World of Warcraft Classic / Re: Oh hey - its a thing!
« on: August 24, 2019, 04:35:59 PM »
Nice one, it seems like Mirage is the place to be  ;D

I've reserved s??the and have been hanging out in the Blood Inc Discord. It doesn't seem that they're going to run a phpBB forum or a Teamapeak server so I'm not to sure how committed they are to the Classic experience. I suspect that some will be playing at over 20fps.

Hi Kurtt, hope things are good with you.

You'll be diving back in for classic right?

The optimist in me says Summer / Autumn 2018. They developed WoW over a four year period, it shouldn't take two years to republish a finished product.

I don't think that they understand at Blizzard that they are the cause of the decline of WoW and blame outside forces, the same mentality can't understand why anyone would play Classic again. They probably view Classic servers as an expensive PR stunt and will push it out of the door with some lipstick on the pig and will be blown away by the response.

Putting it out when everyone has the arse with Legion would make sense, and it looks like everyone has the arse with Legion now.

Aside: Good to see TotalBiscuit looking so healthy. I had assumed he was dead.

You helping out with the crestfall guys?

I'll see what pics I have around, so many old hdd's/photobuckets etc

Thanks, anything could be of value. Vanilla information can be troublesome because they dumped on the IP with Cataclysm so looking at retail is no use for a lot of stuff.

Yes, I will be helping them soon I think. I'm a programmer by profession and because they have reworked their scripting engine a lot of quests need to be reworked. This effort has been about to start anytime soon for a couple of months now  ;)

Edit: Merry Christmas !

Continuing this topic, if anyone has any screenshots from the Vanilla WoW days, could you upload them somewhere and PM/post me a link.

This is to assist this project http://forums.crestfall-gaming.com/

Thanks.

But you're one serious cease and desist letter away from the private server being shut down like https://en.nostalrius.org/. And losing everything "instantly". Admittedly there's always the risk of a dev pulling the plug on a game and official servers, but most of the time you can see that coming by constant server merges and overall dropping player base.

Everything in life is temporary.

There are reversed engineered servers for a lot of old games. They have various levels of quality but most are worth checking out.

I have to admit that the player-content addition did tempt me to dust off Menstro and go and do bloody battle with evildoers, but I resubbed to Dungeons and Dragons Online instead.
Have you played through many player missions so far? Are they any good?

It certainly seems that way, I liked seeing an outdoor environment in the vid, much nicer than those claustraphobic cubes in CoH. There's crafting in apparently and the skill system seems interesting. The difference in player expectations pre and post WoW I guess accounts for the difference.

I resubbed the other day, most of my characters seem to be on Karak-Norn, is that the right one?

(The lightsabers had power cables.)

Hmm, it would suck going to all the trouble of becoming a Jedi only to be able to fight evil a few metres from a socket.
