The few official videos available

It is according to community rumours/hopes entering beta during the next couple months, but then again, who knows.

Its not eve :)

Ive given up hope for scifi MMO's being like eve, all are starting to seem like wow (I know the market will try emulate the success of its leader but still :D) with missions and consensual pvp and sharded servers (Dont get me started on this vis a vis WAR!).

However, Im a mild trekkie, so I may give this one a chuck, just until I one day become THE RED SHIRT! and die on away missions ;D

Analytics according to Captain Kirk:
http://www.sitelogicmarketing.com/blog/02-analytics-according-to-captain-kirk

I watched Matt Bailey do his 'Analytics according to Captain Kirk' presentation at SES London. It was hilarious.

Watched the game videos that are available. Not impressed. People standing still going PEW PEW does not equal entertainment.

Daikini of the House Goat, the First of His Name, The Unmilked, Queen of the Meadow, The Chickens and the Pigs, Queen of the Field, Nibbler of the Great Grass Sea, Protector of the Wub, Lady Regent of the Seven Barns, Breaker of Fences and Mother of Ducklings.

I vote all former/current druid players become the designated redshirts :D

Anyways, an actual reason for the bump, there was a recent article on the STO website about player progression, and it was followed up by a Q&A.

The short version is that it is EVE style, where you can get any skill you want, and even get all of them, but your combat capabilities are limited by the kind of ship you're flying. The big difference is that you gain skill points by completing missions and killing stuff, instead of ranking up in real time.

I'm afraid to say anything positive about this game because I don't want to jinx it. So all I'll say is that taking a page from EVE is not completely retarded, and eliminating one of EVE's largest barriers to new players is not an act of extreme incompetence.

I've got closed beta access to this due to my CO lifetime sub, so will check it out.

I was once an avid trekkie, but not so much these days. Still, you can take the kid out of Star Trek, but not the Star Trek out the kid. Or something.

*Transforms into a Moonkin and moonfires Mang to death*

Unless it turns out to be an excellent and well polished game I doubt I will be playing STO. Just the combination of the uber Trekkies moaning about "whaaaaah it works different in lore" and NC Softs "Nerf it into the ground and then buff it back up slightly" approach to game balance I cannot see me enjoying the game.  I would be tempted though to roll a character named something like Darth Ferrosol  just to enjoy the nerd rage at getting my star wars in their star trek.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

"Banking was conceived in iniquity and was born in sin. The bankers own the earth. Take it away from them, but leave them the power to create money, and with the flick of the pen they will create enough deposits to buy it back again. However, take away from them the power to create money and all the great fortunes like mine will disappear and they ought to disappear, for this would be a happier and better world to live in. But, if you wish to remain the slaves of bankers and pay the cost of your own slavery, let them continue to create money." Josiah Stamp (Governor Bank of England 1928-41)

You so have to do it now.  Even if you only trial the game eventually, you need to use that name somehow!

STO beta signups start today: http://www.startrekonline.com/

If you've got a Lifetime CO sub, your in, we just don't know when we're in, which is causing quite a bit of amusing fanboi rage over on the CO forums :D
