. I have no idea what a Homely Hoopladoo is. :P

He means Rivendell.
Im sure he has a character able to port you there if the quest is for all, and not just the usual dev cop out for high levels only ;)

See... what's wrong with 'Elrond's place'. Tolkien should have stuck with that! ;D

or am I being optimistic here?

So when is this thing going F2P in Europe?
-
So when is this thing going F2P in Europe?
Once the "problems" that CM are having are gone.
As they are unwilling to say exactly what these issues are im thinking the legal men are involved between CM and Warner Brothers (who now own Turbine).
so its a SOONtm
-
Dear players,
My name is David Solari and I’m the General Manager of Codemasters Online.
I'd like to give you some explanation (as far as I can), as to why the Free-to-Play service for LOTRO in Europe has been delayed.
As many of you correctly surmised, the issues have been contractual rather than technical. As they were contractual issues, we are bound by confidentiality and you will understand that I can’t give you any further detail.
This is the reason why we have been unable to provide you with any substantial information as to when we will go Free-to-Play, despite the desire to share this with you.
Unfortunately a contract was required in order to go Free-to-Play and this has taken much longer to conclude than expected.
The good news is that the contractual issues have been resolved and we are on the home stretch.
I can’t give an exact date at this time as there is still some preparatory work to do, but rest assured everyone involved is giving 100% to bring Free-to-Play to Europe, and there will be more definitive information hopefully later this week.
We can confirm the launch is imminent and we should be able to announce the dates later this week/early next week.
I understand the lack of information has been frustrating for you and for that I can only offer my deepest and most sincere apologies. It has been a very difficult time for all parties involved and we hope to draw a line under this and move forward to bring you Free-to-Play as soon as possible.
We are nearly there and can only thank you for your patience and continued support.

finally confirmation that its legal niceties holding it back so heres to SOONtm
-
Aye does look that way.
Contractual stuff has to be related to them needing to renegotiate with Turbine set for 2011, but with WB's acquisition of Turbine this changed all that - and US side contract law is always a fun thing, given half of it is on a state by state basis.
-

Was glad they made the movies
Movies were ok but if frodo and sam did any more crying and moaning in the 2nd and 3rd parts i'd have gone and hunted them down myself. bloody pansies ruined it for me. Still on my DVD player ive got it set up so it automatically skips those bits when i play it. (intelligent programing FTW) ;D

Can't bake cake. Must lose weight. I've been taking a crap every day since Saturday. Ridiculous.
I want cake now. Damn you.
I also want to be home, installing the preview client and getting mah points.

Dev houses are stupid fuckers thesedays.
Stick up a torrent and let your users do the work is the best way to do it ;)
-
damn so they are going ahead with the ftp then. And i'd managed a whole 6 months without playing by using the 'I really can't justify another game' excuse. Ah well guess i'd best dust off the disk and reload and update it. ::)

indeed they are and as you have had paid time before your account is a premium account which has less restrictions than the FTP account i.e. your a freemium.
-
so is ftp launch smooth? is it feck
forum servers "down"
hash errors in patch "we are aware which file is causing this and will be sorting it"
*golf clap* CM
They should move the servers to Amsterdam.
I have never heard of needing a code to "generate hash" there. :P
-
They handed out extra papers and roach so the hash problem is resolved.
-
Am patching now. One byte at a time 8)

I'll download when theres a torrent - and there will be im sure! Otherwise im gonna cry.
-
Ooh the patcher gave me a nice scare by crashing my computer and making it say

what do you expect? nothing in life is truly free.
Its still better than having monthly subs as when you buy an adventure pack its unlocked that content for all charcters you roll, most other stuff can be gained in game with paitence.
so yes you ar free to PAY :P

Good fun playing a 'sort a' bored' ;) MMO with my e-mates again. Seeing actual chars walking around and doing stuff with them, instead of the little-icons-in-space that EVE is. Maybe that's what will make WIS a good thing in EVE then after all.
Thanks guys, was fun!

-
btw Jon, did you find anything on the forums about the store still being AWOL?
-
Hello there. With this problem you need to make sure your PC's browser is set to allow Google Analytics traffic. Sometimes that site is blocked.

-
If the firewall blocks GA traffic (lolwut?), the tracking script or Google js libraries most likely won't load and if they coded it crap (they designed it crap anyway), that may cause everything else to go tits up as well. Basically stupid programming.
-

http://community.codemasters.com/forum/technical-assistance-forum-737/443088-strange-store-issue.html
Glanced over this lastnight - seems to support garry's findings too - but head was a little too mashed to sense of it at the time :)
Follow the "solution" suggested a few posts down. If memeory serves I had to do similar for people in the past who couldnt get past the launcher on the early vista release of lotro, so poor coding is poor basically.

enough for what?
Windows firewall is a bucket of rusty bolts.
Never used it and never will. ;)
-
Sure ive linked it, but you f2pers can get up to 1470 TP per character:
http://lotro.mmorsel.com/p/tpfinder.html
handy site this for finding out such stuff like that.
-
Sure ive linked it
I'm sure you havent ;)
Cool, I can get 3500 more with the Eriador/MoM access I should have
And should be this for each char, amirite? So x4 or x5 depending on Free/Premium
-
Yes for every character you can do stuff on you can earn all those TP. Its not limited to earning them on 1 character per account ever etc. So just rinse and repeat on each available character you have depending on account type etc
-
I wonder what happens to TP a char has earned once you delete it though. Else you would have an endless amount of TP you can earn.
Kill your darlings etc.
-

From what i reckon - and from the "free" tp tip i posted last weekend - it seems once its earned they dont care were it was from...

Btw, although the description in the LOTRO store seems to say otherwise: Buying a quest-pack for one character, goes for the whole account. This makes it pretty easy to get access to the whole game, esp. when only buying regions 'on sale' and maybe even the expansionpacks. When you do loads of deeds ofc...
