Its fail because its console focused beyond belief. Especially when you consider that the video game world has been shaped by PC gaming more than anything in the past 15 years,

Even the cross-over to PC titles on it began on the console...

final fantasy 12 higher than 7 epic fail , i love all the FF games but in no way shape nor form is FFXII (or the one that you can play afc (away from console) better than the epic play and story of 7, either the people who voted are dumb or were in there nappies at the time ;)
"Banking was conceived in iniquity and was born in sin. The bankers own the earth. Take it away from them, but leave them the power to create money, and with the flick of the pen they will create enough deposits to buy it back again. However, take away from them the power to create money and all the great fortunes like mine will disappear and they ought to disappear, for this would be a happier and better world to live in. But, if you wish to remain the slaves of bankers and pay the cost of your own slavery, let them continue to create money." Josiah Stamp (Governor Bank of England 1928-41)

as always: tainted by recency (which is no word according to spellingcheck).

Where is pong?
Where is doom?
etc.
'Our lives are not our own. From womb to tomb, we are bound to others. Past and present. And by each crime, and every kindness, we birth our future.'

'We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection.
The mystic chords of memory will swell when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.'

it all depends on how you define 'best game'
if you define it by graphics you'll get a recency bias
if you define it by copies sold you'll get a recency bias
if you define it by impact on the gaming community (which is hard to measure for e.g. 20 yr old games) you'll get a recency bias

these sort of lists suck
couple of years ago Pim Fortuyn(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pim_Fortuyn) was chosen by the public as most influential person in dutch history. Why? because he was shot a (few) year earlier.
I won't bore you with a list of dutch ppl who had more influence than him.

Hmm missing elite, and (any part of the) ultima series  :D

they should have asked real gamers instead of the consolbabies.

LORD HELMET:  I am your father's brother's nephew's cousin's
former roommate.

LONE STARR:  What's that make us?

LORD HELMET:  Absolutely nothing. Which is what you are
about to become. Prepare to die.

And supermariokart #1

WHY

its fun if you have some friends, but not more than fun, not the best ever.

This list is utter rubbish.

LORD HELMET:  I am your father's brother's nephew's cousin's
former roommate.

LONE STARR:  What's that make us?

LORD HELMET:  Absolutely nothing. Which is what you are
about to become. Prepare to die.

For me its listing oblivion but not morrowind grr  >:(   and no BG2 or Fallout double  >:( >:( .
also bethor I have to say frontier was better than elite if not quite as revolutionary
Eve Online: Sybil Tanitha
Eve Online Jennifer Ammant

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Any "best of" game list without Elite, M.U.L.E, Wizards of Wor, Bruce Lee, Adventure, Space Invaders, Silent Hunter and Colonization is not a list worth looking at.
